I know a few tips for a good cosplay-

1. Makeup; no matter how manly you are, you MUST WEAR MAKEUP FOR THIS TO WORK!

Our beloved characters are, as you probably have noticed, near-featureless. This can be made up for with alot of makeup (Also it can aid the look of big eyes that are ever-so-popular)

2. Your outfit should look natural- the biggest turnoff is a horrifically made/cheap outfit (A large problem is- the more realistic the outfit, the more it's gonna cost) Always remember that great cosplays will almost always burn huge holes in your wallets.

3. Wigs- Good God wigs.....You want your wig(or hair) to not look like complete and total crap (Spikey-hair is the worst example of this atrocity) If you need help for a spikey-haired wig, please take into consideration that you will ACTUALLY BE WEARING IT.

Good Wig http://www.cosplayshow.com/dress/2011/201104/20110401115004_7_DB85.jpg

Bad Wig http://www.hellocosplay.com/images/kingdom-hearts-ii-cosplay-roxas-wig-2.jpg

KNOWING THE DIFFERENCE MAKES EVERYTHING ALL THE BETTER

4. China has the best cosplay stuff.

Just sayin.....

5. Make sure the accesories aren't a complete eyesore (Yet again, $$$)

And try to make it somewhat related to the character (I.E. Ichigo and his Hollow Mask, Miku and a Leek, Gamzee and a horn, Narancia and a Turtle)

COME ON PEOPLE! USE YOUR IMAGINATIONS TO THINK OF AN INEXPENSIVE ACCESSORY (of course, remember that you'll have to drag it around with you THE ENTIRE EFFING TIME so make it something reasonable)

Tis all I can give you for now, if this is not a heart attack that I'm having as I write this- I'll come back with more tips.

  • Author

okay, I require assistance.

So, working on my Terezi cosplay.

I have the horns, the glasses, going to make the tshirt, buying red converse and already have the pants as well as knowing what I'm going to do for the makeup.

But I need help finding a good wig. I was thinking of maybe purchasing one around my town and then styling it, but I'm afraid that I won't style it correctly and the wig won't look good. So if I can find one on ebay then that'd be great

http://cgi.ebay.com/...=item255f5bc22c

I really like this one and wont be too expensive, the only problem is I have is that I have no idea what the front will look like.

If anyone has any other suggestions for a wig that'd be great <3

This is Terezi by the way:

Now off my own personal cosplay problem, I think I can add on a bit to Platinum's post.

If you want big looking eyes, use white eyeliner on your waterline, or I'd even say get circle lenses ( http://www.mycandyeyes.com/ ), especially if the character you're cosplaying is one of those cutesy type characters.

Also, prior to the event that you’re cosplaying for, take care of your skin. Exfoliate, use moisturizer and such to keep it looking healthy and flawless. Sure makeup can cover up imperfections, but you don’t want to cake on too much either, so take care of your skin so you don’t have to do that.

If you can’t afford or don’t want to order stuff for cosplay, you can always learn to sew and make your own costume. It’s less expensive and though it might not look amazing, it’s a good start.

Now, you should also make sure the character you want to cosplay suits you. If you're going to a convention, a lot of times people like it when characters are in character (either that or very derpy). Also don't choose someone who you can't pull off.

Ah yes, you have a point there- Jojos are the hardest to cosplay as since they look like [[this]]

So I would say to avoid anyone who isn't your body type/shape.

Girls are best at doing effiminate boys; sorry guys but it's true. They can just pull it off SO MUCH BETTER.

Anywho;

That wig is great- all it needs is to be a bit more spiked and you got Terezi~<3

also

the front look's like this

Posted Image

They put it in the description (if you just scroll down on the scroll down description thingy, you can find it! Those tricky bastards.

It has enough hair to where you can separate it into her front-spike thingies

  • Author

i was like 'lolwhere's the front' and kept scrolling and never found it xD Thanks~

So that wig would be perfect, yay C:

And yes if you're a girl and want to cosplay a boy, do more girly looking boys xD unless you're androgynous looking and can pull off a more manly looking guy.

Also, binding, if anyone can find good methods to bind that'd be great. An actual binder shirt would be ideal, but there are other ways

(look at us take over this thread)

MiRaClEs MaKe It HaPpEn

Anywho, yes, I want to do a female version of Jotaro *will send picture later as soon as I can find it again*

AH yes, I forgot that rule- RULE 63 KIDDIES! IT HELPS!

All characters can be genderbent- and trust me, there is ALWAYS gonna be rule 63-ed fanarts that you can refer back to for help.

@Koko; Terezi's hair looks like it would be fairly simple to style. If you wouldn't mind getting it cut (or if your hair is already the same length) you could get it done by a hairdresser. edit;; Or just buy a simple wig, see if you can get that done somewhere.

@thread; I've been working on a Poniko (http://yumenikki.wikia.com/wiki/Poniko) cosplay for the last couple of months. The only problem is that it's kinda difficult to make a good looking outfit based an inch high mound of pixels, lol. I made one a couple of months ago (with a green jacket + black skirt) but it really just turned out to be a complete mess.

I've tried making an Uboa mask for it too. http://uboachan.net/cos/src/1289106226494.jpg

PONIKOOOO

I like the mask alot and I think Poniko could be fairly easy though. I think a pleated beige/brown skirt would be better suited for her imo.

Hmmmm, How about that skirt that Koko talked about, with a green sweater and some brownish-redish boots.

That should work, sweetie!

But yeah, this is my rule 63'd Jotaro that I'm going to cosplay as

that seems like a fun cosplay! 8D

I need ideas for another cosplay.

I got my Terezi cosplay in the works (basically 75% done) and my China cosplay is ready as well. I kind of want to do a TMOHS or Lucky Star character.

BUT WHOOO

China as in Hetalia? KYAAA~ YOUUUU!

I Always wanted to do a Nico singer cosplay;

Like Marina from Love Lost Elegy (Which was originally gumi but *COUGH COUGH COUGH COUGH*yeah.....)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kpo5_MdVXp4

or I would like to try a Narancia one, mostly because when imagining his voice- I imagine my own.

update on my cosplay:

MY WIG IS HERE

i flipped it out as best i could, and i think it's a bit short, but i think it'll do?

I convinced my grandma to take me cosplaying in a week. I'm going to be Ino from Naruto. (I'm wearing her more conservative outift. xD)

Posted Image

I don't wear make-up because, to be honest, I'm scared of putting a mascara brush in my face. xD But I want to try and make my face look as much like hers as possible. So if anyone knows what to use, how to apply it, ect. Thanks. : )

  • Author

You're going to need the basics of course, foundation, powder, etc.

Her makeup won't be too hard. If anything you'll need to just define your eyebrows, a bit of very light colored gloss, eyeliner on your waterline, and maybe a bit of mascara. No blush.

Though that's what I think you should do, but it'd be best if you experiment with the makeup yourself.

If you plan to cosplay at cons, make sure to prepare at least 3 poses before you enter.

;;

I wanted to cosplay ;;

After lots of thinking I have decided to go as Aerith from KH2. :D

Posted Image

I have the boots. I'll be making the clothes with my grandmother and her friend. (They're amazing sewers.) And since I have no way of getting the wig (Not allowed to shop online),I'll be styling my hair (Witch is burnette,like Aerith's 8D) in her hairstyle. I will have to practice with the bangs though...>o<'

  • Author

@Kinode

then why don't you?

@Star

You'll probably have to use strong hairspray and maybe tease your hair a bit for Aerith's bangs. You can probably find some tutorials online. I'll link some later if I find any.

also, update on my terezi cosplay

wig is great, got my glasses, yay.

Hmm someone help me decide should I go as Tsuruko or Cheren this year.

They look similar, since Tsuruko cut her hair short in the anime.

  • Author

I say Tsuruko 83

How could I style my hair like demyx or terra's? My hair is a little past my shoulders, and I don't have bangs or anything...

woop late reply.

sadly, if you try styling your hair like either of them, you will need LOTS of gel and in the end it will look BAD.

get a wig. a good quality one.

  • 4 weeks later...

I hate to bump another old thread, but...

so, even though I've said I'll never go to a con, my friends have convinced me to go to a small one near our town. it doesn't seem too bad, but I'll need to get a small cosplay ready.

I'm thinking of going as Maria from Maria+Holic: http://i697.photobucket.com/albums/vv337/Cruz_Raul/maria-holic.jpg (he's the blonde one on the far right, holding the rosary).

I've already found the top and skirt that I want (http://www.cosplayhouse.com/Maria-Holic-Female-Uniform-Cosplay-Costume-Version-02-Sale.html); the only problem is the wig.

normally, I would just use my regular hair (it's the same color and texture, and the style for the cosplay is pretty simple), but since I got it cut, it's way too short.

tl;dr does anyone know where I can find a good quality, medium-length, blonde wig? (preferably cheap, but I can save up for an expensive one too)
