The wind blew softly over the island. Besides the soft swaying of the trees there was little to disturb the idyllic serenity here. The island stretched out for miles, but at the coasts there was nothing to see but water. The island, like the universe in which it existed, was nearly empty, the remnants of life clung, decaying, to its shores and its trees and its fields, but the yells of excitement, of fear, of courage that has once complimented the sound of the wind ha since faded to echoes. Today, however, that changed. Today life returned to the universe. The only question is; what kind of universe would it return to?

"C'mon, get up!"

"All of you, wake up."

"Rise and shine, it's a new day."

Far away voices entered the hazy minds of those sleeping on the island.

Lying on the shore of a short beach was Seraphim Valentine, Derik Absolon, and Samantha Allison, and Rodin Seefull. The wind blew over them as they lay sprawled over the sand in close proximity to each other. Just as they had been placed. Next to the beach was a mix of jungle and swamp that went deeper into the mainland. Besides that the beach was mostly barren. A wrecked fishing boat was rusted and decaying within walking distance, but nothing more. The waves lapped up on the shore softly...

Lying in the middle of an airstrip surrounded by jungle was a different group. Rusted machine parts lay strewn about, and any sign of activity at the airstrip had long since faded. On the ground in the middle of the airstrip lay Alex Dimanche, Ferro al'Vere, and Hazimie Azhar Two desolate bunkers flanked the airstrip they were on, with a control tower at the end of the strip. Forest flanked the airstrip on all sides, with a single winding road leading out. The wind cut through the trees and sliced past the bunkers onto the airstrip. Only the wind and the trees provided any sound to the desolate military installation...

Deep in the jungle was a pair of rusted jeeps parked next to a crumbling house. The jeeps were long past functioning, and their engines were removed recently as well. The house sat surrounded by the trees with a single road leading somewhere further into the jungle. Inside the house were the four people; Rija Mors, Terry Frost, Henko Tenioenai, Koizumi Onnea, and Rin Nozomi Part of the roof of the house had caved in, and most of the belongings and furniture were gone. Remaining in the house were a few pots and pans, and single picture in an immaculate frame on a table in the room where the four people were laying. Silence pervaded the house...

The far away voices slowly awakened all of these people. The clouds in the blue skies above moved slowly; the morning was upon them. It was time to wake up and find the future...

As the broken and shattered Wing fell into the stormy blue of the planet's ocean, the other remaining APs were suddenly forcibly shot away at ridiculous speed. "Sorry," Vergyl said " but there was no more time to be wasted, I had to expand the Beacon warp range so you would all come along to Earth. Unfortunately this means that the other three ships will probably be along much sooner to Earth than I expected. You'll have to work fast. As the jump ended the group floated slowly over a familiar looking green and blue sphere below them, a shining hope in the darkness that surrounded it. They floated near a fairly small space station, which had several docking stations on it that could interface with the APs. "This is the space elevator to the Genesys location and the central control station for the Y-class SAs. You'll have to dock and go down the elevator, then insert the virus I've given for you all to use, and then activate Genesys. Note that Gensys is voice activated, so it should be fairly easy to use, simply explain what you want. And th-" The three ships really weren't far behind. The Rex warped in first, then the Odin, and quite a bit later the Bebop. The Rex began immediately firing, the Odin, with it's huge gash, had to take time to repair, and the Bebop was still. "Damn!" Vergyl was noticeable emotional for the first time. "They are heavily damaged at least. Seraphim's sacrifice has left Elaryse out of the fight for now and Rytt doesn't seem to be engaging. Only one or two of you at most will need to stay here to engage. The others need to hurry to the space elevator space station and take the elavator to the Earth's surface. Ferro, the Knightmare has a small chip that can be removed with your consciousness in it and inserted into Alex's suit, so you can move and help him. At any case, choose who is staying and who is going, and we need to move, this is almost over...." The Rex's missiles reached towards the APs quickly...

Derik didn't answer. He was too focused on the thought of making Rija depressed enough to try and kill herself. Mentally, he was a wreck. "I... I would, but if I do, it would only make Rija worry more... I'll head down to Earth..." He mumbled, trying to engage the boosters again, he realised he had burnt them out already."I can't move faster... My boosters are blown, and I don't have any equipment. Vergyl, please tell me this thing has some sort of alternate weapons...?" He mumbled.

Ferro adjusted his shield and allowed some of the missiles to crash into it. His storage was almost full again. He used some of the power to boost ahead of the missiles, then unleashed a wide, low-energy burst. The rest of the missiles exploded. Then Ferro focused the last half of his stored energy into a powerful beam, which he scanned across each of the SA's ships. Finally he jetted over to the station and initiated the docking sequence. As soon as it was finished, Ferro downloaded himself to the portable chip. "Plug me into a terminal somewhere and I can get into the station's systems." he said, addressing Alex.

"Damn. Okay." Alex replied, taking the chip and examining it only for a moment. He gripped it in his hand as he released himself from the seat and opened up the hatch to exit the Knightmare. Alex lept from the hatch and down the the floor, his boots making a soft clank against the ground. "Found one." He whispered, dashing over to the nearest terminal and immediately plugging the chip into it.

"Hope I did that right. I ain't used to this new fangled technology."

Ferro felt his consciousness expand as he was plugged into the station. He could feel every part of if, control all aspects of it, and strangely, he considered the entire structure to be part of him. No defensive systems, unfortunately. Ferro started lighting up the station and engaging various necessary systems like doors. "The elevator is down this hallway, to the left, down another hallway." he said, opening the door at the end of the hall.

As Rodin was heading to the destination, he turned Lagann's head to the planet.  He then spots Wing falling down and thought:  Sera!  Sera.  Before Rodin could mope on the thought Seraphim had....gone away, he heard Vergyls' statements.  After a minute, he says:  "You guys go on ahead.  I'll deal with the company here.  Lagann is still in fighting condition, so I'm good to go."  Rodin starts flying off towards the Rex, thinking:  This will be good to let out some repressed anger!

Ferro knew what he had to do now. Finding Seraphim's final testament in his data storage, he dropped it into a packet and sent it to Rodin.

(You do the honors, Oathkeeper.)

The message popped up on Rodin's HUD.

Sorry I hurt you. I thought that, if you thought I was actually into girls...more then guys...maybe you'd not feel much for me. To soften the blow. I felt I would die. I knew I would die.

I entered the cryopod alone. My sisters had all succumbed to death. Three of us, and already two gone. I was running when I entered that pod. I ran from death. But now, as I watch this beautiful planet below me, in the seat of a mecha that I'd have never dreamed of seeing, I'm not afraid of death.

I was afraid of being alone. But I wasn't alone.

You saved me from that room...I again cheated death.

I always was amazing at hiding my feelings. No one could ever really read me. That's what made me such a good hacker - I could detach myself.

And now, as I see the Odin...I can't even hide my feelings. Now...now I've shattered that shell. Because for once, someone was there for me.

You'll always be there for me in my heart. Believe in the Sera that believes in you, alright?

Love,

Sera

The Valkyrie

Meanwhile

The Wing settled on the sea floor. Sera was surprised no seals were broken. She reached up, looking at her hand in the dim light of the consoles around her. She laughed softly.

"Why do I feel like the universe wants to pull off another Endless Waltz?" she mused. "Got an answer, Alex?"

As always, the silence answered her. she watched as a few floating pieces of debris came by. Her rifle remained in her hand, as well as most of her weapons.

Hah.

Least they made the APs right.

Sera closed her eyes. Maybe...it was her turn.

Ariel...Ophina...she'd get to see them...finally...

Over a dozen laser rifles on the Rex engaged simultaneously, and the beams they shot out danced around, slightly repositioning more and more towards the Lagann. "Woah there bud..." Veridyan warned. The beam cannons continued to move until a closer lock on Lagann was gained, and they fired once more.

The door opened before Alex, and in the next room there it was; a huge open elevator standing before him. Ferro would be able to tell that the elevator led directly into the main lab, where Genesys and the control point for the SAs would be. One little elevator ride and they might end this...

"Vergyl... Please tell me I have something!" He got up, E.V.A.'s movement mirrored his own. The boosters were begining to be repaired by the recovery systems when he did so, but his thrust was still gone. "Rija..." He muttered. "I told you, I won't die, and I won't... But you have to not die either. Come on..." He muttered. "Just answer me! Say something!" He yelled. "Your alive, so am I... But I need you to be here for me... I..."

Alex swallowed and stared at the behemoth of an elevator.

"Christ." He whispered, walking up to it. He stepped inside, marveling at the wide space. Being a man from a time where the biggest -and coolest- elevators were the crummy small ones at his apartment complex, this elevator was astounding.

"O-okay. Uh..where does this lead?"

"It leads straight down to the lab." Ferro replied. "We should wait to see if anybody else makes it, though." Ferro began building firewalls to protect himself and the systems of the station from virtual attacks. He hoped the others would make it, but he also felt strangely detached from them, as if their lives didn't matter.

No! I am still human! You're more than human. No, only human! You can inhabit entire buildings. You can steal information from anywhere. You could expel all oxygen from this station.

I am human. . . Just human.

Rodin stopped for a moment when he saw Seraphim's message.  When he finished reading it, he thought:  So that's why you went with the cryo freeze.  You had sisters who died before you and were running away from death.  But now you're accepting the idea?  I'll respect and honor the thought.

Rodin went to his comm systems and said:  "Sera, if you can hear me, I just want to say I understand.  I know how it feels about death, loosing family members, and being alone.  Back home in the past, I always thought I'd never meet someone who wouldn't make me feel lonely or want to be with anyone.  But I met you, here, in this time.  The brief time we were together are most special to me.  Like I said or thought, nothing would change how I feel about you.  I will always believe in you.  Now I need you to believe I can hold off the SA ships long enough for our friends to reach Genesys.  If I die from this fight, but gave the others enough time, I won't mind.  So I'll have to see what happens next."

Rodin spots the lasers coming towards himself and flew off.  He dashed to the left and fired shots from the rail gun to some of them.  He spun the drill to go through others.  But some lasers landed hits on Lagann.  Shaking a little from the blows, Rodin shouts:  "Pretty good.  But I'm not done yet!"  He fires about 20 rounds towards the Rex, hoping they'd hit.

"You okay?" Alex asked, "I just...I'm getting that vibe that something terrible is going to happen soon." Alex looked around for a moment, placing one hand at the side of the elevator. It was surprising at how much had happened in so little time. He made a friend or two, and then one of those became an AI. Alex blinked, looking around the room he was in. Ferro is essentially the whole station at this point. So...essentially...I am inside him. Which...is creepy to say the least. Alex chuckled, not sure as to why he found that funny.

"I'm doing all right. Still getting used to everything." Ferro used some external sensors to get a view of the fight outside. "Dammit! One of them is going all heroic and self-sacrificing. They don't seem to get it." Ferro sighed internally, which was actually a few data transmissions passing in a loop. "There is nothing we can do for them. Except maybe getting down there and deploying the virus as fast as possible."

Derik then managed to remembrr Ferro being able to scan the AP's after he tried to get Rija to say something. He had a message quickly written, asking him if the E.V.A. had any other forms of combat. He sent the message quickly in hopes he would repspond.

Ferro received the message as soon as Derik sent it. He couldn't do a voice response from his distance, but he did send a message: the E.V.A possessed only the dagger you threw and its own natural strength.

"Damn..." Derik muttered. "I hope my boosters get back online soon..." He thought, he couldn't move, he let Rija down, two died from him alone. "I'm a failure..." He mutters, waiting to be able to move again.

"Deri-" a voice came through with a lot of static. It was Vergyl. "The vents- y- on the E.V- it's hands have energy vents- Close all other vents- besides th- hands, overload the AP core. The energy will b- it will be incredibly potent- funnel it through the arm and hand vents- it will work as a sort of energy attack at close- close range."

The Rex fired off another volley of missiles, towards the group. 'Why won't you listen!?" Veridyan yelled.

(Oh Christ. You gave me the Erupting Burning God Hand, didn't you? MDS, your the best.)

Seraphim watched the light filter down. She had hit a shallow spot. Hey.

She smiled and closed her eyes...then Wing came to life.

"Telling me something? Can't...Can't I accept my fate?"

As the boot-up sequence started, Sera sighed. "Death...you're not gonna take me just yet...are you? Making me keep going until you're ready?"

She opened her eyes, then her hands flew across the keyboards and displays. "So. You got some brains?"

The boot up finished. Seraphim laughed. "Can I call you Zero?"

The diagnostics said the water had damaged her systems and could not guarantee it would be able to hold together after two seperate atmosphereic interfaces. Not that Sera cared.

She just had to survive two.

"Alright Alex. You can tell those two pains in the ass...that I'll see them later."

(I just got an idea. It's likely only gonna work once, though.)"Thanks, Vergyl. But I'm gonna try something dangerous, crazy, and something every person who has ever seen it wished they could do." Derik commanded the system to close all vents. The heat quickly rose as Derik stepped back with his right leg, his AP doing the same. The heat was already nearing one-hundred and ninety degrees farenhight in the cockpit as Derik threw his hands forward, right hand above the other. "But who would even dare the attack in namesake without the name... Kame..." His hands slid back from their position, the temparature was now about three-hundred and twelve in the cockpit alone, and the hands took a position just behind the body. The semi-distorted hands were reverse of eachother, the right pointing forward, left back. "Ha... me..." The heat reader read four hundred and two degrees when the hand vents opened, the energy started flowing out into the palms, with no place to go, they formed into a small bluish orb. The temperature, however, hardly stopped going up. Derik pushed the heat as high as possible as he charged the attack. He used a little heat to propulse himself into the range of Verydian's ship for the attack. "Heat plus excess gasses chambered into an orb-like form from my body. Take this attack: it comes from the human's!" Derik yelled, his right hand switched to the position of his left, and it cuffed the orb. He then brought the orb and his hands out in front of him, like they were before when he started. His hands rotated, and the vents in the hand opened fully and instantly as the heat was just below six-hundred degrees, the body cooled as he shot the energy compiled in the orb out at he ship. "Ha!" Derik screamed, the long "a" that came from him was loud, it held all the energy he had left for the attack. E.V.A. was going to need some time after the shot was finished to recover. The hands were now warped extremely; the vents that made the attack possible melted, Derik sighed. "I'm not gonna get to do that again..." He muttered, keeping the shot focused on the ship he fires at, he only hoped Rodin and Rija didn't fly into it's enormous path.(Sorry MDS, I couldn't help myself, I had to do it, but knowing it would make me broken, I only made it possible to do once.)

(Huh.  So that happened.  Hm.)

Rodin saw missiles being launched and was ready to fire on them.  But they passed by him.  He thought:  They're heading for the others!, turned Lagann around and chases after the missiles.  He fired from the rail gun and took out most of them.  There was just one left, but the rail gun wasn't firing.  The word "Reload" came on Rodin's screen and yelled:  "Reload?!  Now you tell me this?!"  But he sees the last missile was obliterated by some kind of blast.  Staring at it, Rodin thinks: I need to DOOOODGE!!  He quickly flies down and barely escapes the blasts' path.  Blinking repeatedly, Rodin says:  "I guess someone has some Super Saiyin Swagger."
