Vocaloids are overated. Tell me why you think that too.

Posted

In this thread, you say why you don't think Vocaloids are as interesting as they seemed before you actually looked at the programs hands-on. If you don't want to spend 200.00 USD, then try UTAU at the UTAU wiki.

Why do I think they are overrated?

They can only work off of files when not changing pitch other than using the different tones and notes. Changing Miku to a whisper is different from changing her "po" or "pi" up one level.

But unless you can read Jappers, then you are up a creek without a paddle or a song because the Vocaloid^2 Engine does not support Unicode. Which means Japanese becomes a U.S. Computer trying to pick what it thinks looks most like the Japanese characters.

"tsu" becomes something like "-C-" if you are lucky. Otherwise random jibberish.Good luck deciphering error messages you can't read.

It is not easy to make a good song and UTAU does not allow song playback while you have your voice. It is your job to sync it to the music by ear. Also, UTAU uses USTs to make it so that any cover is possible. Will it sound more horrible than the vocaloid songs which alter the music a little to make sense?

OH YES. But will you care, hyped up at the thought off downloading your Japanese romaji copies of What I've Done or some other Linkin Park song? No. Author's are usually the worse at finding flaws in their own work.

I guarantee "Meltdown" wasn't made in a day. The work it took to make an downloaded UST sound sound horrid? An hour of effort with probably one 5 minute break somewhere in there if you try fine tuning it.

i'm not reading all of that, but voclaoids are overrated, real singers rule

Yeah, but...Vocaloids are Japanese. Made for Japanese people. To sing in Japanese. I honestly don't know why you expected it to work on a US computer lol. Or why you would want the program to begin with if you don't read Japanese.

Though a lot of the songs are really...awful to say the least, there are a couple that look like the composers really took a long time and put in a lot of effort. See here.

I have listened to a few vocaloids, and I can't say that I like them. The music is alright, but the singing hurts me ears. I am sorry, but those high pitched robotic voices wouldn't sound good in any language, in my opinion. I have never tried the program, and I never plan to, so I can't judge there. Otherwise, I agree, they are overrated.

Um, I don't think that. xDDD

I agree with what DemDem said. It is a Japanese program. I really have no intention of ever using that, though. I just listen to them. xD

I actually made my own Utau, so...meh. xD I do actually alter the covers I've done, so I don't see why they are viewed as so horrible.

I wouldn't use Vocaloid though. Like you said, it's really not worth the money if you don't have the talent. I'll just stick with VCV voicebanks and let the professionals do what they want.

As for individual vocaloids, Miku Hatsune is about the most overrated virtual girl to ever grace the face of the planet.

Miku is overated. 'nuff said.

I like some Vocaloid songs though (Matryoshka ffffffff those crazy lyrics haha <3)

I only half of getting what you mean since I'm blind about the making. But yeah, I've guessed it would be more hellish for non-japan users, if you speak english wouldn't it be better if you bought Luka english? Miku (and Kagamines) had a voice-bank of real japanese girl, which makes it difficult to erase the accent, I suppose. [but maybe that applies to all japanese version]

and cmiiw, but don't you need an append to make whispers? Sure you can't just change tones...

@Ran-sama Miku is overated, Kagamines are not, hahahaha

@Kool real singers sucks nowadays, not all of course, but most of them, vocaloid saves our soul jk

It does take a lot of work and if you can't do it you just can't. Which is why there us sooo much robotic sounds sometimes. I wouldn't try to use a jploid but I actually own Miriam who is an ENGLISH vocaloid. I got her last night and I'm not going to just do covers. Miku is ovverated and has some good songs but she is good fir publicity you know? But I love vocaloid a Lot xD
