Well it's weird for a long time they did use Ifrit but the If-reet thing is kinda new.

I mean, it does though, doesn't it? That's going to inform what people do or don't know about something

Like I'm certain most Perona/SMT fans know how to pronounce even half of the monsters names lol

More that people's ignorance of a subject shouldn't be an excuse to do something incorrectly. If anything it should be done correctly

The choice to use Sith in the localization seems like a flub.

People don't know the pronunciation of Cait Sith, so FF7 should do it properly

You're being very aggressive about something people are not consciously doing maliciously lol

I get it, trust me, but you can't get mad at people if they genuinely don't know- they're not bigots or something like that, just uneducated

As for Ifrit, I used to pronounce it Ih friht until the FFXVI trailer and my friend pointed out that the Arabic origins have it as Ih freet.

Where am I being aggressive lol?

I'm not blaming regular people for not knowing something

I'm frustrated at the FF7 Localisers

huh.

okay I guess we're just not pronouncing it correctIy

I'm more than happy to aIways have caIIed him kate sith
but now
I'm not wrong

that itseIf feeIs wrong

Iike how Zidane's name is pronounced "zi-dawn"
I'II stiII caII him "zi-dane" even though it is wrong

I feel the same with Tidus

They tee dus and I hate it

Will always be tide us

I always said Kate Sith so I am happy they are saying that here too

So Matt Mercer is definitely Vincent then

I mean come on

Tidus is water themed

His most iconic sword is water themed

He plays water football

Tide us is the best way for his name to be said

But Teedus aka Teedah directly fits the naming scheme of the game and matches with Yuna's hibiscus themeing- plus its an Okinawan word; its not just about water but also the sun

Like the Cate Sith thing is one thing that's folks not knowing about Gaelic stuff- people who prefer Tye-dus is just cope 😪

Isn't this the same thing hahaha

How would I, a guy from Norway, know about it being an Okinawan word

But that doesn't really matter, just any country not in Japan

If I ever meet them, sure

I just assume everyone does intensive deep dive Ultimania research about these games like I do lol thats just me being a nerd

Also first time I am hearing it's a word from Okinawa

I also call him kate-sith and think it's fine but I hope that they make it in the game that he calls himself ket-shee and that the party is just not being able to pronounce his name correctly.

it would be a funny 4th wall break and less offensive towards its origin

I don't know. I would find it more offensive if the party just doesn't say the name correctly because they don't bother to learn it properly, especially for a main character
