Your Dream Landmark/Architectural Building Visit

Posted

What historical landmark or/and famous architectural sight would you want to visit someday?

For me it has to be the famous Orthodox Cathedral in Turkey called, Hagia Sophia.

Note: Hagia Sophia was constructed by two Byzantine Greek architects Anthemius of Tralles and

Isidorus of Miletus by the order of Emperor Justinian I in 532.

This famous Turkish building located in Istanbul was built under the influence of Justinian I around the 532-537. It was considered Byzantine's grandest accomplishment in architecture of all time and it still stands today as a museum for tourists to visit.

Sadly, there are very little remains from the original Hagia Sophia since it was burn in the Nika Riots and the second time from an earthquake. But it remains to be one of my favorite architectural buildings in my book.

The interiors inside this building is absolutely gorgeous decorated in mosaics and marble pillars, and the artistic detail is written in every inch of the walls, pillars, nave, dome, and other pieces that make Hagia Sophia a beautiful cathedral!

And I can't forget the art painted against the exteriors of the walls and ceilings.

By my guess, you probably already been there before?

I can't pick one D:

I hopefully will get to see the Louvre, the la Tour Eiffel, the Arc de Triomphe, Versailles, Notre Dame, the La Sagrada Familia, Barcelona Cathedral, ect if $3000 fails from the sky.

I love Greek stuff so I might go to that cathedral some day if I can :D

I don't really have any landmarks, per say, that I would like to visit. But, I would love to visit certain countries such as Canada or Japan. Honestly, travelling in general is something I would love to do.

I would love to visit the Big Ben, or the Cathedral of Notre Dame ^^

Well I always wanted to go to that Colosseum in Rome

If I were good at math I'd become an architect.

I don't care if it isn't the tallest building in the world anymore, I still think Taipei101 looks amazing.

I also want to see the Reichstag one of these days. The history behind this building is remarkable.

Posted Image

It started out as the German Parliament building before and after World War 1. When the Nazi's took over, this building started seeing a lot of things.

Hitler would often give fiery speeches in the main assembly room to fellow party members.

He often boasted that Nazi Germany would last 1000 years in the main assembly room. Less than 10 years later, the Soviets ended the European theater of WW2 with a bloody battle in and around Reichstag itself. Loyal remnants of the Wermacht and SS fought to the death, a combination of pure fanaticism and Soviet bloodlust assured no German left the building alive.

A small Soviet squad prepare to assault a burning Reichstag.

Painting of Soviet Soldiers celebrating the final defeat of Nazi Germany outside of a war-torn Reichstag.

The Reichstag in total ruin after the Battle of Berlin. Bombing runs, artillery bombardments, fire, and fighting leave it heavily damaged.

A soldier raises the Soviet Flag on top of the Reichstag over war-torn Berlin. They didn't go out of there way to raise the flag initially. It was done purely for propaganda in order to "compete" with the iconic image of American Soldiers raising the American flag over Iwo Jima.

Russian soldiers, from the battle and the subsequent occupation signed their names on the building. Many still remain today.

The Reichstag was in total ruin for a long time. A few times it was considered beyond repair and almost torn down. However, the building went under multiple reconstruction efforts starting in the 60s and was finally completely reconstructed in 1999. It is now the second most visited attraction in Germany. Partly because of the refurbished glass dome that also serves as a lovely observation deck.

Big Ben and Parliament are a great sight to behold. It has a certain charm that enables it to feel ancient yet modern at the same time.

The Freedom Tower will be a sight to behold once complete.

I also like the Sydney Opera house. Though I have to say, it's a lot more impressive on the outside than it is on the inside.

hmmm

Eiffel Tower, Statue of Liberty and stonehenge mainly.

There are 3094902340929023 places I want to see, but I'd say it's between the cliche eiffel tower and the sydney opera house.
