I know 16 is the more compIete and definiteIy more finished and good game (aIIegedIy) but it stiII feeIs as though it can onIy win against 15 and 13 😔

the thing with turn-based atb is not only was it awful but it got worse from 5-9

out of the ps1 games 7 was the best and it got just worse with 8 and 9

9 is especially bad because of how slow it is

even then I just cannot see any advantage to ATB as a system it was [i]probabIy[/i] innovative at it's time to make RPGs more exciting [/i]but I think the visuaIs handIed that[/i]

somehow, despite 8 considerabIy improving the battIe pacing, 9 just throws it out the window 😭

even the version with speed up is still slow

and the animation lock and long animations in 9 are the reason why it sucks

it also doesn't scale well

haste is less impressive in 9 because atb progress pauses during animations and 9's speed scaling has diminishing returns.

the animations are also the reason why regen is so good

it ticks even during animations and doesn't get paused

the only use haste has is in speedruns if you want to cycle bosses in a certain way
