Hey there everyone, how's it going?  I know that the title of this thread is stupid, because we all know that every Final Fantasy game evolves in terms of combat and story, but it's something that I wanted to talk about anyway.  As we've noticed throughout the years, Final Fantasy has gone through a metamorphosis, from medieval era backgrounds to futuristic utopias.  Every Final Fantasy game is unique in it's own way, and if I may say so myself, the Final Fantasy fanbase is one of the most intriguing ever, seeing as how some people hate some entries while they idolize others.  I, myself, think that all Final Fantasy games are exceptionally well done, and they cater to the different tastes of different types of gamers.  For example, take the Final Fantasy XIII franchise.  Most people hate those entries, but I don't see why, because I've personally played XIII and XIII-2 myself, and in my opinion they are excellent games with intriguing stories and fun combat.  I also love the Dissidia series, which for some reason doesn't really get approval from others either.  Well, anyways, my point is that Final Fantasy is a series that is constantly on the move, and it makes changes for good or for worse.  Now the question is, after Final Fantasy XV comes out, which looks to be one of the best Final Fantasy games ever made and will probably destroy XIII, what will be Square's next step?  I know that they always have something up their sleeve, but you have to wonder how many good ideas they'll have, because as with everything, ideas are bound to run out sometime.  So, how do you think the series will evolve or should evolve?

My older brother says that after FFIX, the series kind of went downhill because there were no longer any Characters to play as that we could identify with.

The final fantasy series has always been ever changing, the characters were always relatable, but i guess that not everyone likes them as much as the old ones (granted 12 had an awful cast) and we can be sure the gameplay will continue to evolve.

Im hoping the future games either stay with the KH battle system, or go back to game mechanics of older games. Just as long as it backs away from what it did with FFXII and most importantly FFXIII. FFXIII was a horrible game. Terrible characters and playthrough value, with character customization set to a minimum, along with the worst lvling system in history. And dont get me started with gameplay. The foundations of its gameplay was built for retards(no offence). The game really was horrible and NO its not because I'm a fan of the other games, FFXIII really was just a terrible all-round. Maybe they should of made a movie with it but thats it.

 

So pretty much if future games dont stuff up like XIII then they should be fine.

I admit XIII was a little bad compared to the rest of the series. XIII-2 is alot better. LR FF XIII looks to be alot better too. You should give them a try.

 

I love the XIII games for what they are. The story, characters, and gameplay are great in my opinion, and seem a huge step UP from some of the other games(XII and IX come to mind). XIII was a little bad, mainly because of its hallway and linearity which was bad. But because of those, they were able to make a great, depthful story, which i liked. XIII-2 only improved on those qualities, and it looks like LR FFXIII will do the same.
