Well as the title said,wouldn't it be nice?Espically for gamers(or people wanting to go to other countries but do not understand the language),we would finally be able to get all those japan exculsive games and you wouldn't have to learn any language in shcool so less subjects = less work,horray for everybody!I don't really see 1 negative at all.Except I guess translators might lose their job and well you can't talk shit about someone in other language but seriously I wish this would happen.I don't realy care what language would be the main one since everyone would probably have to learn it although if this were to ever happen it would probably be english but I don't mind since I speak it lol.I wouldn't mind if i had to learn another one either.What are your opinons on this and do you see anything like this happening in the future?

To me the next best thing would be if translators like google translate would have better translatons that are accurate and if and I'm not sure if this has happened already but um.... how do I say this...voice translations,you know it would translate what the person said for you and everyone should have one and be widespread like cellphones,I guess it could be linked over a network and it would have something like phone numbers and it was like a headset(so when you talk it could hear you probably) so if you had some "translation number"It would translate what that person said and then and then send it over the network so you could understand and I guess it would have some form of universal way letting someone know you want their translation number or something like that.Oops looks like I got carried away there hehe....anyway what do you guys think about my theory?

It's considered the most 'powerful' language, making it a super common language for business and the such, but as far as first languages go,  China's population is just so enormous that it outweighs the US, UK, and Canada's in a heartbeat.

Of course it would make a lot of things more simple and it would be great to be able to understand everybody with no problem. But then again, language is a huge part of a  culture and if you take that away, that's quite a lot taken away.

 

Also, there's the problem of which language would it be? English might be a good choice and a lot of people, even on non-English-speakin-areas would be just happy with it, but not everyone would. Of course not. Some people would be really pissed of it and not every country would agree to speak it and then it wouldn't be an international language anymore. And if it was some other language, it'd be just the same.

 

Of course a new language could be made, but also that would be made by people who speak only some languages and it'd be likely that the language would be more like those than the ones they don't speak. Like Esperanto was more like Spanish, Italian and English or something than Japanese and Chinese for example. So that language also would be easier to learn for some people than others and it wouldn't be completely unbiase (right word?) either.

 

Still, because the world is so international, it's important for a lot of peopl to be able to understand each other and I feel that a lot of business and other communication is made by English and I think it'll be even more important language in the future. And maybe some day it'll be possible that a lot of people speak English as a first language, or maybe as one of their first languages. Like how here in Finland Swedish speaking people learn Swedish as their mother language but learn Finnish very soon too because people use it a lot here.

 

I think it'd be good if there was a language a lot of people were able to speak but I don't want one that'd take away all other languages - because of the culture. And different languages sound different and it'd be shame if for example all songs were sang in English and I couldn't hear German and Japanese anymore. In my opinion languages are something that should be protected, not destroyed.

 

On Qi they said that it's believed the language of the future will be Panglish.  Panglish is the slightly off English, foreigners use when they are learning the language.  

 

"In the future a standard english will persist around the globe but it is likely that local variations will flourish too. . . . The English language, or portions of it, may be thought of as the essential component in a range of dishes to which flavours and ingredients have been added."

 

As the new language takes over, "the" will become "ze", "friend" will be "frien" and the phrase "he talks" will become "he talk".

Because English will adapt, the more foreigners who are using english as their learning and are using panglish (which is acceptable in my eyes I know I wouldn't pronounce things exactly right in someone else's language) will become the common denominator among people and they'll pass the way they speak english onto their kiddies

If globalization continues at it's current rate and isn't limited by a massive war or natural disaster, something that derives from English will most likely become the official language of the world. 

 

It's already happening in a lot of places. For example in the Philippines, the native language is merged with English and almost everything is written in English. 

 

The reason why we have different languages is because different cultures developed virtually independent of each other. Over the course of hundreds of years, technology in communications and transportation has been merging everyone together. 100 years ago it would be rare for someone to live in one town and work in another, now that's the norm. In fact, many people commute 50 to 300 miles every day to get to work. Give us another 100 years of technological improvement and it would be fairly common for someone to live in London, and have a short one hour commute to work across the Atlantic to New York City. 

 

More or less, English will become the language of the world when this happens, foreign language classes wouldn't be teaching German or Spanish, but rather some weird fusion of German and English or Spanish and English. 

 

While some fear this death of different and diverse language the end result would be much better. Everyone in the world being more or less on the same page with language would allow for unprecedented growth in economics, technology, and diplomatic relations.
