3 Reasons why CODs days are numbered

Posted

1. Every COD game is the same

This is what I feel is the biggest problem. Nothing fundamentally changes in COD games. Campaign ways the time period is the only thing that changes. It's either the same WWII "ZOMG KILL ALL THE NAZIS/JAPANESE IN THE LEVEL" or for more modern times "ZOMG SPEC OPS MISSION". In multiplayer it is EXACTLY the same. Just better graphics, new maps, new weapons, and modified perks. Each game is more of an expansion pack rather than a new game. COD gets new features sometimes, Nazi Zombies was great, until they added all this ridiculous stuff in black ops and they finally managed to get a hold of theater mode, three years behind all the other games. Finally there is the firetruckING LAG. Anyone who has played COD knows that the lag and host migration issues are beyond believable. I've seen lag so bad that it would literally take me from one side of the map to the other without me touching the controller. Not to mention the glitches. Played MW2 recently? There are literally people flying through the maps. That's right, as if noobtubes weren't enough of a problem now we can have flying noobtubes.

For most companies a new game would consist of the following.

-Original storyline

-Major modification in online gameplay.

-New features

-Significant technical improvements over the last game.

Does COD have any of the following? Not really. If anything at the bare minimum. The story line isn't original, it is either WWII or special ops stuff, the multiplayer is nearly identical, sometimes new stuff is tossed in but it's been done already, and every COD game suffers from the same glitches.

Conclusion: Every COD game is the same, and once more and more people catch on, more and more people will stop buying COD games.

2. Sales rely almost entirely on hype.

Ever wonder why COD advertises more than any other game? Because the creators know that unless they give their games a lot of hype, nobody is going to buy them once the issues are noticed. As a result they spend MILLIONS of dollars trying to make their game look more awesome than it really is and even go as far as paying popular game reviewers such as IGN to give their game a good review. And don't say that they don't. This is clearly obvious because games that suffer the same issues as COD get rated poorly, yet COD gets nearly perfect scores. An odd coincidence is it not?

Other games like Battlefield, Halo, Fallout, Gears of War, and so much more don't nearly advertise as much as COD. Why is this you ask? They don't need to advertise as much! Their games are well designed and well made and practically sell themselves. COD on the other hand wouldn't get a single purchase if there wasn't so much hype for the series.

3. COD games get old really fast

Ever wonder why there is a new COD game every year? It's because unless they don't keep giving the kiddies new toys, they will stop playing with them.

Look at MW2 and Black Ops. When it comes out, when people are still filled with hype, they will praise the game, tell you it's great, some will even go as far as saying that it is the best game ever made.

Flash forward to 6 months later, everyone will tell you the game sucks, and only the most hardcore fanboys will tell you other wise.

As a result, to distract people about the failure of the last game Activision needs to call Treyarch or Infinity Ward to create another game quickly.

I have been playing Black Ops for the last couple of weeks. It was the first shooter I ever bought myself. I really like it, I think the storyline was quite clever and engaging, with almost a Silent Hill/Resident Evil sense to the cutscenes. However after playing multiplayer, I like the system of leveling up, but seriously I agree with you, the lag is staggering. The game is so fricking dependent on connection.

While playing through the campaign I also discovered a few glitches that would not let me progress through the mission. :/

Also about the story, yeah agreed, something original is urgently needed, apparently MW3 will be about terrorist attacks on major cities... not something new.

I've seen the MW2 hacking videos. It looks like fun but it is ruining the experience for the genuine players.

And yeah, CoD is heavily advertised, way more than other games. I see more CoD commercials than any other game. I always noticed the way IGN scored cod games very high, so it was a set up? firetruck sake.

I rememeber when Black Ops released, every guy was hanging outside a video game store at midnight, dying to get their hands on the game. They played the game for weeks, ditching MW2. Eventually getting tired of Black Ops, they ditched that and went back to MW2. And when MW3 drops they will ditch Black Ops again.

I haven't played Call of Duty since the PS2 for the above reasons...

Problem with your theory unfortunately.

Call of Duty has tonnes of fans who have actually been convinced to essentially 'beat' the game 50 times just for... bragging rights? I dunno, that's the only context I've ever heard anybody ever use Prestige in.

Seriously, as long as most of its fans are that easily convinced they're having fun, Call of Duty has a long life ahead of it.

I have never been a big fan of cod series.I just think there's tons better games than them.

Meh, this s why I play Halo, I like the story, and the gameplay is more then just constant headshots. Also the Vehcles are nice

Yes I agree, but I will still be buying MW3 anyway, although I did miss Black Ops, because that one really did SUCK >.>.

But I like COD for the simplicity of it, it is almost arcade and very floaty in feel, and the games are ususally a few minutes long so it is good for quick fixes.

But overall though, games like KillZone, Battlefield etc, do blow COD out of the water, it looks very dated by now as well. But like I said, it is simple and fun still.

Halo is a great game. Unless you have a legitimate reason why you don't like it, don't make funf

Black Ops 2 looks stupid. Why the hell would I buy a game that takes place in the future only to wind up riding horses? COD is so desperate for ideas they are ripping off Red Dead now.

I think the better question is what could of possibly been edited when the post is nearly incomprehensible?

Waiting for Arma 3.

You do know we ride horses now and we have cars and that's apart of the blops2 that's in 1985 and because I was looking back at old posts any way CoD isn't going anywhere anytime soon it has way to large of a fan base and its making strides to be a better game
