Is Something Wrong Or Am I Just Gullible?

Posted

Sometimes--it happens on a few different pages, but not every time--when I pull up a webite, suddenly a chart appears. It starts listing off all this "Trojan" stuff, which I'm fairly sure is a virus. It shows a bunch of different ones, and beside them different ratings, like, "Critical" or "High" risk. Then it'll pull up a box and say "From Unknown Publisher", and give me the options to run it, save it, or cancel it.

It's already happened three times, and I freak out. I pulled up the Norton Internet Security thing, made it do the "quick" virus scan, and it pulled up nothing.

So.. am I just gullible or is there a virus in my computer? xD It's brand new, as well.

I wish I could help... But I have a Mac, and they don't get viruses... Dx sorry!

It might be one of those ad's that do that. I don't have too much information, but I usually close out the webpage/click the back button after it pops up every now and then, ususaly on imageshack or whatever.

Interesting. I agree with Ventus. it must be just a pop up. I seriously hate those. if you've seen it a lot, you'll see it again because it's used a lot.
I used to get that from dA. It's just an ad that makes a fake virus scan report and tries to get you to buy "security software" or w/e.

Okay, thanks. I was flipping out. xDD

@Ventus

Yeah, ImageShack was the one it appeared most on.

Would this be a thing where you open a page, it says there is a trojan on the site, and it opens something completely different while it looks like it's scanning your computer, and listing off a bunch of crap that's on your computer that makes you wonder how your computer is even still running?

If so, don't trust it. It's complete crap.

often virus services will exaggerate, to them it's better to think any little thing is a virus than get sued for letting one through. norton's mainstream, trust it.

and if it's like what baylaust said, those ads are virus's in themselves (i should know, it cost me my old computer)

There is a chance of a virus on your computer. I got infected by something almost exactly like that a few weeks ago.

It will basically infiltrate your computer and create copies of itself. Each copy does a different job like sending your personal information to the programmer or deleting all your programs for the lulz.

The first thing you should do is disconnect yourself from the internet. You should be able to do that in Norton.

If the error messages and fake anti-virus reports keep popping up then your computer is infected.

@baylaust

That's the exact one. xD It does it on a few different websites. I don't know much about computers, so it scared the heck out of me.

@koolkingdom

That's good. xD Thanks.

@fredbug

D: uh oh. I'm going to get my dad to check for that, cuz I don't know how. xD

Ok I had the almost same problem on IE That thing popped up on the desktop almost everyday and I had Norton Security>.> Which didn't do anything for it so I went to my settings on IE and blocked all popups but it still came up, So What I had to do was a system Refresh or something I forget what It's called and you go in your settings in controll pannel or something and pick a date to run your computer from and everything you did after that date will be gone. It helped when I had that Also If you want a good antivirus program just use Microsofts Antivirus program, http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/ I have problems with any other antivirus program Norton is crap for me.

dam i dont know what to say to ya

I believe that virus is called Malware. Their usually hard to get out of. I can tell when it is (which almost always is) because it says the message is from the website at the top. >.< It's a huge scam. I got one just for looking for coloring pages!

Malware is just short for malicious software. All viruses fall under the malware category.

She is currently experiencing a Trojan. A virus that enters and operates as something that appears to be a program. Most of the time they are false anti-virus programs. When installed they only add more viruses to your computer and the purchase gives your information to the programmer who sells your information to the highest bidder.

Random anime girl:Yeah,iAD likes his "34 rules" winkwinknudgenudge

I've had something like that happen before, if your security system doesn't confirm it I'm pretty sure it's just a fake, in the sense that if you DO run it, it WILL give you a virus. But don't take my word for it, actually get your info from a better source.

This happens to me all the time, the Virus is trying to trick you into thinking that it's infecting your computer and want's you to run an unknown program to fix it.

Just close the window, it goes away and nothing happens.
