What happened to the Banjo Kazooie series?

Posted

Seriously, what happened to it? Rare made two incredibly fun 3D platformers on the N64, full of memorable stuff and fun gameplay. But ever since Microsoft bought Rare, they've messed up the franchise. They made a "sequel" to Banjo Tooie, sure. But you could hardly call it a true sequel, as gameplay was more based around building cars rather than collecting/platforming.

The only good news is that Ex-Rare members are coming together to make the spiritual successor to the series.

But yeah, that ends my rant xD

R.I.P Rare when they were good and not owned by Microsoft.

I think the series died. I always loved the original Banjo-Kazooie.

I hate it when rabid fan bash on Nuts n Bolts. Its not a bad game by any means. Its brutal and extremely sadistic on the difficulty but everything has a way around. Through extensive testing, I've made even the most evil missions a joke.

Its unfairly bashed for being a B&K game. Its really fun. I got several friends into it and we spent hours in the multiplayer workshop just throwing together junk and screwing around. You know I made a bike whose only purpose is to make donuts? To this day, its still the best vehicle I have ever made.

Building cars like that is not bad, but I just don't understand why it's in a Banjo Kazooie game. Banjo Kazooie has always been a 3D platformer with huge, open levels to explore. The feature feels very out of place, and feels like they took what was suppose to be in one game and just put it in Nuts n Bolts half way through development.

Worst company buy out in the history of gaming.

Ex-rare employee: “I think Rare have completely f***ed themselves. And it isn’t their fault; it’s Microsoft’s fault. They have completely ruined that company, and it makes me cry every day of my life.”

I've always believed Microsoft mismanaged Rare how do you explain the constant success with the N64 and one relatively successful Gamecube game and then they go to Microsoft where they kind of stumble thru the original Xbox and have been hit and miss with 360 games

This happened.

Correction. Microsoft happened.

To me, the N64 Banjo games are nothing but a wonderful legend. I've heard a lot of great things about the games, but since I've never owned a N64,I can't buy them. And thanks to Microsoft, Nintendo can't bring them back as virtual console games. :(

Well if you have the cash, I would highly recommend getting an N64 and the games. Great console, it's my favorite console out of the Saturn and Playstation, and has a ton of great games.
