Hey everyone! I'm MDS Veritas and welcome to the sign ups for my new RP idea; Echoes and Ash. I've had the pleasure of being part of a lot of RPs here and I've even started a couple, and I've spent the last couple months thinking up an idea for a new RP. If the vague text above seems at all interesting, I'd ask you to maybe take a look at the RP brief, and, if you're interested in signing up, just reading the rules and filling out a form. The course of human history has always been a rocky one. The more technology and advancements that the human race creates the more potential for skirting a line of self destruction there is. The year is 2185, and humanity's reach has gone into the stars. Thousands of planets now act as humanity's home. New technologies continue to emerge; exciting, fascinating new inventions that could possibly revolutionize the life of every human. In fact, human-kind seems to be moving faster than ever. Much of this new-found speed is due to the abilities of SAs- the "sentient artificials"- which are human-built software-based intelligences with huge logic capabilities and built to replicate human thought as to work well with the scientists with whom they co-exist. A bright future lies ahead of the human race as star ships roam the galaxy, people live among hundreds of different planets, and the scientific horizons of humanity seem endless.

 

That was 2185. That was 19 years ago. That was when it happened. After coming so far human kind suddenly disappeared in a day without a trace. Trillions of souls gone in a heartbeat. The SAs in service went offline one by one until seemingly all were gone. The galaxy was completely silent, and not a soul knows why. However, for all the humans that disappeared on that day, some still survive. 200 years prior, a project began wherein select humans were cryogenically frozen and they were preserved secretly hidden away from the world. For 200 years the people of the early 21st century slept. They are about to be brought back, and it is up to them to find out what happened to the humans, and what dark force is behind it.

 

They fell asleep in a world of activity  and opportunity. They will wake in a world of Echoes and Ash, and they will not be alone.

 

Perhaps not all the SAs went offline...

 Sound interesting? Well then let me give you a rundown of the rules I have in mind and let you get to the character applications if you're interested!

 

• First and foremost; have fun! This is an adventure I hope everyone involved can go on, and that's what it should be all about; the thrill of discovery, the thought of piecing together a puzzle of history, and of course the unpredictability of getting to interact with other characters.
• One character per person. I understand that people like to create their own sets of characters to interact with each other but I'd like to push interacting with other players even more! If your character dies you do have the option to create a new one.
• This is what I like to think of as a "Miniseries" RP. By that I mean I have a distinct amount of things and places in this RP, it's not going to go on for a very long time and you don't have to dedicate a huge amount of time to it without much of a payoff. As such, if you apply, please try to stick with the RP.
• Be fair to other players. Your attacks need to be open for possible dodging and for the love all things good, please don't pull the "I teleport behind you" trick in every fight you're in. Make fights interesting, make them fair. There are going to be things you character can't do in this RP, and choices that have no right answer.
• I'm aiming for a certain amount of people in this RP, and while I think and hope we'll hit that, just so you know there's still a chance I may choose against starting it now if there aren't enough characters.

 

Sound good? Let's go right onto the character template then. The thing to remember, though, is that you're making a character from the present day, they simply wake up in the future. As far as weapons, get as sci-fi creative as you want, and I'll just check to make sure it's balanced enough to use.

Bio: Fed up with his ever-changing personality, Henko decided to partake in the experiment that would freeze him for however many long years, centuries, maybe even millennia. He didn't care whether or not he died in the process but if it did work, then hopefully he could get some help with his persona problem.

Appearance:

Weapon of choice: Grace and Brutality (two high tech bracelets colored red and black)
-Grace: Gauntlet-Swords. Twin blades that extend out along his knuckles, extensions of his arm pretty much. I may include a laser function.
-Brutality: Heavy hydraulic gauntlets. Powerful, earthshaking punches. Can be smaller for compressed impact or larger for wide range, heay hits. I may include mini rockets.

Ustilagor. Common name: intellect devourer. Their bodies are large, exposed brains with four protruding clawed legs. They are about the size of a large dog or wolf. They feed off the thoughts and emotions of their victims, making senses dulled and thoughts hazy, eventually leaving the victim an empty husk of their former self. Usually encountered alone or in mated pairs, but occasionally gather in packs. If threatened, they respond by leaping on their assailant, attacking with both claws and crippling mental blasts.

I'll post later tonight, maybe tomorrow morning at the latest. Anyway, from the beginning, the environments are oddly similar to the environments we originally woke up in at the beginning of the Experiment. Speculations have already begun...

BTW, perhaps I should have clarified this point, but DO NOT try to come into contact with people in other groups. I have no intention of giving any hints to the story this early on, but let's just say it's not exactly possible.
