So...I have Christmas money to spend and I've been wanting more games!!!  Who knows how long I'm going to have to wait for 1.5 Remix to come out...so I looked up Final Fantasy games on Walmart...and FF IV and FF III are on the DS!  Mainly, what I want to know is if they have a decent story line that is close to Kingdom Hearts or FF7?  Any information would be great!

Both aren't really close to either, I'd say. Both are more lenient to Fantasy -though after playing IV for a long time, I would highly recommend it. The story/characters are interesting enough; though not really close to that of Kingdom Hearts, or VII.

Final Fantasy III has the same type of plot as Final Fantasy I. Crystals and such. But depending on how much patience you have for Rpgs will determine whether you make it far in FF4 as the difficulty level has received mixed reviews.

I you want a good story,I'd suggest you pick FFIV. Of course its not AS good as FFVII or KH's story line, but its very interesting.I enjoyed FFIII as well, but if the story is important to you then I don't recommend you pick FFIII,because (at least to me) the story its just...there...and its not very interesting either. If I were you,I'd pick FFIV,its better then FFIII in my opinion and not just because of the story,it feels more polish in every aspect(except that FFIII has a better job system then FFIV)

The first three FF titles aren't big on plot.  FFIV is the first to focus on an actual story, but looking through a playthrough of the original SNES version, the plot's execution is rather--how should I put it--primitive compared to FFVI and beyond.  In fact, it's quite the opposite of KH in that it's very straightforward in telling you what you need to know for the story.  Maybe KH should take some lessons.  I saw some videos of the DS remake and the script is a lot less derpy, but I hear the difficulty is a lot tougher than the SNES one... and since the SNES one is fairly hard to begin with, I hope you have patience and the willingness to get hurt.

Final Fantasy III is very difficult on the DS. But it's a great game.

I recommend the FFIV, is a classic, and it has a good story, and I think it would be easier than the FFIII (if you're gonna play it on the DS of course).

I wouldn't say either game is similar to Kingdom Hearts or Final Fantasy VII.  Both Final Fantasy III and IV aren't very focused around the plot, whereas KH and FFVII are.  In general, Final Fantasy III isn't very good.  It's extremely difficult and has literally NO character or plot development.  On the contrary, however, Final Fantasy IV was great.  It's probably my third favorite Final Fantasy game, and I've played most of the series.  It has a great cast, and, while the plot is a little simple, it's a good solid Final Fantasy game.  I'd recommend it. :D

If you have a DS and not a 3DS, you might also want to consider some of the GBA Final Fantasies.  Final Fantasy VI is AMAZING (my number one favorite, actually), and I'd say it's pretty similar to Final Fantasy VII.
