Hey guys i'm new here xD (long time kh player though).

While replaying this game on critical mode i realised how useful blocking attacks and countering actually is. In my first playthrough on normal mode i just mashed the A button and pressed the occasional X command, but now unless I blcok I die >.<.

I was just wandering if anyone else found this to be true?

Definitely. Blocking helps a lot since it can keep you from taking damage. In critical mode you can probably go without blocking but it will make things easier.

blocking in combat...is for wimps

What about countering?

I found blocking to be useless in the other games, but I haven't played DDD yet. I get it Xmas

To be honest blocking and countering is a lot more effective when incoporated with Sora's style of fighting. Riku has a quicker and lighter pace then Sora does, his Dark Barrier is good at blocking the many openings he creates for enemies with his style but his counter leaves a lot to be desired. Sora naturally is effective at making defense into offense. I'm particulary fond of using sliding block with Sora it creates a lot of opening for follow up attacks.

I've never blocked and countered as much as I have with Ven. It's amazing with him.

I haven't played KH3D yet, but block always helped me in KH2FM. I wouldn't had been able to beat the game in lv1 without it. Dodge Roll helps a lot too, specially in 3D I think because it can also end in Flowmotion, leading to a Flowmotion attack. In modes that you can't take much damage, dodging and blocking are crucial to survive win. Learning the enemy's patterns also help, since in DDD, like I have noticed, Nightmares don't always stay stunned while you're hiting them, like what happens with Heartless.

Well i started blocking at BBS.

I started with Begginer mode and i found it easy. Then i replayed at critical mode and i found out how useful is blocking in combats! ;p

Yeah, blocking does make battles easier and usually looks better than running away when someone attacks you.

Yep, block helps a lot in the bosses. I have yet to get sliding block though.

HEHEH

Yeah, blocking is much more useful in this game. I mean, in games like KH2, you just have to atack without stopping, and things work out ok, but I thought I needed it more in KH3D. Besides, the counters kind of incentivated me to block. That was more true with Sora. since Riku's counter just doesn't give a good deal of damage compared to Sora's, even though the area it covers is better and hits enemies more often, it just doesn't compesate the poor damage...

yeah i like the counter attacks. It opens up oppurtunity for new combos, looks great, and does good damage.

I haven't played DDD yet as I am getting it for Christmas but in past games I have found dodge rolling to be a better option for me than simply blocking. For me it never felt right so I was always more comfortable with rolling.

It's the best actually, the more you block the better. The enimies take from you a lot of life, so just block and counteratack.
