Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, and Wii Sports Considered Violent Games

UK newspaper investigates guns and violence in best-selling games

Critics have been saying that violent video games have a negative impact on children for decades, but recent fatal shootings in the US have resulted in renewed debate on the topic. UK newspaper The Guardian has decided to investigate the issue by highlighting the violent content of the 50 best-selling games of 2012. As you might expect, titles likeCall of Duty: Black Ops 2Halo 4Far Cry 3 and Max Payne 3 are all mentioned, but the report also calls out releases such as Mario Kart WiiAnimal Crossing: New Leaf,Wii SportsMario Party 9 and New Super Mario Bros. Wii — not because they contain guns, but because they come with "Comic Mischief", "Cartoon Violence" and "Violence" warnings on their packaging, as specified by the ESRB. To be fair to The Guardian, the report is intended to illustrate a point — a worrying number of video games boast violence which is based around the use of deadly weapons, such as guns and swords. However, by trying to insinuate that family-friendly Nintendo titles are somehow harbingers of senseless violence removes some of the bite from the argument — in our opinion, at least. Perhaps the blame lies with the ESRB and the often misleading ratings given to totally harmless titles?

This is really bull crap. How can these games be "violent"? None of these people know what they are talking about. They are just making excuses to to make Nintendo look bad >_>.

But those are not violent acts at all. Okay sure hitting people with bug nets can hurt and is violent but it's not super violent like CoD. And how the heck is trapping animals in pitfalls violent?

Are they serious?????

What's violent about Wii Sports???? It's f.ucking sport that everyone in the world do.

What's violent in Animal crossing,a game where you build your own society.

Mario Kart is cartoony and that's how it work and believe me it's less violent than that piece of shit Spongebob Squarepants.

Why no one is complaining about the really super violent games like God of War,Call of Duty,Gears of War,DmC,Grand Theft Auto?????Those games are filled with 100% violence from beginning to end,why are they ignoring it and went to games that are not violent at all????Wii Sport is violent???? Really?????F.UCK ALL OF THOSE ASSHOLES

Do someone these days pay for dumbasses to make Nintendo look bad by any means????

I won't be surprised if it was the asshole Michel Pachter or Microsoft trying to empty the market for their always online Xbox 720

I'll support Nintendo until the very end and none of this bullshit will take me away from the company that built my childhood
