Complex Pokémon stuff I need help

Recommended Posts

NU stands for Never Used, which refers to Pokemon that people typically avoid using in Competitive battles, just another teir like Ubers, OU, UU.

Catching shiny Pokemon is a little tricky since there is a 1/8192 chance that a Pokemon will be shiny, this includes random encounters, Pokemon hatched from eggs, Pokemon given to you, and even Legendaries and Pokes you encounter in the overworld. This does not mean that after you encounter 8192 Pokemon your next one will be shiny, but instead every encounter has a .0012207%. You can lower this rate by breeding Pokemon of two different nationalities (i.e. a Japanese Poke on an English game) this is called the Masuda Method. This reduces the chance to 1/2048, however in Gen V this is increased to 1/1365.3. In Black 2 and White 2, there's an item called the Shiny Charm which boosts the percentage even further, which is obtained after catching every Pokemon and filling the National Dex.

Here's a cool guide for Pokemon EVs( Effort Values)http://www.serebii.net/games/evs.shtml hope this helps!

lol I just explained EV Training and breeding to my friend today (who called me a Pokemon Master AWW YISS)

Ok lets get down to this;

What is EV training?

EV is the short form for Effort Value. Each Pokemon gives specific EVs (eg Magikarp gives 1 speed EV, Audino gives 2 HP EVs etc.)

For each 4 EV you get, 1 point will be added to the stat (i.e when you get 4 HP EVs, say your Pokemon's HP is 10, it will become 11)

The max EVs you can earn for one Pokemon is 510, and a stat itself can have a max of 255 EVs. But wait! 255/4= 63.75, and the decimals won't be factored in, so why add the extra 3 points? That's also why most people do the 252/252/4 EV spread. The remaining 2 can be thrown in somewhere else since it won't do anything.

There are some EV boosters, and I'll list them out here;

Macho Brace: Doubles the EV gained.

Power Weight: Adds 4 HP EVs in a battle regardless of the EV the foe gives (i.e if you battled a Magikarp you will gain 1 speed EV and 4 HP EVs) It halves the speed of your Pokemon in battle.

Power Bracer: Same as above except it adds 4 attack EVs.

Power Belt: Same as above except it adds 4 defense EVs

Power Lens: Same as above except it adds 4 sp.attack EVs

Power Band: Same as above except it adds 4 sp.defense EVs

Power anklet: Same as above except it adds 4 speed EVs

**** Pokerus is a virus that your pokemon can randomly catch (very rare though) and it doubles the EV earned. So like if you have pokerus, and have a power anklet equipped and battle a magikarp, you can get (1+4) x 2 = 10 Speed EVs! ISN'T THIS AMAZING. ****

There are EV decrasing berries (for when you mess up your training somehow) but I won't list them here because I'm kinda lazy... orz

Also I won't talk about IVs cos I never really cared enough to bother;;; You can research it on bulbapedia if you want to though ^q^

Second question: What is an NU pokemon?

NU = Neverused. Its a term used for online battles... And it basically refers to pokemon that are never used (you know, like Magikarp)

Third question: How do you catch a shiny pokemon?

USE A POKEBALL.

Ok ok jk if you mean encounter one then....pure luck.
