ObsidianEagle 103 Posted March 7, 2011 today, after Gym when i was getting changed, some guys were being dicks and started spraying me with deo. as soon as they did, my breathing became fast and irregular, and i couldn't cough and could barely talk. nothing hurt, and i have had no past history of any breathing problems but everyone was asking me 'have you got your inhaler' but i don't. i could talk about 30 seconds after it started, but it took a while for my breathing to calm down. so, is there any possiblity i could have asthma? VENROXAS 152 Posted March 7, 2011 Well Have you ever had breathing problems before? Sometimes when to much of something is in the air its hard to breath for a bit, Like say too much air conditinor may make someone have trouble breathing it. If it happens again you should see a doctor just to be safe.
Zexion's_Lover_46 76 Posted March 7, 2011 I really think you have to born with it, at least I was. It may have been just a reaction from the deoderant and maybe people just thought it looked like you had asthma because you were out of breath.

Amon 4,279 Posted March 7, 2011 I believe you are born with it but depending on the environment you are exposed to and the amount of physical activity you do, you may not notice it until a later age. If you never had breathing problems in the past it could be the effect of the chemicals in the deodorant. A lot of sprays mess up your breathing. JesusFreak 41 Posted March 7, 2011 I think you can get asthma at any time in your life. Not just at birth. It can happen to anyone, because some family members have it, or for some other reasons. I found out I had asthma last year, but I don't need to use my inhaler most of the time. A lot of my family members have asthma. My dad, aunt, and all three of my cousins. My mom also had asthma when she was in the hospital two years ago with the whole blood loss thing. Here are some of the symptoms * Frequent coughing spells, which may occur during play, at night, or while laughing or crying * A chronic cough (which may be the only symptom) * Less energy during play * Rapid breathing (intermittently) * Complaint of chest tightness or chest "hurting" * Whistling sound when breathing in or out -- called wheezing. * See-saw motions in the chest from labored breathing. These motions are called retractions. * Shortness of breath, loss of breath * Tightened neck and chest muscles * Feelings of weakness or tiredness It could have just been a allergic reaction. But if you're really worried about it I'd go to the doctor and asked them to see if you have any of the symptoms or go on google and learn more about asthma. ObsidianEagle 103 Posted March 7, 2011 so it sounds like it was just an allergic reaction. which is odd because they sprayed me with the same deo i use... but usually i don't spray it into my face, so that might be why. because i don't cough alot, or any of the symptoms you mentioned

Cricket 1,180 Posted March 7, 2011 You're supposed to contact Poison Control if you swallow deodorant or are exposed to it from breathing, it can be dangerous in large amounts and some people cannot use deodorant because of some of the ingredients listed in it and the amount of ingredients. So yes, you had an allergic reaction of sorts.

As Cricket mentioned, you should probably tell someone. It's not at all healthy to be inhaling that type of thing. It can actually cause cancer, according to some studies, so I'd reccomend doing something about it. There's a good chance you just had a quick allergic reaction, but, yeah, I worry about everything.
