You use magic on them. If they are fanning their face, you use blizzard. If they are shivering, you use fire, and so on and so forth.

Play a game of charades with them. Cast magic on them depending on which action they take (ex. light above head means cast thunder on them). If you're lucky, you could get mystery goo for synthesis.

Really? I just beat the crap out of them LMFAO

Also, try to wait for them to do the same action and only use the one type of magic on them to get its arts. For example, if you only use fire on one, at the end he will also drop a "Fire Arts".
