Hey guys. I decided to write something different today. I'd love to hear your opinions. Don't know if this stood good or not, what do you think?
Life Can Be Hard
Prologue
It was just another common day in the lives of John, Jessy and Lym. Their dad had gone out to buy food for dinner, and their mother had gone to the shopping, to buy some new clothes for them. It would surely be a nice day once they got back. But something was wrong.
Suddenly, the weather dramatically changed -- from a beautiful sun, a powerful, scary thunderstorm started. Lym, the youngest, started to scream, and John, the oldest, tried to calm her down. Strangely, the little girl simply would not stop screaming, and it did not take long for her to start to cry.
Jessy then went to her room, and got Lym’s favorite toy, in order to make she feel happier. Another meaningless effort -- apparently, there was no way to make her stop crying and screaming. John started to feel an emptiness in his heart, as if a part of it had been broken and would never return. He wanted to cry -- but being the oldest brother, he could not simply start crying -- it was his responsibility to take care of his two young sisters.
In all of a sudden, Lym fainted. This cruel world was no longer the reality for her, at least not at that moment. A beautiful world, the world of the dreams, was now what was the reality for her. She had a nice dream. She, Jessy, John and their parents were laughing together, in a sunny day. All of them seemed to be really happy. However, the dream did not take long to turn into a nightmare.
First, her father disappeared. Then her mother started screaming, and when Lym looked again, she was not able to locate her mother anymore. Jessy and John suddenly were unable to move, and then it looked like as if time had stopped. That horrible scene was momentarily frozen, and only Lym was able to speak or walk.
After that, it did not take long for the nightmare to end -- she simply heard a voice saying “It’s your destiny. Face it.”. And then all that could be heard were the voices of her mother and father screaming, and Lym woke up.
Tragic news were awaiting for John, who was sixteen-years old, Jessy, who was thirteen-years old, and Lym, who was just ten-years old. The phone rang, and a frightful silence surrounded their house. Each one of them looked at the other two’s faces, as if they wanted to ask who would be courageous enough to go and discover what was happening.
Being the oldest, John valiantly stood up and approached the phone. Lym looked to his face, with tears on her eyes, while Jessy was still trying to calm her down. There was no way to avoid it; they needed to know who was calling, and more importantly, what they wanted to tell them.
“Hello, could I speak with John, son of Herica and Fylipe?” the voice calmly spoke.
“It’s him. What do you want?” John asked, in a tone as if he knew what the man wanted to inform him.
“I’m sorry to say, but I must tell you -- your father and your mother were in the center of the city, apparently very happy, by what the people that were near told us, and then --- a really strong thunder killed your father, and after that, your mother --- she suddenly disappeared. We’re trying to find her, but it’s been hard. Your father’s body has disappeared as well. We do not know why that happened, actually, we’re wondering just as much as you might be now. Please, don’t be reckless. I’m truly sorry for what’s happened. I just hope you ---” With rage, John threw the phone in the direction of the wall.
“What did they want, John? Why did you do that?” Jessy asked, as she looked to his face, and saw tears coming from his once happy, sparkling eyes.
“I....I.... don’t --- don’t know... how to tell you, but.... the man.... he called us.... to tell that dad was killed by a strong thunder, and mom’s out of sight....” John said, as countless tears fell from his face to the ground. It was rare to see him crying. He had always considered himself as one of the bravest people of the world.
“What? You’re kidding, right? That is just a...... JOKE, right?” Jessy screamed, as she tried to pretend she did not know he was talking the truth.
The three of them cried as they never did before. It was the saddest day in their lives. Nothing could make them feel better. Just to know that they would never see them again was too painful. Something that no one could understand. Each one of them faced the situation in different ways. But the pain surely was the same for all of them. What would be of them now? What would they do without the two people they used to see as examples of good, honest people?
