The wind blew softly over the island. Besides the soft swaying of the trees there was little to disturb the idyllic serenity here. The island stretched out for miles, but at the coasts there was nothing to see but water. The island, like the universe in which it existed, was nearly empty, the remnants of life clung, decaying, to its shores and its trees and its fields, but the yells of excitement, of fear, of courage that has once complimented the sound of the wind ha since faded to echoes. Today, however, that changed. Today life returned to the universe. The only question is; what kind of universe would it return to?

"C'mon, get up!"

"All of you, wake up."

"Rise and shine, it's a new day."

Far away voices entered the hazy minds of those sleeping on the island.

Lying on the shore of a short beach was Seraphim Valentine, Derik Absolon, and Samantha Allison, and Rodin Seefull. The wind blew over them as they lay sprawled over the sand in close proximity to each other. Just as they had been placed. Next to the beach was a mix of jungle and swamp that went deeper into the mainland. Besides that the beach was mostly barren. A wrecked fishing boat was rusted and decaying within walking distance, but nothing more. The waves lapped up on the shore softly...

Lying in the middle of an airstrip surrounded by jungle was a different group. Rusted machine parts lay strewn about, and any sign of activity at the airstrip had long since faded. On the ground in the middle of the airstrip lay Alex Dimanche, Ferro al'Vere, and Hazimie Azhar Two desolate bunkers flanked the airstrip they were on, with a control tower at the end of the strip. Forest flanked the airstrip on all sides, with a single winding road leading out. The wind cut through the trees and sliced past the bunkers onto the airstrip. Only the wind and the trees provided any sound to the desolate military installation...

Deep in the jungle was a pair of rusted jeeps parked next to a crumbling house. The jeeps were long past functioning, and their engines were removed recently as well. The house sat surrounded by the trees with a single road leading somewhere further into the jungle. Inside the house were the four people; Rija Mors, Terry Frost, Henko Tenioenai, Koizumi Onnea, and Rin Nozomi Part of the roof of the house had caved in, and most of the belongings and furniture were gone. Remaining in the house were a few pots and pans, and single picture in an immaculate frame on a table in the room where the four people were laying. Silence pervaded the house...

The far away voices slowly awakened all of these people. The clouds in the blue skies above moved slowly; the morning was upon them. It was time to wake up and find the future...

(Huh.  So that happened.  Hm.) Rodin saw missiles being launched and was ready to fire on them.  But they passed by him.  He thought:  They're heading for the others!, turned Lagann around and chases after the missiles.  He fired from the rail gun and took out most of them.  There was just one left, but the rail gun wasn't firing.  The word "Reload" came on Rodin's screen and yelled:  "Reload?!  Now you tell me this?!"  But he sees the last missile was obliterated by some kind of blast.  Staring at it, Rodin thinks: I need to DOOOODGE!!  He quickly flies down and barely escapes the blasts' path.  Blinking repeatedly, Rodin says:  "I guess someone has some Super Saiyin Swagger."

"Rodin, are you OK?" Derik yelled, though his attention stayed on the attack. His hair was spiking directly up, oddly. "I never knew how much energy this would actually take.. " he muttered, his body physically draining from the use as well.

After a minute of blinking, Rodin replies:  "I'm fine Derik.  But did you just pull off what I think you did?  I wonder if something's up with your hair or the power of what you did was over 9,000."

"I doubt it... But it would be quite awesome. Too bad, though. If I could do it again I would try the Super Kamehameha or maybe even the Instant Transmission one. Oh, well." Derik kid, but his body was really fatigued. The heat exaustes him to begin with, so the push that the beam had on him drained him. The one downfall of E.V.A was that it really drained the body.

(Well, Rytt and Elyarise are inactive, and if this is successful may be able to at least slow the last one down to a crawl.)

(Oh dear god....)

The Rex was hit directly by the huge energy beam from the E.V.A. "Damn... you're... pretty freakin' stubborn, aren't ya?" Veridyan seemed almost joking. The Rex had now a gigantic jagged wound across it's hull.

All of the three capital ships now sat motionless. "Guess I shouldn't have underestimated your power." Veridyan noted. "Just sayin'"

It seems like they could do it then. They could make it to Genesys, stop all this. But that was when the energy started amassing. While the cores of each independent ship began to emit a concentrated energy that amassed between them.

"I know..." Elaryse was serious now. "I know you think you're doing good. But to bring back the humans as they were, in that number, you will doom this galaxy to another extinction event."

The energy was amassing between them, but it seemed controlled. The cores themselves were interfacing with one another, and using their gravitational systems to pool the energy in a single spot... where it could then be fired.

"Ferro... Alex... the rest of you." Rytt seemed tired. Tired and sad. "We didn't want to, you know, but the fact is that regardless of the pain, we did what we needed to at that time. Please... do not bring back that level of humanity. Human beings are perhaps the most amazing race I can imagine, but I cannot bear the pain of seeing something like that play out again."

"It just..." Veridyan this time. "It just ain't no fun, you know?" The huge ball of energy pooled between them- it seemed like it may act as a sort of bomb. The spirit behind the actions of the three had drawn them here. One final attempt. And it may just work. The energy sphere was growing more and more, and the gravitational pull from it made it extremely dangerous to get near.

"So, last humans, what do you choose?" Rytt asked. It was not sarcastic, nor angry, nor fierce. It was a simple question, in the midst of the most complicated choice to make yet.

"My choice is to let them stand or let them fall. Like they should have been allowed to do in the first place. I won't bring them all back, not at once, at least. I'll bring back a few, let them try and survive, try and thrive. If they fail, onto the next human's... Even if it seems heartless, that's all we can do. Humans can be great beings, with guidance. With the right ammount of luck. With a little care." Derik muttered. E.V.A. had little energy left, but he knew what he had to do. He opened the vents in a way to force him over to Rija"s mech. His body ached as he grabbed it, and had the video comm show him her face one last time. "Rija. Live, live for me. When you make it to Genesys, make a new body for me, and I'll find my way to it." He said, extracting a small ammount of his blood and sending it to her, he then summoned all the strength he had left, and threw her mech to the landing platform to safety. "In the next million years or so, maybe my actions will be remembered, but my love for you maybe not. Even still, though. That will never change how I feel about you. Not when time itself ends will my love for you change. So live. If I luck out of this somehow and live, I'll see you there." Derik said, reaching out to his love. "I won't stop trying, not ever...." His voice stopped broadcasting as E.V.A. went offline. He put his armor back on and his helmet on so he may breath. "I'll never stop loving you..."

Ferro sensed an incredibly large amount of energy being gathered between the SA flagships. He closed the doors and accelerated the elevator down the shaft. Faster than it was supposed to be moved. So fast the Alex was thrown upward and held against the ceiling. Near the bottom, Ferro slowed the elevator so that Alex's landing was soft-ish. Then he retracted his data down the shaft. He quickly began racing through the computer systems to find the virus he needed. "Alex! Get Genesys up and running!"

(Oh dear god....)Sure why not.

(Is it time to pull a Heero and have Sera return)

Rija blinked awake. She realized that she must have blacked out when it hit one, something about the body anticipating intense pain and shutting down early. She looked around, and everything seemed to come into focus. How did she live? Then she heard Derik's voice again. Had Derik survived? Slowly, she began to tune in. Wait... Derik was dying again?! Rija shot awake, fully aware of her surroundings. She booted Gypsy up fully, looking around. She spotted E.V.A. and Derik. They were floating away, seemingly drained of energy. "Wait!" she choked out, though her own microphone systems were still offline. Derik cut out. She swore loudly, but no one heard it. She had survived one hell only to get to another. Clearly she hadn't died and gone to heaven. Rija took a moment to process. If she had survived the first time... then maybe she should try and live for his wishes this time. The soldier grasped the blood sample, and exited the mech. The soldier ran into the station. She sprinted down stairs, no elevator. The girl run all the way until she found Alex. Barely panting, the girl spoke. "Let's go."

Derik reached out to his love, and dispare filled him. The core was starting to build its energy back, but it was a slow process. The repair systems were cutting into his transmission abilitys, so he simply used his wrist comm to try and communicate with Rodin. "Rodin... If you can manage, get over here to E.V.A.. I might just have one more plan.

The water broke above her, waves crashing against Wing. As the crest broke against the solid gold-colored metal V on the head, Sera kicked the boosters, stuttering them to break from the water's grip.

She broke free, and headed spaceward.

Exiting the atmosphere was like a sauna. Not fun at all, but as she drifted towards the Beacon, she started a scan. The remains of the three warships...there...

Powering forward, she found what she wanted - the smaller laser cannons that had sheered off. Only about five were intact out of a couple dozen, and she gathered any unexploded missiles that had fallen. Manipulating the hands, she created crude, but somewhat working, funnels. The process took forever as she had to go EVA and do some finer points, but she needed them done.

About ten minutes later, having cheated in every way possible and sure they all would explode easily, nor have real good manuevering, she hooked them onto her AP and again took the seat.

"WARNING: WATER DAMAGE CRITICAL"

She sighed softly. "I know."

She powered towards the Beacon. "Vergyl, if you can hear me, I need the beacon activated. Don't let them know I'm coming, they might be able to intercept. I don't know where I am needed...I don't know if I'll make it...so...send me where they'll need me."

As she drifted closer, Sera embraced the notion she'd probably die.

Her odds were better already.

Manipulating her funnels, she started to tinker, crudely, trying to make them more stable. Ten minutes was not good enough, that was sure.

(MDS, go ahead and have the Beacon shoot her there when it's time.)

Ferro sensed Rija at the top of the elevator shaft. He sent the elevator up for her, once again at high speeds. "Get in and brace yourself!" Meanwhile Ferro continued to race to find the virus. He had narrowed its location down to several hundred folders. . .

Alex was close. Close to this 'Genesys' machine. He got up, shaking as he started moving forward. In a few moments his movements returned and shortly he began to run down the corridor. This could very well be the end. But what would happen after that? Alex gulped, and continued running. He ran through the corridor, waiting to see what he would find...

Rodin listened and said:  "Alright, but you might want to make it quick."  He directs Lagann to E.V.A's location and flies towards it.  Then out of nowhere, Rodin thinks:  Huh.  I have this assuring feeling that Sera is still alive.  I don't know how I know this, but I just do.  When he makes it over, he asks Derik:  "Okay, what's your plan man?"

"I think if I can jumpstart by AP, we can get away. I'm going to just borrow your energy for a moment..." Derik lept out of the cockpit of the mech, his armor held his body tight ad he flew over and unhooked a cable in the neck of Rodin's AP. He then dragged the cord over to E.V.A., an hooked to a small adaptor on it, then pulled a wire from E.V.A. and clipped one side onto a adaptor piece on the neck, and the other on the metal of the armor he wore. The electricity tingled intensely through him until E.V.A. went slightly bright again, like a kickstart from a car, Rodin's mech gave a surge of energy to E.V.A. and got its core working again. Derik repleaced the wires in their proper areas, then returned to his cockpit. jt was running extremely low, but in this time, the boosters were back to fifty percent. "Rodin, throw me as hard as possible at the landing point, I'll get into the Knightmare and bring up it's energy shield to try and help us, I know it won't be much help, but it will give us a window of escape to make it... "That doesn't sound reassuring."  Rodin says jokingly.  He then says:  "But Alright, I'll give it a go."  Rodin had Lagann put its hands at E.V.A's sides and got into a throwing position.  Looking at Laganns' lowered energy level, Rodin says:  "Better hope this works."  Lagann winds back and throws E.V.A, having its feet facing the landing point.

E.V.A. zoomed through space, barely making a successful landing, Derik quickly gets out, then goes into Knightmare, then moves it over to E.V.A., picks it up, then moves back to Rodin as fast as possible. He then hooks many cables between the three mechs, and lines them behind each other, Knightmare moved in front of Rodin's mech and E.V.A. did so as well. "Okay, we're almost there..." Derik mumbles. "Rodin, don't move." He say's into the comm, before programming the shield and using the three Mech's combined energy to increase the size of the shield with a little work, though it was not by much. "If I'm able to, this will allow Knightmare to absorb as much energy as possible and shield us, in return, it will fill us both up full of energy and with me behind you, I'll apply all force to the boosters I have in E.V.A., detach from Knightmare, and hope we can speed past the attack that is incoming..." He muttered. "Rodin, use the hacking tools Sera gave you to set the shield to auto detect the frequency of the wave and tune accordingly, keep your boosters warm just in case." He then got an ounce of inspiration. "Can the Laggen let go of the drill? If so, we may be able to buy ourselves even more time, if I can do what I think I can."

"I'm on it." Rodin says and gets to work.  He taps onto his wrist-pad and saw the hacking tools were good to go.  He starts hacking into Knightmares' shield and sees if it works.  After rearranging some codes, adding some encryptions and extra protection, Rodin set the shield to auto-detect.  He also turned on Laganns' boosters as a precaution.  After all the preparations were done, Rodin says:  "Alright, everything is done, up and running.  Oh, about the drill, it's a no go.  It's built into Lagann's right arm and can't be removed. But I can retract it at any time."

(I wonder....is that supposed to refer to a certain drill related attack from a specific anime?)

As Alex reached the door at the end of the door, it opene suddenly. The next room wasn't very large, but looked terribly important. Servers lined every wall, and were placed on tables and control panels all along the room. In the very center of the room was a small device, the one they had seen in the video when the SAs had destroyed the human race. It was just sitting there. This was the Y-Class SA control room, and the device before him was Genesys. There were no other doors in the room. This was the end of the line. No more moving forward, now it was just about making a choice. Rija wasn't far behind, and her elevator reached Earth soon after, she could see Alex in the room on the other side of the long corridor from her.

"Leave it alone for now... please" Elaryse sounded disconcerted as her transmission was sent to the others. "If you plan to destroy us and bring back the same issues that nearly destroyed everything years ago... that... that cannot be allowed, I'm sorry." The huge energy sphere was reaching enormous levels between the three ships. It looked like it was only seconds away from firing... the lab at the bottom of the space elevator where Rija and Alex were came into focus for the three SA ships....

Seraphim then shot through behind everyone, propelled by the beacon on the other side of the galaxy. "Do what you can." Vergyl's voice transmitted to her wrist console. "I've offered all the help I can offer, it is up to you all to do what may have to be done. Hurry. Please."
