Veteran KH13 members should have a place to hang out

Featured Replies

I think requiring 1000 likes is a tiny bit majorly extreme. And yes, I am basing this off of me personally*. I've been here for three years, know all the inside jokes (even ones that predate me), and I like to think that most of my posts are of adequate quality. Yet, I would not be able to take part in a part of a forum that I most certainly should be able to (at least I think I would be qualified for the type of forum you're describing).

Maybe have different qualifications, were meeting one would automatically allow you to enter? One/Two years membership or with a certain amount of likes? I would suggest post number as well, but I know that it would be abused.

I like the idea, but I just don't think having an obscene amount of likes is the best fee for entry (so to speak). Especially considering that there seems to be some members who get likes on all their posts, and others who just don't seem to get many.

*I will freely admit that I am being selfish here.

I see your point. Considering that we have anywhere between 500 to 800 daily visitors on these forums (many of them do not post frequently however) and that only around 30 people are above the 1000 like threshold suggested the idea still excludes the massive majority of the forum. I'd imagine that the amount of people above 1000 would increase if this was implemented and successful, it would still leave out a massive percentage of the forum. A year based system would probably be the best bet if it were combined with something else.

We do not need a VIP section.

We do not need a VIP section.

Care to elaborate?

We do not need a VIP section.

It's all about branding. Instead of calling it the VIP section, you call is the lounge! A place where veteran members can just relax!

Or something.

i dunno

Going with the prerequisite idea.

What about any combination of three criteria? Like, if you make 1000 posts (Excluding things like Forum Games and greeting new members), are joined for a year, and get 500 likes?

So a really active member could get in in under a year by making lots of good posts that get likes, but otherwise, a decently active member would basically get in automatically after a year.

Then there could be the appeal system for people who don't meet these criteria, but still want in.

I mean, some people are mad about it being exclusive, but honestly, it seems like a case of wanting something just because you can't have it. If you're not that active of a member, or don't want a lounge type area... why do you care about getting in.

Why do you or most of you guys care for wanting to create this system in the first place? All of you should know this is gonna be some "Cool Crowd" thing and the majority of the members here will think of you guys that way and starts to wanting to get into the "Cool Crowd" badly which will definitely happen no doubt.

No matter how many 'likes' requirement you guys want to implement, it will surely be just a bunch of threads saying "Please like me!" and so on and so forth. Without even realizing it when this system is implemented, you're already splitting the community in half.

It's not about encouraging new members to stay a while, but to get likes and join in your inner circle. Not to mention, you guys will be giving the mods an even rough time when this system is implemented.

This idea is just part of an ego trip and you all damn well know it is.

i think this could work, but it's kinda hard to get likes when you're not funny. I'm one fine example. I'd take years to enter it, or I'd never get in it, because the ammount you'd need would only increase, to keep you guys VIPs. I'm not the best member around, seeing how sometimes I say a lot of stupid stuff, but I come to this site to have a good time and laugh a lot with its members. What good would be coming to KH13 without hatok, Keys, Jim, etc? It wouldn't be worth it, seeing as the best memebers get more likes than others, and it would discourage some members to join or to stay in the site, since it'd need a lot of time to in this VIP area.

I am protecting my interests a lot but other memeber's as well. Seriously, KH13 would be less cool and funny without you guys

I'm not really 100% against this idea, but it just still feels like we're moving the issue away and making the website just more segregated. Making a likes or post count requirement doesn't help either. People would either start to spam likes worse than they already are, or start to spam threads and that has happened in the past without an area dedicated to any specific "special" members.

This sort of thing kind of reminds me when we had this whole "posts" issue. Long story short, there was a time when post counts were treated similar to how the likes system were and people tried their best to get on the top of the post lists, similar to how the likes list is currently represented. People went on ego trips, tried their best to post as much as they could to where we had spammy threads everywhere and it was a bit crazy to even properly function on the forums. Eventually we had to think of something and so we removed post count in some areas and started to get more serious about what people post in threads in the other sections and although our intention was not to "oppress" people's posting ability, people took it as such and started a whole argument similar to this. When we removed post counts from certain areas of the site, we noticed how DRASTICALLY people's post count started to drop. Eventually people got over it, but there were some bad arguments about it for quite a while. No matter what we did, there was always going to be a side for and a side against of what we had done even if what we were trying to do was trying to better the community and not to ""oppress"" anyone. :U

But as for this idea it still feels like we're not really solving the issue for real and it will just cause more tension down the road? I dunno... I feel like it's not a solution, but rather just would slow down any issues for a short while if anything

you guys lost me at the likes part

lots of likes =/= "older/veteran" members
i dont have 1k likes, so therefore im a new member? that's dumb

personally i dont see the need for a 'veteran' exclusive area of any kind. i don't understand why we would need one at all?? can someone explain that to me

if this is about the new rule, really guys-- making threads about specific people + you and three other members inside jokes is ridiculous, use the pm or chat system it's not hard

Personal messages are more exclusionary than anything. The only people that can take part are the people you specifically invite. Even if a public thread is created with only a handful of people in mind, for the most part, other people join in on the conversation, contribute to it, and are later considered during the creation of other threads.

Personal messages and chat rooms don't help because they keep the amount of people at a fixed position that can't grow and can only go down through attrition. Many of these jokes became popular for a reason. People were intrigued about them and wanted to join the fun. If personal conversations were the only way this type of thing is done, the topic would get old without fresh ideas to keep it interesting, die, and be forgotten.

Limiting this kind of thing to just chat and personal messages would only form cliques and add a true feeling of disunity around here. Rather than groups of members growing constantly and intermingling with each other to form a united front, these groups would become invite only, xenophobic, and divided among each other.

I can see how some people believe a VIP area would only add to exclusion, but I can't see how doing something that would intentionally exclude people would make things better. The old forum may have made some people feel left out, but it is almost 100% accidental. Forcing people to mingle in goofy ways in private leads to intentional exclusion. The only way to stop this would be to invite everyone in the forum to a private conversation, but if this is the case, why not let them remain public?
