Robbie the Wise 5,050 Posted January 16, 2013 My god everyone, just firetrucking remove the like system. I'm tired of seeing this shit. Too many people getting butthurt. Yep. I said it.Quite frankly that seems to be the only way people will stop crying about who has more likes then the other person. That's what the issue is when comes down to it, there is too much emphasis on being popular(which takes form in various ways) on this site. First it was the post count, then it was the likes, and when none of those apply it's how long you've been a member here. The truth is this thread isn't about the fairness of the like system. It's about whether or not someone should be punished for having more likes then others because others make it into something more heinous then it really is. It's rich considering that Dchuich himself has always maintained it's for shits, and giggles yet even he makes this an issue. No matter what you add or remove, people will still be butthurt and competing against each other. If you remove the rep system people will go back to post counts (which is more damaging because this leads to crappy threads/posts just to raise that number). And if you remove the post count system something else will surely take it's place. But seriously though, the likes are just a number. They are by no means a representation of how popular/important/whatever you are as a member. I can't say I'm not a bit biased on this. Ever since the rep system was recreated a year or two back I was always getting a lot of likes. Hell I was even the first to break 1000 likes. Maybe some members who don't get as many likes are a bit upset I don't know, It's never been a "problem" for me. I doubt this is a major issue though. DC, I understand you want to make sure nobody feels left out, but there are some people who will just whine and complain over every insignificant thing. Logic would say that profile veiws would be just as important as likes as people would only check profiles if the member in question was either consistently making points or expressing opinions that genuinely interested others or had similar/appealing qualities to others. As you can only gain a single view per member it seems that if there were any value to these statistics then they would be equal to/ more valuable than likes. At least likes is restricted and something that has qualities pretty much everyone can bitch about and is out in the open. No need to introduce a pink elephant on site! I don't see a problem. What are you getting for having the mosts likes? If you arent getting any reward why the heck does it matter?! WHY?! Why would you care?! I dont understand. Lets someone have their likes if thats what makes them happy! My goodness! Look, the only problem I have with the likes system is that Im easily amused so I run out of likes from time to time. Gimme more likes ): But yeah, if (for some reason) someone has that big of a problem with the likes system then yeah....remove it. But then people might complain that there isnt one...... It may be because I've only been on here for 4 months, but it seems to me as if this whole idea came out of nowhere.
