Zhanton 1 Posted December 21, 2011 Hello, first off let me say that I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section. New to the site. Anyways, having been a KH fan for a long time, I think it's about time I play a FF game and see what all the hype is about. However, there's like 500 games lol. Which game do you guys think I should play first?
MarluXia777 170 Posted December 21, 2011 What gaming systems do you have? IV, V and VI are my favourites, you should give them a go.
Kelvy 60 Posted December 21, 2011 XII or XIII. The reason I say this is because, in my opinion, the 'perfect' Final Fantasies are IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, and X. XII was a great game, but it just didn't compare to the earlier games IMO. XIII... well I won't get started on that . By playing XII or XIII first, I feel like you would appreciate the older games more. If you played the OMGSUPERFANTASTIC FF VII, and then moved on the XIII... let's just say you might find yourself very disappointed. Have fun!
Spamification1 71 Posted December 21, 2011 It depends on what gaming systems you have. Although I recommend FFX or FF8 if you can.
XxKHFanForLifeXx 12 Posted December 21, 2011 FF7 or FF13 depend what console you have.
Snow 1,800 Posted December 21, 2011 I'll break it down for you. These guys aren't being helpful, eh? PS3/XB360: Final Fantasy XIII [The tale of 6 heroes who are cursed and hated by mankind, but still risk life and limb to save it] PS2: Final Fantasy X [The story of a young boy named Tidus, who is torn from his world, and sent 1000 years into the future, and must learn the secret behind the malevolent force known to Spira(the country he's thrown into) as Sin] Final Fantasy XII [A young man tries to fulfill his dream for becoming a Sky Pirate, and is shocked when he's forced to join a Sky Pirate's crew] PSP: Final Fantasy 7: Crisis Core [i don't remember much to explain, so try google] Final Fantasy Tactics [Old School Final Fantasy Battle System. Don't know much about the story, something about betrayal] GameCube: Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles [Typical Fantasy. Monsters threaten your viallage, andyou go out to stop them, even though Crystal Chronicles throws a monkey wrench in that] There, I suggested all that I've played. Sora96 17,256 Posted December 21, 2011 Don't worry, this is the correct section. I recommend Final Fantasy X and then play the sequel Final Fantasy X-2.
heartless101 83 Posted December 21, 2011 I have just started Final Fantasy, and I would recommend Final Fantasy XIII. It is a challenging, fun game with an interesting plot. Besides Final Fantasy XIII-2 is coming out soon, so I'd recommend Final Fantasy XIII.
Nikolasvanitas 358 Posted December 21, 2011 ff7,ff9 ffx they are my favorite ,but all of them are great
Isaix 924 Posted December 21, 2011 You should play FFVII first, because its the best. You could start with VIII,IX,X if you want, but there's not really a first Final Fantasy to start with they are all awesome,I started with VII only because I knew Cloud and Sephiroth from the Kingdom Hearts games and everyone says its the best,so I had to try
AnsemTheWise 1,114 Posted December 21, 2011 Start off with hatred: VII was not the best! VIII was better. I recommend starting with X or XII. XII takes a little getting used to, but it's a great time. Then bump up to XIII! You also can't go wrong with IV or VIII. VII was good, but not the best. DragonMaster 1,166 Posted December 22, 2011 XII for the PS2 is a great game. The story is pretty interesting, and I personally like the characters. The battle system is a little weird, as it is kind of like a mesh of turn-based and real-time. It is fun, though. If you have a GBA, DS Phat/Lite, or a GameCube with a GBA player, then Tactics Advanced is an awesome game as well. The story is maybe a little simple, but it is charming all the same. Great fun, if you like strategy games. Heck, I don't even really like strategy games that much and I like it.
hatok 6,413 Posted December 22, 2011 I think one of the 2D ones would help set the best image for the series. I always recommend VI to first timers, but it comes down to your tastes. XII for the PS2 is an exploration heavy game, focusing more on the world than the story (And it plays a bit like an MMORPG, minus the 'MO') XIII starts slow, but finishes strong. If you can sit through about 30 hours of buttonmashing, spruced up with some very nice cutscenes, you can get to the actual meat of the game, which is quite fun. X was the first fully 3D game, and the first to use voice acting, so it's a bit rough around the edges, but the package as a whole is very good. IX, one of my favourites, I highly recommend you DO NOT play first. The game is loaded with references to past FF's, so save that one until you've played I-VIII, if you can. In my opinion, this is the most balanced FF, with a great story, great graphics, great presentation, great music, and great gameplay. There are other FF's that do some of those things better, but no other does ALL of them this well. VIII is strange. The story is intriguing, and the battle system can be a lot of fun if you want to invest a lot of time in it. It might not be for beginners though. Best played with a walkthrough, there are a metric tonne of misseable things in this game. VII may be overrated, but don't be fooled. It's still an excellent game, and might be a good choice for first game. Just overlook the graphics. Also best played with a walkthrough. V is one of my favourites as well, but I think it takes a certain mindset to enjoy. The game features an ability system that can be ridiculously broken, and there's no shortage of variety. It's also the only game where you'll see a turtle battle it out with a possessed tree. IV is a classic. It's been remade a tonne of times for a reason. It doesn't hold up the best nowadays, but it has its charm, also, the sequel, which is on Wiiware and in the PSP remake, is surprisingly good. II is grind heavy, but enjoyable in an oldschool way. Surprisingly complex plto for an NES game I is pretty much all grinding. I don't like this one much. But wait, there's more! If you want to avoid the whole turn based thing, you should try out crisis Core for the PSP, or the Crystal Chronicles series. There's also the upcoming Versus XIII, which plays like KH, but has the plot of an FF, so you should like that. The are a bunch of other spinoffs besides, I can't really think fo much to say about them.
