Rebirth is just showing me everything I actually want of a new mainline FF game

Like I can live with action game, whatever that's not an issue

It's just everything surrounding it that just makes it an FF to me

him showing up here as his usual interdimensional traveling self would make it finally make sense why he has a replica buster in 12 lol

The party, the character interactions, the world and how you interact with it

And just be goofy at times, it's okay to do it

Like my favorite moment in FF16 is Clive meeting his uncle for the first time because it lets Clive finally have some fun

nah it was more a respond to player feedback regarding FFXV. FFXV got nitpicked to death and some really nasty comments in JP.

There was a ton of hate that FFXV didn't take its own narrative seriously and that the roadtrip feels completely out of place. That's why they toned down the goofyness in XVI. XV discourse was really really firetrucked up and bad

like really bad

yoshi p: 16 too srs no mini games
nomura: planet is dying, let red ride a chocobo

SE should stop listening to people online and just make their games

don't pander to 4Chan

the moment people saw that FFXV was unfinished they nitpicked everything in the game to death

But FFXV does have issues, it's not just nitpicks

A lot of it is because of the development hell it went through but it absolutely does deserve some flack

the issues it has also doesn't relate to the issues 16 has either imo

they're two separate cases

I do agree that the devs need to focus more on what they want

But they should also listen to the fans

FF16's motto was "let's get non-FF fans into FF" and then they completely neglected the actual FF fans

that's not true

I am not saying FF fans dislike FF16, but they did not develop a lot that makes FF into FF for that game just so they can please everyone

so post FFX fans aren't ff fans?

FF isn't FF7-FF10

sorry but that's bullshit

The lack of RPG mechanics, no party mechanic, the lack of doing anything in the game

That's not what I meant, I mean that they wanted to have this game focus on getting non FF people into this

And then they take away a lot of stuff that makes FF into what it is while doing it

I feel like where it failed to deliver compared to old FF games is the amount of content that older games had in comparison but I don't know if I would call this a FF specific thing. It's more something in general. Party and RPG mechanics I can definitely understand

From a perspective of "yeah the old games had more optional content and some deeper RPG mechanics" I can understand that

yeah I actually feel the same way

I feel like if you strip away the FF name and the references inside it, I would like it a lot more

At least then my expectations is "this is a new IP" compared to what I hope is in a new mainline FF game

Because the stuff it does well is great

And I would even be more forgiving of the open fields or lack or rpg mechanics

thats what they were aimg for with the combat being the main thing

I get what you mean by all the otehr stuff

but they already set the expectation

i agree there needs to be more then just hunts or the trials

but at the same time the way they did the story and gameplay was a huge chab=nge for the series

SE's main issue was that they got completely firetrucked by luminous and crystal tools and never really had time to think about how a modern FF game should look like. I believe it was Kitase or Nomura who mentioned in a recent interview that they couldn't have added all the content to rebirth without having remake as a prior game because it gave them time to figure out how to add all of the content

Hopefully whenever FF17 starts production, they learn from the successes of these games

to me Remake and 16 felt like two testing grounds for Rebirth

FF17 should be a collab effort with CBU3 and Tokyo team

best lore masters with best overworld

and the combat is a HUGE mix of FF16 with FF7

I love lore shit so much. This new feature in Rebirth makes me so happy

there's a voice that tells you lore about enemies

and areas

it's so cool

octopath traveler 2 has a similar feature. you can click square button and the game will give you lore for every npc. for example their age, how they live and their work

it makes the game so immersive

the active time lore in 16 was neat too

I want all the shit that is usually in ultimanias to be in the games

ATL is something I hope more games use in the future
