I wanted to talk about the "issue" I see with the trio's relationship together.

In Kingdom Hearts one what really grabbed me about the game was the relationship between Kairi and Sora, I loved the story. And now as we go into the second game I feel the relationship is ehh.

 

Lemme explain, in Kingdom Hearts two, when Sora finally meets Kairi, he is all shy and they hug, "Oh how cute" but I expected something more. ( A kiss maybe, or i'm thinking too far ahead ) And when he finds Riku ( Five minutes later) Sora falls to his knees crying while holding his hand. I find this to be an annoying story. I mean I get that Sora when to find Riku his best friend. But they make Kairi seem like a useless character and just a side by. "Oh Hai!"

 

Also when Kairi finds Sora under attack by the Heartless, she shouts for the heartless "too leave him alone". And then shes attacked yet again and is on the floor, reaching for Sora. Ansem ( Riku ) shows up destroying the heartless and lifting her, giving her a Keyblade?

 

Many problems there. I mean they show Kairi as being weak and afraid. Maybe fits with character. But what the heck. Its like a repeat of the first game but worse. And then a Keyblade? I'm iffy about it could be some information as in why she got the Keyblade but i'm not sure.

 

I would just like to see Sora and Kairi's relationship grow and be the amazing thing I dream of. I mean I love the game and it kills me when the plot, is messed up. ( From my perspective )

I also wondered how Kairi got to use a keyblade....she's one of the seven princesses though but i'm not sure if that's a connection...

 

Maybe in Kingdom Hearts 3 when they get older maybe Sora and Kairi's relationship will get deeper....I remember in KH2 credits seeing Ariel and his prince kiss so maybe them too in the future...who knows

 

But Riku might get behind they should give Riku a partner too...or not Riku's fine the way he is in KH2 though

no it wouldnt of been anything to do with the 7 princesses cause then they would all b able to use them but yh night walker might be right about KH3

I think the scene where Kairi's attacked by Heartless in TWTNW, it portrays her more as brave than afraid. I mean, she willingly jumped down to where the Heartless were to try and help Sora, even though she had no weapon to defend herself with.

 

True, that might be also considered 'stupid', but she had some guts doing that.

Everything about Kairi using the keyblade was discussed in an interview with Nomura in the BBS Ultimania.

Nomura said that when Aqua was holding her keyblade and when Kairi touched the keyblade with Aqua holding it, it started the keyblade inheritance ceremony, and thats why Kairi can use the keyblade.

Kairi touched Aqua's keyblade in BBS, which is the real reason why she can use the keyblade in KHII. When someone touches a master's keyblade or something they perform the "keyblade ritual" which grants them the power to use it ... or something. Thus, Kairi can probably use the keyblade by herself if she wishes to or realizes that she can. Also, I'm pretty sure "Kairi's keyblade" = the keyblade Aqua recieves in Radiant Garden. -- but I could be wrong about that last part.

 

 

I personally don't really see how Kairi isn't brave. I hardly think she's "weak" or anything either. In KHII she gives more brave attributes than she does cowardly. If she was too afraid to stand up to Axel, she would have ran the moment he appeared. Although you can argue that she was standing there out of fright, she stayed and listened to his words until the appropriate moment was given for her to run. In TWTNW she decides to JUMP from a high balcony in order to reach Sora and although many people would consider that act as "stupid," Kairi is still showing that she is brave by jumping in the first place, meaning she isn't weak. Anyone that was unarmed could have a hard time fighting even shadows probably if they were attacked by a mob. Also, the keyblade that Riku gives Kairi (the reason why she CAN USE IT is in the spoilers above) could signify that she wants to be brave and she wants to help so her ability to use the keyblade could have appeared in that moment.

 

But meh. I just don't really see her as a weak character.

I understand what your saying. Its just that I wish to see Kairi more uhm.. I really don't the word for it right now. I feel her character could be bigger? And better? Sorry I can get confusing.

Kairi was the main point in KH1 having Sora look for her and that grew the love story between them. In KH2, Kairi is supposed to be on Destiny Islands and goes on her own to look for Sora and Riku because "maybe waiting isn't good enough" so she leaves in search of them. He was more emotional seeing Riku than Kairi in WTNW because he was surprised to see Kairi and sad see Riku like that because Sora thought he was lost to the darkness. Since it's already established that Kairi is a princess of Light, her story doesn't have a lot more to grow from, but since she can wield the keyblade now she should have a bigger impact on the story.

i do hope kairi actually gets to fight in later battles

Personally, I agree with you. Sora's reaction to Kairi versus Riku was kinda... out there...

 

I understand that Riku was his best friend, too, and that he's been searching for him longer than Kairi because she was supposed to be safe on the island at the end of KH1, but falling on his knees and crying? That's a little over-board I think.

 

Although... that goes for great fan-girl SoRiku stuff. Sorry, had to add that.

I know, I know, they see him at Traverse Town and Hollow Bastion, but at TT, he was already turned half dark by Maleficent. In Hollow Bastion, he was completely dark. So those places, Sora never actually got to talk to the real Riku. (I know ANSEM isn't the real Riku, but he still had his same, beautiful Aura inside him.)

 

So it's a been a 2 years since he's been able to talk very socially with his very close friend.

I think he was more worried because he didn't know what happened to Riku after he was sealed behind the door to darkness in Kingdom Hearts 1. But then, after learning that Kairi was kidnapped and everything, he should have been a bit more relieved...IDK it was anticlimactic, but that's just how Sora and Kairi are in the end.

By the time SRK reunited Sora knew that Kairi was kidnapped by Organization 13 so you should change that statement.

I don't think it was a permanent keyblade.
