On Sunday, June 30th at around 11:45 PM, I was riding home on the Queens-bound F train following a day of LGBT Pride festivities. Two men were loudly making homophobic comments, such as “Today was a scary day for me. There were fags everywhere." When a group of queer youth got on the train, the men proceeded to harass them, stating that the teens made them want to puke and that they would be killed if they were in Iran. The first assailant then threatened to rape them, at which point I took out my phone to document the incident.

Seeing that he was being recorded, the first assailant lunged at me, violently grabbing my arms while trying to steal away my phone. One of the youth took the phone from me temporarily to protect it and told the assailant he shouldn’t attack a woman. When the assailant threatened to punch me, I took the phone back and ran to the other side of the train to push the emergency button and alert the authorities. At this point the second assailant got up and came towards me, grabbing my body and hands to try and get the phone to destroy the evidence. I yelled and told him I was an attorney. An onlooker then got up and stood between the assailants and myself, and another person left to get the train conductor.

A group of people had gathered to stand up to the gay bashers. During this, the second assailant put his hand around the neck of a young queer woman. When the doors opened up at the Roosevelt Ave stop, both assailants fled. I followed them to the station exit while calling 911. One witness had overheard them saying they were on route to Jamaica; they’re likely commuters who regularly take this route.

I uploaded the video to YouTube to see if anyone can identify these men. I was left with bruises and scratches from both assailants which I also documented. If anyone sees them or knows them personally, please contact the authorities. This was a hate crime.

I seen this on Tumblr a few moments ago, and I wanted to show you guys, if you see these men and/or know them, please report them.

Nope! Not in this context. Queer has been reclaimed by the LGBT* community and is used to describe people in the LGBT* community in a non aggressive manner. However, it is still very offensive to use queer as a slur to insult someone or in an aggressive manner. As well, is the language used by the video maker more important than the violent attacks by these men?

 

Also can't believe this shit went down. Hope they find those assholes.

This reminds me of this other video on YouTube of this guy chasing these 3 teens in the subway station I think. They were vandalizing in the train tagging, in other words spray painting graffiti

Not really, queer has undergone the same transformation as the N word. The group it was once used as a slur against can use it but other groups can't. Not fair but that's how it is. This woman may be homosexual herself, or she may just be a supporter. It seems like she was at the LGBT Pride event so she didn't mean it in a disrespectful way.

You may have. Even if the tech exists, their faces probably wouldn't be in the database unless they already have criminal records. Like fingerprints.

Please report him under 'Hate speech against protected group' and select 'sexual orientation'. Don't forget to paste the URL of this video in order to call the YouTube staff's attention to his comments and to write a note on the situation.

This is so fuçked. Who do they think they are? 'If you were in Iran you'd be killed' ya well you're in the 21st century  asshole and the world don't work the way you think it should. God I'd love if the Boys in Blue bate the shite out of them if they ever get their hands on 'em. I used to live near Jamaica, and later on went to collage in that area. I've seen stupid shit go down in the F line at Queens, as well as the last stops of the J, E, and F line. Coincidence, I think not. Good thing I don't go there anymore.

 

Idiotic people like these think they are all tough till you have back up and authorities coming, they go running thinking they got this. I can't wait till they get caught, which I'm faithful it will happen soon. Especially since I have a feeling those people use that subway line often.

NYC is known for having people with a lot of confidence, aka smug.

So we the combination of being moronic, an asshole and having smug leads the worst creation ever.

 

I live at Queens actually, it's pretty peaceful and nice here.

But the subways are always crazy and interesting.

But there's specific places where stupid things often happen. There's a few neighborhoods in Queens with different stupid things going on. Don't get be started on Brooklyn lol. Time goes so fast, yet some areas get better or worse.

I must be in the peaceful side of Queens (besides the double car crash that just happened 10 minutes ago) then. There are parts of Brooklyn where it is decent and not as dangerous as the other parts. But I think there will always be stupid people along with smart people, especially with a city with 10 million citizens.
