That's only a five year difference... my best friend's parents are 8 years apart and they've been married for 20 years.

I guess because they're at a mature enough age to make that decision, whereas an 18 year old has a clear defining amount of years of experience over a 13 year old and that just doesn't sit right with most people.

It's funny because at one point a lot of us were younger than most/all of the main characters.

It's not fair to the kid. Even now I'm only 17, but I'm still growing, learning. When I was 13-14 I would always fascinate about dating an older man, I thought how special and amazing it would be. Sure in fantasy-land that's great, but in real life it's not. I look back at my younger self now and I'm like "Wow, I was such a firetruckin idiot." While I agree "age is just a number" I ALSO agree that kids need time to grow without being bothered and manipulated by love and sexual desire. So age is just a number..If you're 18 and older. But I really think younger kids like me shouldn't be with, at least intimately, anybody who is way too older than them. Dating is fine but if they start bringing sexual relations into the equation...if the 18 year old really loved the 13 year old then I would hope that he/she would wait til their younger lover is a bit older than them
