Concentration Camps in North Korea

Posted

Ok so in school the other day in my ACL class we were talking about the Korean War and affects it had things of that nature. We then started talking about modern day North Korea and that they have concentration camps for their own people and 80% percent of their population lives there. I found this article of a survivor that freaked me out. (Idk if the 80% thing is true or not)

http://www.foxnews.com/world/2012/04/13/inside-north-korea-concentration-camp/

(^ link for the story) what is your opinion on the C.C. In n.korea?

Concentration camps in its entirety is a horrible and cruel idea...

it happening in North Korea doesn't really surprise me and only adds to my disgust towards the North Korean government.

I still can't believe any country who do this to their own peoples

Edited by SummerRain

Coverment seemingly cares about their own a** there

I cant believe stuff like this still happens today. I feel bad for what that man went through. North Korea could control the population in a more effective way that doesnt have to involve stuff like this

Really, this isn't so surprising. North Korea is a cesspool of corruption and violence. They put all of their money and effort into developing nuclear missiles instead of feeding their own people. And truly, what better way to control them, then to gather them into one place. Really, the next logical step (as has been seen through History, especially in the last century) is that the North Koreans are going to put the people in the camps to work and then eventually through extermination

A country is destroying itself..... Do you think someone should stop them?

The sad truth is most communist and dictatorial countries do this. The USSR did this, China does this, and so does Cuba. They rule mainly through fear.

The US has actually done something like this to the Japanese during WWII, though I think the conditions were no where as this.

80% is a really unlikely number. That would pretty much mean the entire country was a concentration camp.

No, it's better that they destroy themselves before they try to destroy anyone else...again...

In related news, Iran is also believed to have concentration camps. Judging from satellite imaging they appear to be modeled after the camps the Nazi's used during the holocaust. None of them appear to be occupied though they seem to be planning ahead for a future war with Israel

Honestly, as horrible a thing as this is, it makes sense. :// This a logical step for them. How do you keep people in line? By scaring them. And this obviously worked. I'm not saying it's good, but I see where they're coming from. It's the best step for the interest of their own government officials. Now for the citizens is an entirely different story.

This is terrible though. That poor boy, especially growing up not knowing freedom and living in such a horrible place. 80% seems extremely improbable, so I'd disregard that number.
