The wind blew softly over the island. Besides the soft swaying of the trees there was little to disturb the idyllic serenity here. The island stretched out for miles, but at the coasts there was nothing to see but water. The island, like the universe in which it existed, was nearly empty, the remnants of life clung, decaying, to its shores and its trees and its fields, but the yells of excitement, of fear, of courage that has once complimented the sound of the wind ha since faded to echoes. Today, however, that changed. Today life returned to the universe. The only question is; what kind of universe would it return to?

"C'mon, get up!"

"All of you, wake up."

"Rise and shine, it's a new day."

Far away voices entered the hazy minds of those sleeping on the island.

Lying on the shore of a short beach was Seraphim Valentine, Derik Absolon, and Samantha Allison, and Rodin Seefull. The wind blew over them as they lay sprawled over the sand in close proximity to each other. Just as they had been placed. Next to the beach was a mix of jungle and swamp that went deeper into the mainland. Besides that the beach was mostly barren. A wrecked fishing boat was rusted and decaying within walking distance, but nothing more. The waves lapped up on the shore softly...

Lying in the middle of an airstrip surrounded by jungle was a different group. Rusted machine parts lay strewn about, and any sign of activity at the airstrip had long since faded. On the ground in the middle of the airstrip lay Alex Dimanche, Ferro al'Vere, and Hazimie Azhar Two desolate bunkers flanked the airstrip they were on, with a control tower at the end of the strip. Forest flanked the airstrip on all sides, with a single winding road leading out. The wind cut through the trees and sliced past the bunkers onto the airstrip. Only the wind and the trees provided any sound to the desolate military installation...

Deep in the jungle was a pair of rusted jeeps parked next to a crumbling house. The jeeps were long past functioning, and their engines were removed recently as well. The house sat surrounded by the trees with a single road leading somewhere further into the jungle. Inside the house were the four people; Rija Mors, Terry Frost, Henko Tenioenai, Koizumi Onnea, and Rin Nozomi Part of the roof of the house had caved in, and most of the belongings and furniture were gone. Remaining in the house were a few pots and pans, and single picture in an immaculate frame on a table in the room where the four people were laying. Silence pervaded the house...

The far away voices slowly awakened all of these people. The clouds in the blue skies above moved slowly; the morning was upon them. It was time to wake up and find the future...

Derik was shocked when she kissed him, he was taken aback. He almost fainted from the surprise, but he was able to come to reality long enough to hug the girl who was the first to care for him in the midst of this act. The moment was almost frozen in his mind; euphoria, peace, something to be described as love maybe. He didn't know. All he knew for those short seconds was the embrace and the kiss, that's all. When it was over, Derik shuttered a little, before responding. "You can't go dying on me, either..." Derik said, his voice-though still shakey from the events-was gaining a new-found confidence. "I... I guess we should head back in..." He said, gesturing to the door.

A mechanical arm came down and retrieved the small device where Ferro's consciousness. It placed it inside a small data slot, and the data was moved along several wired at a nearly instantaneous speed. It was then downloaded into the AP model Knightmare.

"The Wing does not transform I'm afraid." Vergyl said without emotion. "And no other working APs or effective ship models are in the area. You are correct in suggesting that a diversionary tactic would be greatly useful, but you would be... severely outmatched if you so choose that decision."

Four panels lit up in the room. "This are in fact small moving platforms that shall transport you all to the designated AP you've chosen. I understand the desire you all have for your love and companionship. I was made to understand feelings like that above all else. Right now, though, we must fight for the future we desire." The first panel suddenly showed a hologram of AP Codename Wing on it. The second panel was Lagann. The third was Gypsy. The fourth was E.V.A.

"Step onto the panel of your chosen AP. And the platforms will move you directly to where you will enter the APs. This is where your desire for companionship and peace will be tested. It shall not be an easy test. Once you step onto these platforms and go to the hangers, my com disruptive won't work, and the other SAs will surely contact you. Beware, and be ready."

The panels sat before them all in the room.

To Ferro the Knightmare suddenly started up. He could see. He could hear, he could move even. Mostly. The Knightmare's legs were locked into the deployment rail system that would shoot it out of the station into space. He could move it's arms though, and intrinsically he could feel his own ability to communicate with whoever he wished through communication systems which felt like they were built into his consciousness. He was the equivalent of an SA now...

Edited by MDSVeritas

Ferro felt what seemed like water rushing past, then sensation slammed him in the face. If he could be said to have a face. Ferro felt every single part of Knightmare. He felt every single part of himself. He saw everything, heard everything, felt everything, all at once, as if for the first time. He also felt the ability to communicate with any technology. I'm an SA now. . . Ferro reached out with his newly expanded existence and spoke through Alex's holo-comm. "Alex, come over to Knightmare. You will be safe with me." Ferro wasn't sure what his voice would sound like, but he could tell it sounded like his regular voice. Then he remembered he could move. He lifted up the massive silver left hand and curled the fingers. His fingers. He ran checks of every single system in Knightmare, putting up firewalls and changing functions almost instinctively. And Ferro knew he would be safe now. He had to be.

"Mm?"

Alex blinked. Had he fallen asleep? Last thing he remembered was Vergyl explaining things, and having helped Ferro get to a table. Perhaps the exhaustion and worry had been too much, and his body gave out. He probably hadn't in a long while. But he had awoken to something blaring over the comm, and Alex blinked several more times as his brain registered who it was.

Ferro.

"Holy...sh.." He muttered, "I..uh..sorry. If you head that. I'll be right over. I'm caught up, I guess...I just needed a breather. I'll be there in a moment."

"All righty." Ferro responded. Actually, he knew he would be able to hear everything anybody said into their comm devices. Ferro stood there tapping his foot, going through Knightmare's systems. If he adjusted the shield's frequency in this way, he could cause it to absorb energy that came into contact with it. Hmmm. He tried out the scanning systems. He noticed a bug scuttling across the floor. He could tell its exact velocity and size. "Hey Derik, these robots are beauties. Which one are you in again?"

Derik was still standing near the door, gesturing to Rija to enter first when Ferro's voice pumpped out of his comm, though partially broken in sound. "Uh... I'm in E.V.A., I think..." He said. "Ferro, h-how dose it f-feel?"

"See Sera?  Even though Vergyl didn't directly say it, distracting the SAs is a bad idea.  But if that still won't change your mind on your plan, then maybe I should go."  Rodin said with concern.  Pausing for a minute, he says:  "Okay.  Alright Lagann, here I come."  as he walks and steps unto the second panel to Laganns' hangar.  While rising up to the cockpit, Rodin said:  "I don't want anyone else to get inside Lagann or anything else related to transportation."  Walking inside and sitting in the cockpit, Rodin looked around.  He then thought:  Huh.  I shouldn't be surprised, this is advance stuff.  Now to examine everything in here."

Rija smiled at Derik as she entered the room, in time to hear Vergyl. She listened carefully, before giving a slight salute to the SA. Rija walked over to her own panel. She was ready. No regrets now. Rija had found her love, almost like a fairy tale. Except in fairy tales, the prince and princess don't go out in super mechs to save the world after confessing their love. She almost laughed as she thought of it like that. Rija was hopeful that they would survive, especially after promising not to die, but she never knew what would happen next.

"Bad ideas are what created the world as we see today. Rodin. Promise -" she was whisked away to Wing, where she settled inside. "Promise me you'll go to Earth with the rest. Promise me you'll go. D...don't disrespect my decision Rodin. I'm begging you not to."

As Wing booted up, turning on and initializing everything.

As she closed her armor's comms, she closed her eyes. Seraphim breathed easily.

"Vergyl. I'm sorry. I don't want to kill you...the virus can't be aimed at Rytt, Verydian, and Elaryse specifically?" She asked, the suit's systems adapting to her own preferences as she concentrated. "And I need those schematics. You have to have their ship's schematics somehow."

Alex walked up to Knightmare, and looked at the machine before him. "Uh..woah." He mumbled, slightly surprised at its size. "Any way I can climb into this thing?" Alex asked, lifting his com piece to his lips in order to ensure that Ferro heard him. "Certainly lives up to its name. Knightmare. Seeing this thing on the battlefield would give anyone a nightmare. Assuming they live that night, that is."

Derik walked in right after Rija, and walked onto his pannel. "If anyone dosen't have a ride, I am willing to let you hitch a ride..." He was practically on cloud nine, his heart was beating fast as as a humming birds wings as he waited. He wanted to go back and at least hug Rija once more, just so he could remember the thought of someone who cared again before they went out, but it gave him a reason to make it for sure, and he hoped that Rija felt the same. He still felt a little of the warmth and the tingle of the kiss on him. His heart still fluttered as he waited.

"I can hear you fine, Alex. You don't need to be that close. A data stream is a data stream, no matter how strong it is, and I can amplify it however I wish." Funny, doing it seemed second nature to Ferro. He reached down with his large hand and gently grasped Alex, lifting him up to one of the secondary cockpits. Ferro had also been listening to Seraphim. He easily bypassed the comm lock and spoke into Seraphim's mech. "He cares about you a lot, but you probably already knew that. I'll tell you one thing. The reason I'm still alive is because somebody cared about me."

Seraphim smiled to herself.

"That's why I will return." She paused. "I made him think I didn't like him that much. Ferro. If I do die...tell him, one day, I did so to soften the blow." She paused. "I just sent you a message. In the event I in fact die and you inform him of my previous statement...give him that." She laughed. "Don't read it."

Seraphim gripped the controls again. She was ready.

"Forever always ends...eternity always begins..." she whispered to herself.

Ferro stowed the message in a small data pocket and layered it with a few firewalls. At a basic binary level, Ferro felt the paradox of Seraphim's last statement as illogical, but at the level of self, he understood what she was saying. It was a sort of strange duality to his new existence. He had emotions, but they were comprised of almost unnoticeable blips of black and white. Right now he was feeling. . . Ferro wasn't sure. He made a few last adjustments to Knightmare and sent a data packet to Vergyl signaling he was ready. Much faster than talking.

Three consoles faced Alex as he settled into the second cockpit. They were advanced and glowed with an eerie light, with the center console have a near-clear panel that had a touchscreen panel. It had several gauges and a motion sensor, which held the data for everyone in a kilometer radius. The other two panels were mostly throttles and buttons, among other details.

"This is amazingly sophisticated. I feel like I'm operating a fighter jet....give me say, ten minutes, and I can work this out."

"Maybe you should leave the giant robot flying and fighting to me, Alex. Unless there is some kind of weapon that can be fired autonomously from the rest of me. Did I just say me? I meant the robot." Woah. That was weird. "Hey, Vergyl, any chance we could do a last minute installation of a small turret?"

"I guess it would be creepy if I had control over your technical 'body'." Alex replied, "But just sitting in here with nothing to do is boring. I couldn't even use the sensor--I'm sure your own integration is far faster than the panels I have before me."

Alex sighed, leaning on his arm as he tapped his finger against the edge of the left panel. He was a man who loved challenges and quick thinking; not sitting in a metal can and watching things explode around him. "I don't wish to complain, I just don't feel comfortable sitting around anymore."

"Well, how do you think I feel when I don't have any control. I was stuck in that black box for at least a minute, you know." Ferro went silent for a few seconds, during which he was furiously hammering out a new UI for Alex's consoles. "This robot has the ability to absorb energy through its shield and return it as a powerful pulse. I'm putting you in control of piloting the robot, but when it comes time for attacking, I'm going to take over." Ferro displayed the new UI on the console screens. It was much simplified, unifying many functions in single controls.

Rodin started fiddling around with all of Laganns' systems.  He checked on vitals and it turns out fine.  Weapons ready for combat on the outside.  Visuals were up and running.  If he missed anything else, he was sure Vergyl would tell him.  Seeing everything he could was okay, Rodin thinks:  Okay.  Everything looks fine and ready to go.  Hm.  I want to talk with Seraphim one more time before heading out.  He tried contacting with Seraphim, but couldn't get anything through.  She must have shut off or blocked her communication systems.  I could guess why she did.  Looks like I can't talk with her.  Wait!  I can hack into her systems.  Time to try it out.  With his newly received tool, Rodin start hacking into Seraphim's communicator.

After clearing through some cybernetic routes and security systems, he got through.  Before he could say anything, he heard Seraphim talking with Ferro.  Rodin couldn't say anything after hearing everything they said.  He quickly put the systems back to what they were and shut off his communication and hacking systems, making sure neither of them knew Rodin was accidently eavesdropping.  Taking all of the information in, Rodin thought:  So that's why Sera said those things.  Heh.  Guess she doesn't know enough about me.  If I did or didn't hear about anything of that, it wouldn't change how I feel about her.  More especially if anything tragic happens to her.

Rija descended into the hangar. She could see Gypsy, her AP of choice. She smiled slightly. 'Definitely making it back to Derik with this many guns.' She thought to herself. Rija climbed into the cockpit. She flicked the on-switch, and the mech booted up. The consoles lit up around her, many dials and buttons glee in the dark cockpit. It took her a couple seconds to understand how to pilot the robot. She may not be very smart, but she knew how to pilot a war machine, and those were all basically the same. Forward, point, shoot. Rija switched on the intercom. "How y'all doing?" She asked the other pilots.
