Something that has been bothering me.

Posted

Alright, I'm not sure if this has been discussed before, I just really want something to give me a logical answer here.

In the final battle between Riku and YMX, he tells Riku who he is, and that his 'future self gave him a task'. And then he explains the rules of time travel. "You can only move forward, as per the laws of time." And yet, when he was on Destiny Islands, wasn't he supposedly visited by his future heartless?

I just want to know if I'm missing something here. Did YMX move forward in time before getting those instructions?

What he meant by moving forward is that you can only go one way. Once you start going in one direction, you can't turn around and go back.

as per the laws of time

But he also said you can't change what's destined to happen. Wouldn't that be meddling in the past?

meddling in the past was destined

ah i love these time travel conversations! hmm... i`ll give it some thought.

no, cause then he`d be contradicting himself in "you can only move forward".

but what if can, i dunno, telepathically talk to a past version of himself to do all those things? that would explain him being one-step-ahead thing!

sorry for the double post!

I think he said that once you arrive you can only move forward. In other words, you can go back, but once you reach where you want to go, you can only go forward. If you're going too go back, you have to do that first.

I believe what Young Xehanort said was literal. YOU may move both forward and backward through time, but time itself only goes forward. It supports what he says about events destined to happen (e.g. he was destined to travel BACK in time to set his younger self on his pre-destined path. However, events cannot be rewritten even if you go back and attempt to change them. Just a theory, probably plenty of holes to pick at that, but hey, find a water tight one.... I dare you! xD

If any of you are familiar with Steven King's Dark Tower books, I'm sure you'll get where I'm coming from :)
