I hope they would, but I don't think it's likely for either system. :(

From what i've heard i won't enjoy the next gen consoles

I reckon the very first consoles released will, then they'll upgrade to a slimmer version of each which removes the backwards compatibility but you're compensated because it's like 2cm smaller.

 

The next gen consoles seem set to suck anyway

I certainly hope they will but...something tells me that won't happen.

Considering the PS3 has PSOne and PS2 downloads already and PS3 discs are universal, I'd be shocked if the PS4 wasn't back-compat.

 

Given Microsoft's history, however...

I hope so. I mean, the 360 needing a hard drive to be backwards compatible? That's stupid.
