3DS confirmed to be region locked

Posted

Well guys, here it is. It is officially confirmed that the 3DS is not region free, unlike the PSP is. This has been confirmed by Nintendo

Wait will the English verison of KH3D count as a Japanese video game? Cause if it does I'll be pissed.

Wow I can't believe it thats just wow....

not region free

NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! D:

Well, there's always a way to unlock them.

Nope.

Bit odd. Considering the DS and PSP are region free. Not a big deal though.

yeah, they're taking a step backwards with this.

seriously sucks.

what dumbass would steal a 3DS

I would...if I dared to...cause I don't have enough money to afford a 3DS, plus my mom probably wouldn't let me get one anyway since I already have a NDS lite :C

Maybe but just maybe I'll get one with me and my bro's money and we would share it HAHA

You can thank people who illegally download games for this.

How about we all just wait for it to come out in America? :D Or like, import a Japanese one.

Nah, I'll just buy one instead of importing the Jap version thank you very much^^.

Lol that's quite the epic "no" you posted there Reversal xD.

but sometimes i get games while on holiday. this means when i'm in america, 3DS games i buy would be useless.

Thank me then <3

I felt like being dramatic :3

Eh, I don't really care. I never import games anyway. If I can't understand any of the text or dialog, then whats the point of me even playing? I am happy with waiting for them to be released in America (well, I am not happy that I have to wait, but I would much rather play a game I can understand, than get it earlier).

Stupid, stupid move on Nintendos part, they're basically giving hackers a reason to hack the 3DS. Region locking for retail games is a step back, not a step forward on Nintendos part. And region locking wont solve piracy, if anything it just gives people more reason to modify the 3DS and encourages it. :/

Oh and here's a press release from Nintendo detailing why the 3DS was region locked, I laughed at their reasons.

Nintendo 3DS hardware is available in three versions: Japanese, American and European/Australian. Nintendo has developed different versions of Nintendo 3DS hardware to take into account different languages, age rating requirements and parental control functionality as well as to ensure compliance with local laws in each region. Nintendo 3DS also offers network services specifically tailored for each region.

That never stopped Nintendo before from keeping their handhelds region free.

well, nintendo is being a bit dumb with the 3DS so far...

it better be better than the DS when it comes out
