What's gonna happen' to the old and today's games on the future?

Posted

Nothing lasts forever... that's true, but... there are games that we all love and care of.

With the new consoles coming up and new Windoes/Mac/Apple stuff happening, the old games that we love are no longer playable on those new "consoles".

The PS4 and XBOX ONE don't accept old games and olf Windows and Windows xP games don't work on Windoes 8 :(

The Sims 2 is a game that I love with all of my heart. A game that taught me SO MUCH! Sadly, I can no longer play the PS2 version, because my PS3 is the Slim version... and what if one day I get a new laptop or CPU and... I'm not able to play my adored The Sims 2?

This tought kills me... but not only Sims, Tomb Raider as well and other countless games like Harry Potter and etc...

What's gonna happen to those games? And... on 30 years from now? What'll happen to Kingdom Hearts 1, 2 or even the Remastered Versions?

I doubt Sony will sell PS2 or PS3 30 years from now...

To envision what will happen in the future, think about what's happening now:

Steam and Virtual Console are the two best examples right now. You can go and play classic NES games on your modern console easily, because they've been brought there so that modern gamers can enjoy what came before. Then you have Steam which specializes in putting games from the past on the store... games like System Shock that came out way back when now playable using Steam.

And a lesser example are HD remasters. Games from the PS2 era brought to the PS3 using HD re-releases. And the PSN putting on older PSOne games.

Then you have the PS4 with the possibility of the Gaikai streaming.

The point is... games will find some way to survive. Whether it be retroactive backwards compatibility or digital releases or Steam. They will survive.

At some point they will all fade into oblivion. Don't care for your games too much. Because you can be sure that they couldn't care less about you. Not because of anything you did, but because they're games. They don't have feelings. They are; however, happy that you're saving money with Geico.

Come to think of it, I think that comment got a little distracted from its original purpose towards the end there. Oh well, what can you do?

Hd Remasters and you can download and play old games on consoles and PC.

:( One day we shall reunite with are friends from the past and reintroduce them to our young but don't fret for the game is never lost as long as we remember, remind and honor the classics that have and will shape the future of gaming and how certain genres and how future series will be perceived

Keep your consoles and you'll be fine

They won't last forever. My PSP is dying... :( And my PS2 is getting weaker...

Yeah... but there age maes that will not get such attention... like the old Disney games that Disney used to do when a movie made sucess... I still love my 'Monsters Scare Island' ans we all know that Disney doesn't care about the old stuff anymore...

That's why you should keep your old consoles with you before their prices sky rocket on E-bay

I still have my precious Game Cube and Ps2 for over 11 YEARS and they still work ^_^

And even if they won't last forever...I'll try to look for another one

and I'm glad that my Wii can play GameCube games and my Wii U can play Wii games so even if my old ones died their games will live through the new one
