About Kingdom Hearts Trailers...

Posted

Apologies if this has been touched upon in the past, I was looking through the first few pages of this board but didn't see any topic that answered my question.

I just watched the new Dream Drop Distance trailer having not played Birth By Sleep, and was a bit annoyed at the end that they casually threw in a little spoiler about Vanitas. I know it's my nobody's fault but mine for not playing Birth By Sleep yet - and I intend to remedy this by the end of the year so that I can be better informed - but has anyone ever felt that maybe the Kingdom Hearts trailers give a bit too much away? An example for me was watching one of the old trailers for 358/2 Days having played the game and seeing that they used footage from one of the last cutscenes in the game. I know it didn't give too much away but if I'd seen it before playing Days, at the back of my head I'd be aware that it hadn't been played yet, so if anything happened that made it look like that cutscene didn't happen, I'd know that it would be resolved and might dull the impact of some events.

Tl;dr - Do you think that Kingdom Hearts trailers show more story elements than they should?

No, because they don´t explain too much about the story. They give some elements but without playing they´d make no sense; In a way you´d not mind or see any major spoilers for that game.

Trailers are supposed to show stuff like that. It gives it hype.

True, in the back of my head I cross off things I've seen in trailers which has ruined things for me before, but I guess that's not everybody :) Just some of the stuff in that trailer looked important, though I guess I was a bit annoyed about the Vanitas thing reminding me how important Birth By Sleep seems to be to the story and I STILL HAVEN'T PLAYED IT YET!! /rant :P

I agree with you, but do the trailers not tend to show story elements from near the start of the game? I was just a bit concerned that if they were willing to put one of the cutscenes from the end of Days in one of their trailers, what's stopping them from doing it in DDD?

To be fair, I realise I am being a bit paranoid, and the first half of the DDD trailer did hype me up for the game, I just think that some of the Kingdom Hearts trailers show story elements a bit too recklessly.

I´m betting they showed some of the CGI secret ending in that trailer.

To be fair they didn't have much footage to show in the 358/2 Days trailers.

More like the Opening.

Yes, of course most of that was the opening, but the prt in the beginning with Xehanort, Mickey,Sora and Riku...I think that´s the secret ending.

Just a thought, of course.

They don't show the secret ending in a trailer. It's supposed to be a secret until DChiuch extracts it.

One of the KH2 FM trailer shows the secret ending.

They actually showed a bit of Re:Coded's secret ending in one of the trailers...

It makes sense what you said before about there not being too many cutscenes to draw upon for the Days trailer, and that can definitely apply to Re:Coded's trailer as well. Here's hoping Dream Drop Distance has enough cinematics that they don't have to take stuff from closer to the end this time! :)

EDIT: Beaten to the punch :P To be fair, the Re:Coded trailer only tells you a certain character features in the game.

I´m betting they showed some of the CGI secret ending in that trailer.

I would be effing P.O. if that were the case.
