May 22, 201015 yr like naught2 said, Ven was with both light and darkness, but then Master Xehanort took all the darkness out of him to make Vanitas. Ven was then full of light and no darkness
May 22, 201015 yr Ventus was pretty much balanced at first. After MX extracted the darkness from his heart and created Vanitas, that all changed. Ven is now pure light, and Vanitas is pure darkness. Hope that clears things up.

As we see from the opening cutscene, Vanitas was made up of not even half of Ven's heart. It's just that, Ven as a person is very...gentle, as Master Xehanort puts it in his reports. Vanitas' heart of darkness was too strong, it grew too quickly, while Ven's heart of light was not only broken, but was also quickly fading.

Van's a plain ol badass. and evil,psycho to the core. its funny if you think about.
