it would be a middle finger to the fan base is they did kh4 as just a story talking about whats happening while others are doing stuff

Remind didn't advance the story all that much- half of ReMind was a re tread, Limit Cut was 5 mins of cutscenes then secret boss battles and then the secret episode was just a boss fight with mysterious future implications

side stories, misc, character back stories,etc get utilized in the non-numbered KH games

I doubt they would break a 20 year routine for kh4 >_>

exception of the random stuff that falls into the above categories thrown into kh1-3 while the story is advancing

Right I get that but what I'm saying is, KH, minus Melody sure, has always been like "there are no side games" you've seen people in the Fandom get upset when people call them spin offs, surely

side games&spinoffs are different things

Each game either introduces new characters or has important lore information or both

if they wanted to do a story that is just taking place during other games and isn't actually advancing stuff. They wouldnt call it KH4

like kh missing link, its going to give us insight with scala and its story line

they didnt name it kh4. if they were doing a story that takes place during MoM storyline with kairi involving sora. It would mostly be something like KH 0.2 focusing entirely on sora for a small amount of story

we would have gotten like KH 3.8 reconnect or some random name

You don't think they could tell a story set in Quadratum that advances the story? Only cause I think that's what they're gonna do

My analysis is that KH4 will start right after the events of Secret Episode which showed what happened to Sora immediately following his vanishing. Sora will show up in Quadratum in a new version of the cutscene from KH3’s secret ending. Something will render him unconscious, we’ll have our normal trek through Dive to the Heart, and he’ll wake up 7 days later. My personal theory is that we’ll play through that year between his disappearance and Riku arriving in Quad, but it’ll be filled with time skips 358 Days style. Once that year passes, we’ll get into the meat of the game.

they start out doing story taking place during MoM, and then eventually getting into the main game itself

KH4 is already set in Quadratum, and what KH stories also are involved. It will advance the story while we also learn more about it through normal gameplay

depending on what missing link shows us. It could answer a lot of quadratum information as well

The presence of the forest world in the KH4 trailer makes it pretty clear we won’t be spending the whole game in the city
