Everyone calls Sora the "Keyblade master"

Posted

After playing through Kingdom Hearts Final Mix & Sora's story in Re:Chain of Memories I've noticed people call Sora the "Keyblade master" so much. I knew people like Goofy did but everyone does. Even Organization XIII members call him the "Keyblade master".

But if memory serves me, no one calls him the "Keyblade master" in Kingdom Hearts II, but they call the Queen "his majesty".

They called him the Keybalde Wielder in the original I as far as I remember, I know Triton says it at the least. He also correctly implied that there existed others, so it's not like Sora was only ever meant to be the only one, they've just become extremely rare in the current age. Kairi getting a Keyblade makes complete sense since Kairi is basically meant to become the next Aqua.

I don't remember very many people calling him a 'Master' in KHI, either. They mostly used the word 'Wielder'. Plus, the word 'master' can also be applied to the fact that the Keyblade is semi-sentient, so Sora really is the 'master' of his blade, even if he's not an OFFICIAL 'Keyblade Master'. Confusing, but it makes sense if you think about it.

But, truthfully, I don't think wielding a Keyblade was ever intended to really be 'special'. I mean, look at the secret scene at the end of KH. The FMV that showcases the battle between Roxas and Riku. They both had Keyblades, so, I think Nomura always meant for Keyblades to be handed out to all of the main characters. (Barring Donald and Goofy) It's just been the slow process of revealing the story over the course of an entire series. (A series that seems to consistently be taking one step forward and two steps backward.)

Want to know the real reason everyone calls Sora "Master?"

Because he is.

This is true. Not to mention, they may have referred to him as a master in terms of mastering the USE of the Keyblade. Akin to how somehow can be far along in learning the blade, but is still worlds apart from a beginner, but would still be easily defeated by a proper master.

I like that line of reasoning there, and it goes well with what I mentioned about Triton's implication of other key bearers. If we're to say Sora's special, it should be from a VERY limited context. At the time, he was the only known Keybalde wielder that most learned about. . Mickey kept this secret shrouded very close to himself, so it makes sense that no one knew until he really started to get knee deep into adventuring again. This goes well with the fact that, despite his personality, he does have a Keybalde of Darkness, so he probably has a darker side to him, that's not really the bad dark.

And then Mr. Retcon came along.

And then Riku took the title away from him.. *giggles*
