At D23 Expo 2026, during the Disney Entertainment Showcase panel it was announced that an original Kingdom Hearts Anime series is coming to Disney Channel and Disney Plus soon. You can view a teaser image below:

In a press release, it was stated that the show is being developed in partnership with Kingdom Hearts series director Tetsuya Nomura and the team at Square Enix. The series is set to re-imagine the iconic adventure, with a brand new story that sets to expand on the Kingdom Hearts universe.

President of Disney Kids and Family, Ayo Davis also stated:

“Kingdom Hearts has captivated gamers everywhere with its unique blend of adventure and imagination.There’s something really exciting about taking a world fans have spent years exploring through the games and bringing it to life in a completely new way. And with a creative team that is working closely with the legendary Tetsuya Nomura, our new series will be unmistakably Kingdom Hearts, while giving fans a whole new way to experience the world they love.”

Tetsuya Nomura shared a message through the official Kingdom Hearts Japanese account on X regarding the announcement:

"The production of an "Kingdom Hearts" animated series has been confirmed. I imagine you're surprised by this sudden announcement. Some of you may be wondering, "What will it be about?" We can't discuss all the details just yet, but I've been in close discussions with the scenario team, including myself, and when needed, we've also enlisted the art team's cooperation, even creating multiple new character designs specifically for this project. I can't say anything more right now, but the hint is in the single piece of key art that's been revealed. Please let your imaginations run wild while you await further updates."

The way I used to dream for times like this😭😭 could call it a far off memory

Well looks like I'll have to finally subscribe to Disney Plus! This anime looks like it'll be completely different to the one they were going to make years ago. Looking closely at the character shown, that's definitely not Sora as he's too muscular. He's also wearing quite a simple outfit with fur trimming so I think this story will take place in the distant past, possibly even before Union Cross. This guy could even be the Master of Masters when he was younger
