The wind blew softly over the island. Besides the soft swaying of the trees there was little to disturb the idyllic serenity here. The island stretched out for miles, but at the coasts there was nothing to see but water. The island, like the universe in which it existed, was nearly empty, the remnants of life clung, decaying, to its shores and its trees and its fields, but the yells of excitement, of fear, of courage that has once complimented the sound of the wind ha since faded to echoes. Today, however, that changed. Today life returned to the universe. The only question is; what kind of universe would it return to?

"C'mon, get up!"

"All of you, wake up."

"Rise and shine, it's a new day."

Far away voices entered the hazy minds of those sleeping on the island.

Lying on the shore of a short beach was Seraphim Valentine, Derik Absolon, and Samantha Allison, and Rodin Seefull. The wind blew over them as they lay sprawled over the sand in close proximity to each other. Just as they had been placed. Next to the beach was a mix of jungle and swamp that went deeper into the mainland. Besides that the beach was mostly barren. A wrecked fishing boat was rusted and decaying within walking distance, but nothing more. The waves lapped up on the shore softly...

Lying in the middle of an airstrip surrounded by jungle was a different group. Rusted machine parts lay strewn about, and any sign of activity at the airstrip had long since faded. On the ground in the middle of the airstrip lay Alex Dimanche, Ferro al'Vere, and Hazimie Azhar Two desolate bunkers flanked the airstrip they were on, with a control tower at the end of the strip. Forest flanked the airstrip on all sides, with a single winding road leading out. The wind cut through the trees and sliced past the bunkers onto the airstrip. Only the wind and the trees provided any sound to the desolate military installation...

Deep in the jungle was a pair of rusted jeeps parked next to a crumbling house. The jeeps were long past functioning, and their engines were removed recently as well. The house sat surrounded by the trees with a single road leading somewhere further into the jungle. Inside the house were the four people; Rija Mors, Terry Frost, Henko Tenioenai, Koizumi Onnea, and Rin Nozomi Part of the roof of the house had caved in, and most of the belongings and furniture were gone. Remaining in the house were a few pots and pans, and single picture in an immaculate frame on a table in the room where the four people were laying. Silence pervaded the house...

The far away voices slowly awakened all of these people. The clouds in the blue skies above moved slowly; the morning was upon them. It was time to wake up and find the future...

(Sooory, I had relatives over at my house. Family dinner and all.)

Ferro looked down in amazement. The girl had managed to get behind his shield somehow. And now there was a gash. Rather a large one, too. Things looked bleak. Ferro slumped down by the table, his shield turning off. "A - Alex. Come h- here." Ferro pressed a button on the D-ppendage, and a holographic display came up. Unbind. The device split down the middle, revealing grey mottled skin.

(Now we wait for SIlver)

If only I had a bottle of rum. Or vodka. Damn do I miss a good shot of vodka. Alex thought, dropping his rifle and slid over to Ferro.

"Damn. You're..." Alex muttered, stopping himself from stating the obvious. His arm-pad still glowed from the various chemical formulas he had been running. "What do you need?" Alex asked, giving a short glance at the wound. It was ugly, and wouldn't heal easily. The world felt silent just for a moment, because Alex truly didn't know what to do. He felt a little useless, having done little since he met both Derik and Ferro. Maybe he would change that, later. He sighed, his mind swirling with the amount of complex things that had so suddenly started.

(I had a laughing attack reading that. You chose the perfect spot for that.)Rija put a hand on Rin's shoulder after Ferro fell to the table. "Stop. Now." Her voice was soft but still commanding. Rija looked to Ferro. The wound looked just as bad as the one that had originally sent her into cryo. Whether or not he could pull through would have to be figured out later. "I'm going through the door." Rija announced, glancing at Derik. "If that's the only way to earn some respect around here, than I'll take point." Rija turned around, hoping the best for Ferro and Henko. 'God, it'd be nice if you could help us out here. Guide us, give us a sign, something. Right now, all we're doing is killing each other. We just need some sort of guidance to help us get through this.' Rija prayed in her head before she even realized she was doing it. She continued walking to the open door to the primary lab, hoping her message got through. Soon, she was standing right in front of the door. She took a breath, and walked through the door.

(I saw on Blaxel's page that he had rediscovered Gizoogle, and I figured it would be a good way to lighten the tense mood.)

"Blind courage is not a way to earn respect from anyone, but all the same, good luck." Derik muttered. "Damn. One dead, one dying. The only way to save Ferro now would be emergency surgery, but I lack a nerve in my body that will obey me right now. "If you can get me the cure, I may be able to save Ferro. Alex, care for him as long as he can draw breath, keep pressure on the wound, but keep searching for a compound that may at least ease the effects so that I may move and preform emergency surgery on him and maybe keep him from dying."

Seraphim caught Rija's arm.

"I'm going with you " she asserted. "So help me a bit."

She stumbled after the woman, her ankle stiff and numb. She then groaned.

"We forgot about the damn Portal. And only Ferro can deactivate it."

Rodin shouts:  "Hey, did you forget about me Sera?"  He walks to her, saying:  "I might be throwing it out here, but you don't seem like in a condition to fight if there's any trouble on the way.  You both can use an extra set of help."  Rodin points a thumb to himself, smiling : "And I'm the help."

(Yaaaayy my Rin actually did something....)

Rin lowered Kutabare, making the sword vanish for now. She didn't say a word, and started fallowing Rija.

"Sorry Rija...." She muttered.

(Short post. Kill me now.)

(You still can't go through the door. The portal is still there.)

Ferro grasped Alex's right arm with surprising strength. He placed the D-ppendage over the arm and snapped it closed. "Take it. Have Rytt give you the boots when - when you get back to the ship."

Alex blinked.

"What?"

He blinked again.

"No. You..no. You...you can't be dying...dammit...I..I didn't even do anything.." Alex muttered, his face showing a mixture of surprise and guilt. "I barely got to know you, too. Damn.." Alex muttered. He felt terrible. He had done little during this entire mission, and now he felt as if that may have been the reason Ferro was here, talking as if he was going to die.

Ferro smiled at Alex. "Wear it with pride. Don't ever kill anyone with it. And use it to carry me into the next room." Ferro's eyes got a distant look. "I may not be able to do anything, but - but I'd like to see this through." Ferro turned to the girl who had slashed him. "I did mean to kill him. I c-can't lie about that." He grimaced with the pain of his side. "Let's g-go on ahead. Take down the portal, Alex. J-just think of it happening, and it will."

"Damn it... Ferro..." Rytt was for the first time seemingly speechless.

It was Elaryse who broke the silence.

"...Seraphim...." Elaryse's voice was totally different now. It was not commanding, or condescending. It sounded....

afraid.

"Did you say the name Vergyl?"

Rytt's voice followed suit in the same way. "She did. She did, didn't she? No... he must have. He sent them a message, he contacted them."

"He's here." Veridyan's voice had never sounded to vacant.

"Listen to me!" Elaryse was now speaking very quickly and fervently. "You have to watch out for him. You cannot trust Vergyl!"

"Oh no..." It was Rytt again. "It's not even here. The tracer. The tracer for Genesys isn't the machine. It's not the machine it's Vergyl. He lured us here."

"Get out!" Veridyan was back to being hyperactive, but this seemed to have a frightened twist to it. "Get out of the facility! He-"

The voice cut off. All of the voices cut off. That's when the voice was heard. It was not playful like Veridyan, sarcastic and clever like Rytt, or commanding like Elaryse. It was calm, nearly-emotionless sounding even.

"You want the cure? You want the truth? You want the answer to why your friends died and why you live in an empty universe? My name is Vergyl. Disable the portal, and step into the Primary Lab and I will make all clear."

"How far would you go to make life happy for people?"

"What would you be willing to sacrifice?"

"You damn robots think you have all the answers... You, if you exist up there, god, think you can plan out how this will end. Certainly, I am not one to follow that path, so, how about I just try a little harder..." Derik thought, pouring every ounce of strength he had in him still, what he had to do was get moving. "I don't care... If I'm... Not suppose to be able to mo-move... It's my fault that that guy died, it's my fault that doctor Ferro is dying... I won't stand for it... I won't just lay here uselessly..." Derik's body screamed at him, practically, almost as it defied his will to move like a child throwing a tantrum. "Damn it... I won't let this be... I was just trying to be the guy... who keeps everyone balanced, somewhat on the same side, and now look at what I've done. I've killed two without even trying! No more of trying to be what I thought we needed, now's the time to be what this group needs. And for that, I must move..."

Derik's body continued to defy him, but he refused to give up. "I... I will not... I will not abandon the human race, though they've abandoned me before." And though it didn't want to, a finger on his left hand began to shake violently, almost like someone undergoing a seizure. This vibration continued from down his finger into his body, down to the tip of his toes and back. "I will not allow any more death's! None but my own, if necessary!" Derik's arm moved, then his other, and next a knee and leg, and another, his body shook violently, riddled with pain in every inch, he cursed multiple times under his cold breath as he forced himself onto his knees and hands, his body felt like it had been stabbed with millions of micro-needles in every inch of his body; he screamed in absolute pain as he then tried to force himself up on his feet...(I'll let Veritas decide if Derik is able to get up or not. Your choice, RP master.

Hey! Shouldn't I be able to do it myself?

Normally, yes, but this isn't my RP and you don't have any of the superhuman powers that you would normally. If this were a normal RP, I would just have you assume Grey Reign form or just use an elixir stick to cure you instead.

Good point... Maybe we can...?

No! We're not making you OP, no matter how much I wanna.)

Rija looked around the room. The SAs had gone quiet. All that was left was Vergyl... And them. She hesitated, wanting to head back, run out of the cursed facility, go home. But home was gone. There was no direction left. It was either go through the door into the primary lab, or stall and die. Rija turned to Alex, the new wielder of the D-appendage. "Turn the portal off please." She asked.

Derik emerged on his feet for a moment, even with the pain and the paralysis. He had but a moment, though, before hit legs buckled under him, and gravity forced him to his knees again.

But he tried. If nothing else, he tried. Would his words and his determination cause anyone to help him or would he be left immobile. Now was the moment to work together or die.

(I may not walk, but I sure as hell will crawl!

No, no you won't.

Just WATCH me.

No, you won't.

Just WATCH ME.)

"God... Damn... If... If I have to crawl on my hands and knees... So be it..." Derik muttered, his energy being exhausted from the attempt alone was plenty. "I can't walk, so I guess crawling is my best option... It's better... than doing... nothing..." Derik thought, not expecting help from the others, he didn't care. "I made them all hate me so they had no reason to hate each-other. Humans need hate, it's a fundamental of the soul, so with nothing to hate at the moment besides whatever wiped humanity out, which we have no idea what it is, the hate would have probably tore the groups, individual or as a hole, apart, eventually."

Derik struggled, but he was able to crawl a small amount of space forward, actually nearing Henko's body. He took the dead person's gauntlet-ed hand, and gripped it firmly. "I'll take your responsibility for now on. I'll keep my eye on your girl over there, make sure she has a full life, unlike you. I promises to try and revive you, somehow. Your death was of my own fault, and that is a burden I will have weigh on me for the rest of my life. Next time, I won't take up a role that doesn't suit me... Maybe less people will die like that..." He thought, his body barely able to balance itself with just two legs and a wobbly hand. "And in the name of the gods, may you rest in silent peace." He muttered, placing Henko's hand down on his chest. "I wish I had his head, that way at least he could have died with it near his body..." Derik thought, then shuffling along a little, trying to near the door for when the portal was cleared, but at the rate he was going, he doubted that he would make it any time soon.

Rodin thought:  Vergyl? as he heard about the message , both through Seraphim and Vegyl himself.  He checked his left arm monitor for messages and found one.  From Vergyl.  After reading it, he said:  "I knew this Vergyl wouldn't be gone with a reason.", then thought:  I need to be careful on who to trust?  So we're going with this huh?  He then looked to Derik, watching him crawling and trying to reach the door.  Rodin walked to Derik, trying to help him up.  Rodin then says;  "Trying to do things on your own?  I can respect that, but you need help sometimes."

Alex became silent as he did as Ferro asked. "I'm...sorry....Derik." He muttered, "I'll...help you in a moment."  Alex looked at Ferro and created the portals just as Ferro asked. "I guess...you can't move very much." Alex said, looking to Ferro, "I don't want to hurt you be moving you at all.."

"It's my fault they're dead. I was trying to be the hard-ass no one liked, survival groups need one normally, or in most situations do, anyway. He keeps the others from getting annoyed and hating each-other, at least till it's over... And look where it ended us up in... One dead, one fatally wounded, me dying of paralysis, chaos everywhere, and what did I do? I caused it." Derik grimaced as Rodin helped him up. "I didn't like it, either. I came to the future to see if humans developed feeling other than hate, only to find them all gone... When I started being a jerk, I figured that everyone would just hate me, like they would have anyway if I were just normal me, so I decided to give them a reason, and figured no one would die, except maybe me, if anything...." Derik's legs tingled and rose with pain every other second. "I just wish I knew this would happen... I wouldn't have acted like that, maybe everyone would be alive..."

Rodin says:  "But that's the thing, no one ever knows what happens next.  No one person can see into the future.  I know you trying to help in your own way, but you can only do so much alone.  The 'hard-ass' thing you mentioned, it doesn't always work.  Half the time, being like that makes matters worse than they are.  Blaming yourself just makes you feel unnecessarily horrible.  All this killing each other  will ensure the human race won't survive.  We have to do the best we can on surviving by working together all at once.  Not one person doing everything, but everyone at the same time."  Rodin tries to think of something, and then says:  "I guess the best we can do now is forgive and forget what happened."

"It's still my fault they are gone, and that's not a crime I could ever let myself forget, it's stained in my head. I don't think the girl's mental sanity will be the same after that, she could literally snap at any moment and kill all of us..." Derik looked down. "All I have for my efforts to prevent death is a stack of body's piling up and debts to them all..."

"The man is right. The death was no one's fault. And mine will be no one's fault." Ferro looked next at Alex. "R-remember how I lifted that girl onto the table when s-she sprained her ankle? Do the same thing with me when we go into that room." Ferro gave a quick glance down at his wound and made another grimace. "Ah- and let's do it quickly."

"Okay, bad choice words on my part.  But if you still say it's your fault, then you might as well say it's the portal guys' fault too.  Since you can't forget it, than let it be an example.  An example to keep in mind.  Work hard to make sure things like that won't happen again."

"The fire of it still burns within me, scarring me. I can never forget a burn like this, which swallowed two and left me just grazed." Derik was struggling to move on his own, taking his armor off helped, though. He still had on the suit from the freezing chamber, save the fact it had a tear in it here and there, and was missing the end of one of his arms, but the lighter load mad it easier to move, at least. He took off the heavy boots as well. "If I'm to stop death it's self, I must be able to stand..."
