Hello Everyone

One thing I must congratulate about this community is the diversity of gamers we have here from FPS shooter players to hardcore RPG. One thing I really like about KH13 is that we have gamers who are fans from pokemon, Zelda, Final Fantasy and many others. I have been to some gaming communities which heavily bash other games series but it does not seem to be the case with this forum - so that is a good thing.

Now, who here is a Legend of Zelda fan? given the release of a new title "A link between worlds" which fits into the 'Downfall of the hero' timeline. It just really made me think about the future of the Zelda titles. Recently I went and bought a copy of Hyrule Historia and spend a good few hours reading through the master timeline.

Many of the Zelda fans are avid supporters of the Ganondorf saga and the master sword (I myself am one) - the games from this trilogy include Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Ocarina of time and to an extent Skyward sword as they directly deal with the threat of the same Ganondorf (except for Skyward Sword) and the Master Sword.

But due to the given nature of the split timeline, there could be 3 Ganons, a bunch of different Zeldas/Links and 3 Master Swords existing at a given time.

  • The Master-sword from  the Adult era (Windwaker, Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks) was lost under the waves - but the Sword was not destroyed as it exists as a seal to turn Ganon to stone, does that mean that Ganon and the Master sword may appear in the future of the adult era? The phantom sword and the Spirit sword were indeed epic, but nothing close to the good-ol blade of evil's bane. The Hyrule Kingdom in this timeline was destroyed at one point but is then re-established and is able to prosper on a new land.
  • From the Childhood Era (Majora's Mask, Twilight Princess and Four Swords), the Master Sword still exists throughout, but at the same time a legendary blade called the 'Four-Sword' exists and ultimately became the sword to defeat and seal Ganon at the end of this Timeline - why was the Master Sword not used to defeat Ganon? And Is there a relationship between the Four Sword and the Master Sword?? It was implied that Ganondorf died at the end of TP but another Ganondorf was born into the Four Swords series (According to the Hyrule Historia timeline, this new Ganondorf used the Trident of darkness from the Great Pyramid of Power to restore his memories of his previous incarnations?). But otherwise its implied that the Kingdom of Hyrule still stands strong.
  • From the Hero's downfall timeline, it turns out that Ganon has reduced Hyrule to nothing more than a dying Kingdom, Hyrule castle is gone by the end of the timeline and monsters pretty much rule the land - Even the Master Sword slowly ceased to exist by the end of the timeline. Unfortunately it feels to me that Nintendo just shoved every game which doesn't fit into the childhood/adult timeline into this timeline.

Now I have some issues with the Zelda series...alot of plot holes, too many alternative worlds (Dark World, Twilight Realm, Subrosia, Termina, Silent Realm, Lorule....etc the list goes on) - alongside a Second inverted Triforce. Maybe one day Nintendo will find a way to combine all three timelines into a single timeline ~ which timeline is your favourite?

Lets hope the Nintendo won't disappoint with the next Zelda installment (Zelda WiiU), I reckoned Skyward Sword might have been a lot more epic if the textures weren't so goddamn cartoony ~ who knows? I'm hoping to see a Dual Wielding Link someday (Four Sword + Master Sword) - or maybe we can expect a game with a story as epic as OoT but with dark and serious graphics like those from TP.

P.S: I have a thing for Dual-Wielding characters ~ I fanboyed so hard the first time I saw Roxas Dual Wield (and threw my PS2 controller mind you), and now he is my No.1 fav character. Sora doesn't count coz Roxas was the first to show me Duel wielding from memory.

I hated Ocarina of Time 3D's gameplay.

Thats a perfectly valid opinion ~ I never finished Ocarina of time either sadly myself, but I really liked the story.

Ocarina of time definitely lacks a certain oomph now, but at the time it was revolutionary. Dat camera. Dat lock on. Dat 3D graphics. Dat story. Dem items. etcetera. It's easy to overlook it's contribution to gaming now when there are so many other games that improved on the concepts it established, but you can tend to forget that Ocarina is responsible for a lot of those concepts to begin with. This might be a bit of a cheating example, but here it is... I think Majora's Mask is one of the best LoZ games ever made, and I think it blows Ocarina out of the water in terms of story and execution. But it wouldn't be without Ocarina there for it's base. I say that's a bit of a cheating example because Majora IS a direct sequel but hush.

TL;DR: It's easy to knock it now when games of today are so improved, but a lot of games today wouldn't have had anything to improve upon had it not been for Ocarina.

Least that's my opinion.

As for the original question posited by the thread and the poll...

All of the Above. I don't really pay much attention to the timeline, because even when the games are connected they all still feel like their own standalone adventure. Even games directly connected to each other still play well on their own. For that reason, things like all the alternate realms and the plotholes between them all don't really bother me.

I'm still curious to see where they go with it. It's bound to be interesting.

Wind Waker is my favorite and first Zelda game. I was 8 when I played it. And I've beaten it once a year since. :D

I would say all of the above, while there is games in each timeline I don't love as much as others, I tend to like the majority of each in the timeline.

I prefer the child timeline
