I agree, she does have a lame role. But it's HER role. No need to change it.

It might not even be changable at this point because it's so firmly established that she relies on others (namely Sora) for help.

 

It also gives Sora a weakness that the bad guys can use against him.

If they capture Kairi, they can be sure to lure him in, just like what the Organization did.

 

Also, I changed that post with a better reason on why I wouldn't like to see her as a playable character.

She can't summon a keyblade. It has to be given to her.

Besides, it'd be a bad idea to make a Princess of Heart go fight the darkness and Heartless.

 

Also, Roxas wouldn't be playable because he's already had his turn, twice.

The ending made it seem like he really won't be that important to the game.

Thats true. She could be a playable character in KH 3. I reckon there will be seperate stories for each character Sora, Riku, Kairi, Mickey just like in BBS, or maybe it will be like KH3D where you switch between them.

-during kh1

-during days

-during kh2

-maybe at the start of 3d

I think it'd be cool if Kairi was playable, though not as a main character. Honestly, she'd be fun to play as, but what can she do? If they added her into the game she should only be added in a multi-player setting. But that's just me.

I voted Roxas, but he's extremely unlikely.

I think BBSV2 will take place after Birth by Sleep, but before KH1. After all, it's Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Volume Two, not Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep/KH1/KH2/358/2 Days/Coded/Dream Drop Distance Volume Two, or something like that. It's most likely that Aqua and Mickey will be playable, based on the secret ending of the Final Mix.

 

I would, however, like Kairi to have SOME kind of role in the KH series rather then being a damsel-in-distress! (Livin' in the past, eh Nomura?) Even if she doesn't participate in the Mark of Mastery with Sora and Riku, she should at LEAST go with them to the Mysterious Tower to support them, like Ventus! >_< So much potential wasted. It's a cryin' shame...

I reckon it will take place at the same time as all of the other games. The secret ending of BBS shows Aqua talking to a man in the Organization coat (I reckon Ansen the Wise) and he says that Sora has already saved the worlds more than once. So it could take place at the same time as all of them.

Hey how about making Kairi have a summon abilities like Yuna !?
