Comparing the difficulty of the games to DDD.

Posted

The difficulty of the games are going by Standard modes, which I always play on.

Starting at Kingdom Hearts, the game was actually pretty difficult due to very limited controls and pretty over powering boss battles, but the game could easily be turned on it's head with a few hours of grinding. It didn't take long.

(Just right)

Then Kingdom Hearts II, where no matter how you played it, the game was a cake walk. This is excluding Sephiroth, who you have to grind for a bit to be able to stand up against. The last boss could also pose a threat if your not of adequate level, but it was very easy to get to level 99 in this game.

(Very fun, but a bit too easy)

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, the game was a bit more difficult than Kingdom Hearts, but I am not sure if it was due to controls or legit difficulty spikes. The last I played it with my level 56 Roxas, the last boss went down mre easily than I remember. So maybe I just sucked back then.

(Hard? Maybe it was just me. or because it was just monotonous)

Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep. Now, this game was a bit too hard if you ask me. Regular fights can easily get too hard if you don't keep your level in check, and a few bosses, mainly the last few, are just way to rediculous to me. They relied on a crazy amount of dodging and guarding, with very little windows of attack, and killer attacks that could kill you in 2 hits. It takes too long to grind in this game, and when you have 3 characters to do it for, it becomes too repetitive and frustrating. Also, the requirments to get the secret ending are ludicrous and nearly impossible to do if you have a life.

Overall though, I guess the pain this game dishes out is worth the payoff in story and emotion it gives. It is in my top 3 favorite KH games.

(Too hard)

Now, for Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance. The game starts off a bit tough, but nothing like BBS. And it is one of the few games besides KHII that actually keeps getting easier, and with little effort. I think this is due to the Dream Eaters giving very good commands pretty early on and leveling up being fine turned to not take forever (ala BBS, KH, 358/2 Days). I have seen people complain about the bosses taking forever in this game, but never had I spent more than 5 to 10 minutes on a boss. Not once did I ever even Drop in the middle on a boss fight. Once, during one irritating fight as Riku, a boss that teleports everywhere pushed me to beating him just as my counter was striking 2 seconds, but that wasn't due to his life bar or difficulty, just his unfair teleporting. Even the last few bosses were pushovers to me; all of them. Though I was only like level 38 or 40 with 3 Curagas, Dark Firaga, Meteor, and Baloonga (all 4 recommened).

So to me, the game wasn't hard, but it wasn't a cake walk like KHII was. Basically, if you watch for DE commands and do every fight you come across, your fine. No grinding needed. I never grinded or pay much attention to making many Dream Eaters, though I did use R&R Seal and Meow Jesty. So the game is perfect to me.

(Just right)

Now you may be asking why I did this. The short answer is; I was bored. And I find comments about bosses taking too long in almost every review, which is laughable considing the ease I beat it with. Birth by Sleep had bosses that took nearly 40 minutes, and even KHII did in it's later stages. KH3D actually has some of the shortest bosses in the series to me, and a good level of difficulty that pushes too easy, yet keeps you on your toes at times too without getting like BBS or 358/2 Days.

And for ones wondering why I gave no mention of Coded or Chain of Memories, it's because I havn't had the chance to play Chain of Memories, and don't want to play Coded.

Did you play Kh2 Final mix, no exp?

The easiest game was definitely KHII without a doubt. The hardest game for me was probably the very first time I played Kingdom Hearts. Is everyone forgetting the first time you battled the Possessed Riku? Forget about it. I'd be shocked to hear if any of you actually beat him the very first time you battled him. The second hardest was actually probably BBS, though.

P.S. Everybody forgot about Chain of Memories, but that game was easy anyway. :P

In my opinion, I think Days was the easiest KH game I played. I have to admit that there were two bosses that got the heck out of me >_> but it was easier than KH II at least.

Hmm, though I didn't play all the games on the same difficulty, I felt it went like this:

  • Re:CoM - I played on BEGINNER MODE and had a harder time playing this game than any other KH game. I might go so far to say this was the hardest game I've beaten. Battles against normal enemies can take a long time. Many of the bosses are ridiculous, and because level grinding is made monotonous by the long battles, it is easier to just fill your deck with Sonic Blade sleights and go at it. Heck, even moving throughout the "worlds" can be difficult (looking at you, room that needed a blue zero card >_> )

  • KHI/Days - KHI, on Normal, was challenging all around, but the amount of blatantly frustrating fights was relatively low. Days, on Normal/Proud (did both), had generally strong enemies, much like KHI. There were a few frustrating bosses (Leech Grave) and perhaps the most annoying enemy in a KH game (EMERALD FREAKING SERENADE).

  • DDD - Proud Mode. Most enemies have the ability to inflict status conditions on you, a few of which keep you from moving. Many enemies also have a "berserk mode", in which they turn red and basically go crazy. A few bosses were frustrating. If you aren't at a high enough level, mobs will kill you easily. Flowmotion, however, is almost overpowered and helps alleviate some of the difficulty.

  • Re:coded - I switched the difficulty around a lot. Most of the difficulty I had from this game was from the gimmicks in each world, and not the enemies. The debugging sections could be difficult, especially if you were attempting the challenges or ran into an Eliminator unprepared. I can't really think of a boss that angered me, out side of a few boss fights utilizing the gimmicks I mentioned before.

  • KHII - Proud Mode. The enemies were spreadable butter, and the Keyblade a hot butter knife. Nearly all common enemies will fall at your feet, especially when utilizing magic and reaction commands. Reaction commands are almost reminiscent of Flowmotion, but they are decidedly more overpowered. There are very few frustrating bosses, ie. Xigbar, Xaldin, Demyx (though, I found a certain "link attack" with Goofy completely obliterates this guy on my second play through).
Convenient chart:

Re:CoM>>>>>KHI/Days>>>DDD>>Re:coded>>>>KHII

Haven't played BbS.

I think Re:CoM/CoM was hardest for me. Then second hardest would probably be KH1 The only thing hard about BBS for me was Terra's final boss fight. I think DDD was actually easy and I was playing on Proud. I kept hearing how difficult it was and that the difficulty was similar to KH1 so I always leveled up ten times in each world before moving on. So maybe I was over leveled or something. But to me, DDD was not a challenge at all. KH2 might be the easiest I think, but I still had fun with it.

Wait so you were like level 70 at the final world? Congrats for the patience. Most people finish the game around level 40 though. So yeah you were overleveled. ONLY thirty levels though. xD

I don't get the point of this, wouldn't judging difficulty only be fair on the hardest difficulty of every game? and I find it funny how many people found BBS hard, what with the invincible dodging

^ I explained this at the top of this page, so no.

KH1, BBS, and Kh3D were the hardest to me, kh2 was easy no matter what difficulty and days was a bit challenging.

At the years, Kingdom Hearts it puts more harder than the previous games this is more exciting

I'd say this is easily the hardest game. Not based on standard because I never play on standard.

There were only three things difficult about DDD: Rinzler, final world Secret Portals, and YMX.

The enemies in general are much stronger and Sora/Riku's defense are set lower than in most other games. If you don't have Once More and Second Chance (I didn't have Second Chance, I think) this game is super crazy.

The battle against Ansem has an attack that WILL kill you if you don't have Once More (or maybe it's Second Chance).

KH1: Easy. If you know how to play... If u grind alot in KH1 then it will be very easy. Sora Lv 61

KH2: Bit Hard.. Like Sepiroth but thats it. Sora Lv 90

KHDays: Hard... Not the bosses that are hard (well one boss is hard, Dustflier)It was very hard on multiplayer to unlock secret characters. Roxas: Lv 66

KHBBS:Medium: It was very easy in half of it then it got hard. When I mean hard the secret bosses. (R. Vanitas,Unknown) Aqua Lv61 Terra Lv 57 Ventus: Lv 57

KH3D:Very Easy: I unlocked everything in 3 days. All the bosses were easy even Julius. Sora Lv 56 Riku Lv 60

I'm noticing people are saying the games are easy "if" you grind "if" you're a certain level (when seems to be over the recommended level of what the world says). Does that really means the game is easy if you're stronger than what the game recommends you should be? The bosses or enemies tactics alone aren't what make them hard. One's level is a very big factor in how hard something can be. Difference between a low level and a high level is the how well you can take a hit. On a high level you don't have to focus too hard on survive. Most attacks won't kill you or won't even put you close to low health. A low level person may be put in perilous health by every attack or if not prepared enough killed by every attack. They have to fight in a much different style, they're forced to learn how the opponent fights and need to learn how to survive while still finding opportunities to deal damage. Also the difference in damage is a difference of destroying a boss or enemy or having the will to even want to fight so long, that in and of itself is a challenge.

Hard to compare to difficulties of the game when each game doesn't exactly allow one put up the limits other games allow and each person doesn't really fight at the same levels. Different people will find some things harder than others and this I understand but it sounds like to me if one needs to grind then the game at one point must have been a challenge. I'm not saying anyone who needs to grind is a bad player but to me grinding means one wasn't able to handle the challenge at hand.

Please. I only had one of those abilities and I didn't even have a problem with Ansem.

I don't see why people think Ansem is a hard boss.

@Rayne the Relentless

I'm someone who want to enjoy a game and not to have it as hard as possible

because of this I normaly play on normal mode or proud mode for unlocking the secret ending easier

I don't need a challenge so I level up a lot to be stronger than you should be

and because DDD is very hard on critical (even without no exp and high character levels you take a lot of damage) I won't play this game on this mode anymore

only once for the trophy and never again

BbS on critical was easier for me (played only Ven's story on critical)

at the beginning KH was an easy game series, but with new games it became harder and harder and now we have nearly reached the typical Square Enix high difficulty what I really hate

Well actually it's mostly learning. I am almost done with a critcal run (lv 38 and going into TWTNW once I get the dive wing) and I've learned 3 things:

Drop me nots

Always block then counter

Practice and learn

Once you've fought a boss a few times you know it's moves and how to avoid them.

I'm sorry I didn't mean this for everyone, I know some people just want to play to enjoy. I meant it for the people who say it's easy like they're expecting a challenge.

Once you've fought a boss a few times you know it's moves and how to avoid them.

I honestly wish that was actually the case sometimes but depending on one's limitations knowing the boss inside and out doesn't always make it that doable.

Please. I only had one of those abilities and I didn't even have a problem with Ansem.

I don't see why people think Ansem is a hard boss.

Not everyone uses the same tactics, or fights at the same level. As I've tried saying the difficulty of something rises depending on one's limitations and level and abilities is definitely a couple of those limitations. The struggles that people have with these bosses, even though I did overcome them I do feel their struggles as I did struggle too. I hope this isn't overboard and if it is I apologize but I have 3 videos of me with that fight, 2 of which are in our video section. If you don't believe that these fights are difficult watch and see the limitations I placed I myself. I'm not trying to say you are a bad player with this, I just feel like people who struggle may get upset when others try to say some things are easy and I'd like for people who say it's easy to get a sense of just what the struggle is so maybe people may see eye to eye.

50 something. I had End of Pain

50 something. I had End of Pain

Well, that explains everything. You were 15+ levels over me (and probably the majority of players) and had a Keyblade way better than Counterpoint (which is what I had).

I've never finished a full length KH game with a level higher than 45.
