Close, but not quite. A Heartless is born when a person loses his/her heart to the darkness. But if that particular person had a strong heart, then a Nobody is born as well.

 

If someone with a weak heart became a Heartless, no Nobody will be born.

Agreed. If i recall, in Kingdom Hearts I, when you enter the 3rd district of Traverse Town, there is a guy you see lose his heart, and his body just disappears. So im guessing it just faded.

Well thats only because Sora had a very strong heart. Otherwise it would have just faded like the rest.

Sora had a strong heart. That's why he was able to produce a Nobody. If he had a weak heart, his body and soul would've just faded into the darkness like that guy from Traverse Town.

 

All Nobodies are born in an in-between world, hence, why Roxas was born in Twilight Town.

It takes a regular person with a regular heart to be split into Shadow and Dusk (general enemy examples, it could be a different heartless or nobody as well) but it takes a strong-hearted person to be split into shadow and INTELLIGENT nobody, one that retains its memories. Like Org. Xlll. Nobodies and Heartless were on forever since darkness existed, the intelligent nobodies were just....destroyed? In the past.

It is explained in-game that a strong heart is required to produce nobody, but if they have a REALLY strong heart, THEN we get the Organization.

Agreed. If i recall, in Kingdom Hearts I, when you enter the 3rd district of Traverse Town, there is a guy you see lose his heart, and his body just disappears. So im guessing it just faded.

 

His body properly just faded away to somewhere else and then created a Dusk or a Crepper...

 

Also Soras body faded away and his Nobody was created somewhere else...
