What Mario game is a good one to start with?

Posted

That's available for the DS/3DS and is one of the side scrolling ones.

I was gonna get NSMB2 but then I read a less then enthusiastic review. Is the first New Super Mario Bros.the way to go?

I've never actually owned a Mario game before. I've played on my friends Wii, but I've nwver personally posessed one. Since I'm spreading out into the gaming world and catching up on what I've missed, Mario is near the top of that list.

So which one is a good one to start with?

Appreciate it.

NSMB2 is waaaaay better than NSMB, if you ask me. It's just an improved version, has all the same Power-Ups plus more and it has more content as Coin Rush, for example.

Outside of NSMB/2 you could get some of the older games that are on the eShop too. Depends on your region though at what's available.

But if you don't want to download some of the older titles then NSMB2 is the way to go for all the reasons that Beta pointed out above.

I just got NSMB2 and I really enjoy it. There are a lot of powers and features that involve getting a ton of coins. There is a coin counter that shows all of the coins you have collected throughout the game. I really enjoy collection things in games so yeah. In the end it doesn't really matter which one you start with. They all have the same basic concept.

I loved both NSMB but Super Mario 3D Land is firetrucking awesome too .Better than both of the NSMB in my opinion in every way and i LOVE the other two as well so thats sayin' something. LOL

Not much is available for the 3ds/ds mario-wise without the e-shop but New super mario bros would be one to check out. It's pretty good.

Honestly, the best Mario game to start with if you've never played before is Super Mario World for the SNES. It gives you the perfect intro to all the elements of Mario that will become staple in the game: the style of speed and platforming, the introduction to items, riding a Yoshi, and the music is pretty awesome as well. I don't know if there's a port for it on the DS, but if you have access to a Wii, you can get it on the virtual console.

Try out the Mario Karts, then I`d go with NSMB... NSMB2 is too easy.

This was exactly what I was going to suggest; Super Mario World is probably the greatest Mario game made, and it makes a lovely introduction to the series (not to mention it's side-scrolling).  My personal favorite after Super Mario World is Super Mario 64 DS.  Though it isn't a side-scrolling game, it's definitely a very good one indeed.  But, if you're still looking for side-scrolling, I'd suggest New Super Mario Bros; it's the closest to the originals.

I say you get "Paper Mario: Sticker Star"
