OH NO! Japan was hit by an earthquake and then tsunami earlier today. My thoughts are with the people living in the affected areas (northern Japan). I think they'll be better off than New Zealand because Japanese building are designed to survive earthquakes.

p.s. I hope square enix's buildings weren't destroyed. (as well as all the others)

Update: It's gone up to 8.9 on the Richter scale.

(Funny how no one's thinking about Canada.) Despite all the arguing everyone is doing all I'm worried is the state of Japan. I became interested and fascinated by Japan five years ago and I never realized how much Japan meant to me until I learnt of the earthquake and the tsunami. I have no relatives or friends there however it's not just because of Kingdom Hearts, Tetsuya Nomura or the staff and employees of Square Enix but because I have tons of actors and actresses, voice actors and actresses, singers and mangakas that I like and adore. And it's devastating to think they could die or have died along with many more of the Japanese throughout the country. I dearly hope that they can make a full recovery.

I honestly never saw it coming. And not only that but it levelled at an 8.5 or something and it's killed 1500+ people I heard. I'm still in complete shock with what happened there o.o

it was an 8.9

and i was expecting it, because japan is right on a very big plate margin, that is constantly shifting and causes many mini earthquakes ever year.

if it was a country that wasn't prepared, like USA, there would have been 10s of 1000s more deaths

Will a tsunami or earthquake really hit California? :s

Will a tsunami or earthquake really hit California? :s

of course not, no.

there is a possiblity of a little bit of flooding, but nothing near the extent of the Tsunami

i heard there today in school the guy who created pokemon was killed in the earthquake so Rest in piece to him

The creator of pokemon is not dead it was just a rumor that spread but this earthquake was horrible and the tsunami poor japanese.

Phew, thank god. n_n I thought the stuff happening in Japan will happen in California, I heard. And I feel a bit horrible that Japan is going through this.

I heard on the news earlier that one of the nuclear power plants exploded and theres maybe 2 more that are still unstable but I'm not sure. I really hope I heard wrong, Japan really doesn't need anymore problems right now. :(

Theres news that there is an 6.0 earthquake. Not sure if its true or not. My country had some effect from the tsunami since we are south from japan But it isn't so bad. Thank god most of my friends there are living around osaka.

Ya the 6.0 is true hit them jouring to day but it was actual an after shock not another earthquake but still

Let see, a 9.0 earthquake, tsunami, nuclear radition... I would say "what else could go wrong?" but something else might happen then.

This subject right here has become my geography class instead of maps. Apparently this earthquake changed the size AND location of Japan.

ya land mass now at a lower area and the hole island has sank a bit but a bit with an island is actually alot but still i'm surprised were not hearing about volcanos youd think with all the tectonic plates the center around japan at the least one volcano would of went and erupted

There was a volcano eruption on the sea the day after the tsunami. Hope its not much of a big deal.

owe if its in the see its not that big a deal the water will deal with that by the way did anyone else hear they had a whirlpool in the middle of some fields or something as well not shore if it was some fields but there was a whirlpool theres a vid on youtube on it

A whirlpool in a field? That sounds... odd. (where would the water go...?) I thought is was off the coast, a video showed a boat going into it. Or maybe this is something different.

heres the whirlpool

i just saw it on the news.

and firestorm, it is a very bad, it will be hitting Hawaii, and possibly the eastern coast of the USA

It wasn't just the U.S. The western coast of Canada was affected too.

I'm pretty sure autrialla could of felt the aftershocks to. in osuthren california we felt it a bit. Then agian i don;t about you guys. But old Rue here as familey in japan, ad friendsform my old Hood who moved to japan long ago. good news my familes okay. My heart still gose out to all the others in japan. Whoa re stuck, familes gone, etc. that earthquake & Tsunami must be hell to everyone their.

I'm sorry if I ever joked aroung in this thread but that doesn't make me a "horrible person". But seriously I hope that the U.S. helps Japan in time because it seems like there the best hope for Japan. And there also the 2nd most technollogy advanced country in the world.

its alright you were acting like a total asshole, the important thing was you admitted you were wrong. However even in light of your remorse and since Im in a very good mood I'll try to forgive however it will be a while before the others start forgiving and forgetting

.....I thought you already apoligized :| oh well, I forgave you about a week ago, so nothing's changed for me *returns to derpland* (wait, what's the most technological advanced country then? I thought it was Japan *is now feeling more derpish*)

Has there been any more news on this, I really hope that everyone affected by this is ok

  • 2 weeks later...

well like any of you guys care but my familey form Japan is safe and fine, this earthquak/Tsunami was just, wow, and still trouble is going on. anyone donated money to help out japan? @Spenskh89 yeah i think this would REALLY Slow down KH. some games have been canned. others i don't know what...but i have a feeling its going to be alot more difficult.

The poor Japanese! I feel so bad for them...my family and I had a huge chat about this, since we live on the West coast of Canada, if that reactor goes it sounds like our entire valley will go under, but maybe not.

I just hope they can pull through this, what a crappy thing to have happened to such an amazing culture. And my friend was telling me that, appentally, there are people that think that Japan deserved this. What jerks... I donate whenever I can. :(
