The wind blew softly over the island. Besides the soft swaying of the trees there was little to disturb the idyllic serenity here. The island stretched out for miles, but at the coasts there was nothing to see but water. The island, like the universe in which it existed, was nearly empty, the remnants of life clung, decaying, to its shores and its trees and its fields, but the yells of excitement, of fear, of courage that has once complimented the sound of the wind ha since faded to echoes. Today, however, that changed. Today life returned to the universe. The only question is; what kind of universe would it return to?

"C'mon, get up!"

"All of you, wake up."

"Rise and shine, it's a new day."

Far away voices entered the hazy minds of those sleeping on the island.

Lying on the shore of a short beach was Seraphim Valentine, Derik Absolon, and Samantha Allison, and Rodin Seefull. The wind blew over them as they lay sprawled over the sand in close proximity to each other. Just as they had been placed. Next to the beach was a mix of jungle and swamp that went deeper into the mainland. Besides that the beach was mostly barren. A wrecked fishing boat was rusted and decaying within walking distance, but nothing more. The waves lapped up on the shore softly...

Lying in the middle of an airstrip surrounded by jungle was a different group. Rusted machine parts lay strewn about, and any sign of activity at the airstrip had long since faded. On the ground in the middle of the airstrip lay Alex Dimanche, Ferro al'Vere, and Hazimie Azhar Two desolate bunkers flanked the airstrip they were on, with a control tower at the end of the strip. Forest flanked the airstrip on all sides, with a single winding road leading out. The wind cut through the trees and sliced past the bunkers onto the airstrip. Only the wind and the trees provided any sound to the desolate military installation...

Deep in the jungle was a pair of rusted jeeps parked next to a crumbling house. The jeeps were long past functioning, and their engines were removed recently as well. The house sat surrounded by the trees with a single road leading somewhere further into the jungle. Inside the house were the four people; Rija Mors, Terry Frost, Henko Tenioenai, Koizumi Onnea, and Rin Nozomi Part of the roof of the house had caved in, and most of the belongings and furniture were gone. Remaining in the house were a few pots and pans, and single picture in an immaculate frame on a table in the room where the four people were laying. Silence pervaded the house...

The far away voices slowly awakened all of these people. The clouds in the blue skies above moved slowly; the morning was upon them. It was time to wake up and find the future...

Rodin sighed to relief himself of some tension.  He thinks:  Okay.  No need to get worked up over useless stuff.  Focus on something else that'll cheer you up.  I know!  The fact that you're in a giant robot mech like you always dreamed of doing!  That's best and perfect thing to get excited on!  Rodin turned on his communications and hears Rija on the intercom.  With excitement, Rodin says:  "Hey there!  This is Rodin in Lagann.  Since I'm inside a robot mech, I'm pumped up and great!  All ready for some action!"

"I'll make it. I have to." He muttered, descending into E.V.A., he got into the cockpit, which immediately asked him to remove his equipment, which he did. Immediately, a black suit with a red anvil on the chest instantly grew.over his skin. "Like a G-Gundam suit..." He muttered, streatching his body out a little, the suit formed well to the body. He picked up his sword, and mapped it ad a phisical form of the dagger, then stowed it on his back. "Derik in and ready to go." He sounded off. He tested the phisical strength by preforming a few punches with the bot. It had a feeling of power to it. He then turned the link off, opened a pannel underneath and found a few Comm's. He replaced his old one and placed one on the suit he had on then reactivated the suit then readied himself for launch.

Seraphim settled back into the command seat. It was like the Unicorn Gundam's, but felt like Wing Zero's.

"I'm only a crack...in this castle of glass...hardly anything else...I need to be." She sung softly.

She was ready to die.

"Rodin...I'm so sorry."

"Initialization setup complete" Vergyl said. "When you get the chance to insert the virus, think nothing of me. I am a being built for others, that is where I attain what you refer to as happiness. In any case, it must be done. Alex, I've installed a small secondary targeting system for which you can release small concentrated bolts of energy stored in the Knightmare. It's a useful secondary weapon and you shall have control over it if and when Ferro takes control of the Knightmare itself."

The rail systems that all of the APs were on suddenly shifted and moved. "Hold on." Vergyl instructed. Suddenly each one was propelled forwards down the huge hangar. AS the moments ticked by it became obvious that the hangar was actually tilting... upward. All five reached the hangers exit at the same moment, and shot through the stormy weather in moments. It had barely been a few moment before they were all outside of the planets atmosphere. Several space stations loomed, a huge station- what was known as the beacon, the means for faster than light travel, wasn't far from.

Neither were the three ships.

"He..." Rytt trailed off in a moment. "You met Vergyl I see. He... changed you mind?"

"I knew he would." Elaryse sounded slightly annoyed, but less than usual for some reason.

"He didn't understand you know..." Veridyan was sad.

The three ships were positioned near the beacon, which is what they needed to get near to initiate a jump to earth.

"You're going to try to shut down our systems, right? And I'm betting he told you where Genesys is..." Elaryse said with little emotion. The tenseness was palpable.

"You know what? Shut up, you damn bitch made of bolts." Derik said calmly. "I never liked you, even when I was acting, behind the scenes I could tell you were bile. If I had the chance, I would fight you all in hand to hand, but being nothing more than Robots stuck in your tin cans, and the fact that I must live to the end of this, I can't." Derik said. "But you're gonna die. I won't let trash like you exist." He muttered. "There was no point to wiping the humans out. Weather you believed it to be best or not."

"I trusted you Elly. I trusted you. And you repaid me with this betrayl. Hou were going to kill us. I know it." Wing's engines glowed brightly, and she shot forward.

"Well it's time you atoned. Atonement through war and death is your only venue." Wing's weapon systems went live, the beam rifle being extended. "I liked you Elly. You didn't pull BS on me. Now this?" Seraphim felt tears well. "I'll never know the kids od my relatives. Never know my ed-girlfriend's great great grandkid. You didn't just kill humans. You murdered CHILDREN! WHAT DID CHILDREN EVER DO TO.YOU!"

As Seraphim soon approached the three vessels, Sera's face grew hard. "Wish you got me pregnant now. Oh screw you rage." She said in a moment of insanity.

Then a scary calm settled, and on an open chanel to everyone, Seraphim said two words.

"Mission...Accepted."

Missiles flew from the Wing, equal numbers flying towards each SA Warship. Sera targeted the closest one, Rytt's blue Bebop. She would have targeted Odin and Elly...but too far.

As the targeting system did her job halfway, Seraphkm got one last jab in.

"My name is Seraphim Valentine. You killed everything and everyone I have ever known. Prepare to die."

She unleashed the dual laser rifle on full power, aiming for the Bebop's core.

The first shot from Seraphim was dissapated by Bebop's sheilds, but the second broke through and grazed the core, damaging Bebop's movement capacity.

"Geez... it didn't take long with Vergyl..." Rytt said.

The ships sat still for a moment. The weapons of any of the three could attack at any moment.

"You're angry. So you've seen what happened. It was the reaction I feared you'd have, in fact, it's quite a bit worse. This is exactly why I didn't show it to you." Elaryse said. She was fairly calm but an undertone of anger and annoyance was in her voice. "If you continue to attack us I will have no choice but to return fire. But your plan is more than that. You wish to gain control of Genesys, indeed I'm sure you intend to shut us all down."

"Seraphim...." Rytt seemed preoccupied in containing the damage to his ship. "...watch it. You have to beware of what you do at a point like this- when everything is at stake. Beware of what you do and who you trust wholeheartedly."

The Odin moved slowly to face Seraphim's Wing. Elaryse again.

"You think I'm a monster. You think we're all monsters. You haven't the half of it. Look behind you. The planet that created the most heinous war machines ever devised. The planet where the most destructive virus in the history of humankind was built. You're very quick to judge. You mistake us for monsters. We are simply the only ones who had the power to change fate and the will to know it had to be done. You require a villain, and we've filled it so very well for you haven't we? Think of how rash your being. You know where Genesys is now. We can change things, we can make it better than it's ever been. That was always the plan, Seraphim, that never changed."

"Damn bitch..." Derik muttered. "If I just had some range... Wait..." Derik spawned an idea. "Sera, you gotta come back to us in one piece, so maybe a little dagger and a lot of luck can help..." He thought, deciding to delock the sword from the dagger, using the virtual one instead, he moved E.V.A out from behind of Wing, then took aim at the core with the dagger. "Prepare to blow to smithereens." He muttered, throwing the dagger as hard as he could at the intended target to cause some damage and hopefully give Sera a little easier a time with doing as she needed.

The Knightmare was launched out of the planet's atmosphere and into space. Ferro detected the three SAs, and sent them a data packet explaining what had happened to him. He knew the delivery method by itself would probably tip them off, but he also explained the whole deal in document form. Ferro kept himself alert to any attacks coming from the ships, ready to put up his shield if Alex was too slow.

"Got it." Alex murmured. Going over the controls once, he quickly figured out how to fire the weapon. Which was essentially pull the trigger and then things explode. He aimed this weapon at the Bepop, pulling the trigger to fire off a salvo of bolts.

"Sorry Rytt." Alex said, "I came to trust you, but it seems that the trust I gave you was misguided."

Rodin had a stern, angry look on his face when seeing the three SA ships, particularly Elaryses'.  Laughing for no reason he could think of, he says:  "You know Elaryse, I didn't expect you to do some kind of outrageous act when I first met you.  You made me believe you had good intentions.  You fooled me into thinking it was fine to trust and work with you.  But you know what's the funniest thing is?  The funniest thing is, you made me think I was a hero on some quest to save humanity.  Something and someone I've always wanted to do and be as a kid.  I hoped you didn't make me regret joining you.  But you did.  When I found out what you and the other 2 SAs' did, I was furious!  And I STILL AM!!!!!!"  Rodin held the rail gun in Laganns' left hand forward and fired over 14 shots at the three SA ships, most of them heading to Odin.

Rija was still hesitant to fire upon the SA's they had put their trust in beforehand. They had learned the truth as the way Vergyl had said it, but who was to say that Vergyl could be trusted? They had trusted Veridyan, Rytt, and Elaryse before, but it only took a few words and a convincing hologram to get the whole of humanity to turn their backs upon the three. Rija felt uneasy, but she was still one against the other five (counting Ferro) humans. She decided to pretend she couldn't work her AP, and just wait things out for a tad longer.

Derik noticed Rija having issues. "Is everything OK, dear? He sent to her via private comm. "Do I need to grab you out of there?" He asked, worry creeping up his spine.

Dear? That word pricked Ferro's ears up, if he could be said to possess ears. What happened when I was in the black box? Since when does Derik start calling people "dear"?

"Ferro..." Rytt seemed concerned about Ferro's new state, but there was something else in his voice's intonation. Just then Rodin's volley of missiles began to hit the three ships. Rytt's and Veridyan's ships utilized enough shield power, but Elaryse was hit by enough to break through and get some minor hull damage.

It was then that Rytt's core got hit by Derik's EVA's Dagger. The core rocked with several smaller explosions, and it died down quite bit, seemingly heavily damaged.

"You are being a fool. I have no choice but to shut down your combat capabilities." Elaryse did not speak in anger or sensitivity, only in a matter of fact. The Odin suddenly show out dozens on dozens of missiles, which seperated into two groups; one headed for Derik, and one for Rodin. They all swrved and spun, making each individual one difficult to hit. It would take a combination of maneuvering and destroying the missiles to get out of their range.

"There is no time!" Vergyl communicated with the group. "You have to go to the beacon behind the ships and warp to Earth. Simply get there and my presets will take over and send you to Earth's coordinates.

Veridyan's Rex was the next to open fire, with a wave of focused energy beams shooting towards Derik. "Your anger ain't helpin' things friends, I'm stopping this."

Inside Ferro's mind he suddenly received an instant transmission. It was Rytt. It simply carried a message from him. "You must see this. We wouldn't be able to explain to the others in time." With the message came a huge data transmission. Mayday. It was a virus. Developed by the three SAs after they had been taken off Genesys project. Several reports of insubordination from all 3 SAs during it's construction. They reported it was too unethical. Development continued nonetheless, and a tether was placed under the SA subsystem to confine them to the research facility until the project was finished. The virus took two weeks after infection to show symptoms. First fever, then it purposefully fired the majority of pain receptors, causing excruciating horror in those affected. It did not, however, kill them. They could stay alive for 5 weeks in this state before death. It was meant as a message to the rebellion. It would spread quickly because of the 2 weeks without symptoms. At the time of the human disappearance over 60% of the rebel planets were infected. 34% of UHC worlds too. Collateral damage. The spread of the virus was meant to be contained, but it proved difficult. Chances of the majority of the human population dying from the virus; likely. There was no way to tell the true extent of the virus either given the lack of initial symptoms. The 3 SAs conferred for 4 consecutive days on the matter after being released from the chemical weapons facility after finishing the project. Afterward, Genesys was activated by them. Vergyl never knew. He couldn't have. He was too connected to humanity to understand the inherent issues with the human mind- the inherent flaws of war and horrors of human cruelty. He did not know of the virus and would surely never believe them. The intention was to use the gathered matter from human kind to create a new, better race, that the SAs could help from such cruelty. After Genesys activation, Vergyl redid the tether on the SAs and re contained them temporarily. Then he hid Genesys, making this plan impossible without humans to remove tethers.

These files were not artificial, they had been compiled through Rytt's operational history. Elaryse wished to create a race of people who were confident and respectable and followed order and thus were without chaos and hatred. Veridyan wanted a happy race who's common joy would stop the creation of war. Rytt wanted the recreation of humans on a smaller scale, starting from only a few, that they might grow from their flaws as humans have and create society anew from a small scale, thus allowing for the creativity and complexity of humanity without mass cruetly.  This difference is why the SAs fought, even with the plot they had come together to make such that humanity could be saved such suffering. Vergyl, not knowing of the plot wished to use Genesys to fully re inhabit the galaxy with humans.

This was the truth. Ferro now knew. There were no villians or heroes at this moment. There were a bunch of people who made hard decisions about something very morally grey, and they all had more hard decisions to make. The question is, what would he do now that Rytt was damaged and unable to explain the situation before the others had acted?

Edited by MDSVeritas

Sera had resumed her aim at the Odin, ignorning the damaged Bebop. Her anger now was directed at Elaryse, and her gun once again aimed.

"Go guys. I'll deal with these three."

Her gun again fired, blasting through Elaryse's shields. "You betrayed me Elly."

Redirecting her gun, she fired four shots across the missiles' paths, taking out a few in the line of the laser's trail and giving Rodin some breathing room. "Shut this down you bitch!"

Again, she sent a message telling everyone to run. She would hold the line.

She had to.

As the shots came near, Derik didn't budge. "Not yet..." He mutters. They inched to him, when he applied all force backwards. Verydian and Elaryse's shots collided, destroying most of eachother's attacks. All left was a single rocket, which he ducked under slightly, and then turned and punched it down towards the planet, although the explosion was still in range of his mech. The force pushed him, and the pain sensors kicked in as well, letting him know he was hit. The pain stung harshly as he turned to face the direction on the gate again. "Verydian, was it? Even if you were to know, you'd never understand the emotion I feel now. I feel disgust. Hatred. Rage, to the point of near-blinding fury. I feel a pease as well. I know who I am, and I can be that. Do you? By destroying the humans, you ironicly did as they were: blindly killing. Nothing more. My purpose now is to see the universe restored to its previous form. What I feel right now is a sense of righteousness. You, Rytt, and Elaryse lack that. You just kill to get your way. Why kill? Because your feelings lack that at which I called righteousness."

Ferro could only accept data for the few seconds during Rytt's transmission. Then he spent another second in stunned silence. And another sorting the data and formulating conclusions. Five seconds in total. The conclusion was: Rytt was right in that the whole thing was morally ambiguous. On the one hand, the way Genesys was used ended the lives of all humanity. On the other hand, there wasn't much of humanity left. And then there was the perennial debate on human nature. Ferro was undecided on the issue right now, but there were some things he knew he had to do. Taking control of Knightmare, Ferro quickly scanned the frequency of Veridyan's energy bolts, changed the frequency of his shield to match, and flew into the bolts' path. The shield became visible as the bolts impacted it, storing the energy in Knightmare's large reserve reactor. Then Ferro sent a message back to Rytt, telling him his conclusion, and also saying that he was undecided on the issue.

Rodin looked at the missiles and thought:  Guess it's time for some evasive maneuvers!  He flew up and fired some shots from the rail gun.  The shots and Seraphim's only took out half of the missiles while the rest followed Rodin.  He quickly thought:  Great, heat seekers are locked onto me! With this hefty armor, I've got to think of something.    He flew far to the right and fired a shot at one missile.  He flew down hard and took out another.  Rodin tried flying away from the last one, but he couldn't shake it.  The missile made contact at Laganns' torso and exploded.  It took some damage, but was still in one piece.  Rodin thought:  Lagann really does have some good armor!  But any more missiles and I've could've been in danger.  Rodin heard Seraphim and said:  "Are you kidding me Sera?!  If we leave you here alone, you won't make!  You just saw some of what they can do.  There's no way I'm leaving you here!  And I'm not exactly in the fastest mech here!"

Sera suddenly was in front of Lagann.

"We all wll die if you don't run! The needs od the many outweigh the few! So stop letting your feelings control you and send younto death! I understand you don't wanr tonleave me, I understand none of you wanr to. But if you don't none of us will make it! So go! I can draw their fire!"

Powering forward, Wing unleashed missiles at Odin and another wave of laser rifle shots raced at the Rex.

"Please. If you upload the virus...you'll save me."

"I know that Sera, but.... but...."  Rodin held a right fist in the cockpit.  He knows Seraphim was right.  It was more important for the group majority to make it out than an individual.  But he was so angry about the situation.  In a rushed fury, Rodin yells:  "Damn it all!!"  and flies over the SA ships as fast as Lagann could go.

Ferro saw Rodin's initiative and followed behind him, ready to shield him from oncoming fire. "Derik! Other girl who was called "dear"! We're moving now!"
