Why I help support my book adaptation movies to be continued

Posted
I am SICK of all of these discontinued book-to-movie adaptations that have potential to be great and given another chance, that should be made because they have a story to tell, NOT because they are popular and make money, meanwhile milking and cash cowing  all of these popular franchises. I mean how many instalments of Star Wars does there need to be?  (Go onto the Wiki here http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Luke_Skywalker#Appearances and look up how many sources JUST for appearances for Luke Skywalker. The Star Wars Saga does not end with the umpteen movies, oh no, there are comic books, 2 Tv shows (with at least 3 seasons each), movie, and a video game, and comic book JUST on the Clone Wars in Star wars. I get that it is the most important event in Star wars, but as that event only happened for 2-3 years, with most of these media stories about the Clone wars (again, 5 seasons of one tv show, 3 seasons of another, a movie, a video game, AND comic books) taking place within 3 days or more, seriously shows milking to the up most extreme. And there are more comic books, tv shows, movies, and video games and novels and radio serials on other, ORIGINAL stories in Star wars. WE DO NOT NEED ALL OF THOSE ENTRIES!

Now, thats not to contradict my views, but i mean is it not time for another franchise to have its turn to shine. Aren't you getting tired of all of these Star wars movies? I mean, what is Episode VII and the spin offs gonna be about?  They've already told EVERY POSSIBLE story in Star Wars. Yes, we do have the books for Mortal Instruments, but these movies are different versions of the books, their own universe, as opposed to Star Wars, where all of those stories are set within the same universe (ya some are non canonical, but the MAJORITY are). And some people I've heard liked the movie BETTER than the book https://www.facebook.com/TheMortalInstruments plus some reviews on this site, so why completely abandon and leave the franchise that people love (the majority of people, even my mom who did NOT read the books LOVED the movie, even more so than Percy jackson, the other movie i am helping)

You are my new love, Riku21Terr. I clicked on this thread, thinking I'd mention The Mortal Instruments here, but lo and behold this is pretty much what the thread is about.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I LOVE TMI (the books and the movie), and it deserves so much more credit than it gets. It scares me that fans of the series are pretty much sabotaging their own franchise, due to a few changes. I mean, c'mon, people! Even if you don't like certain parts, this is still one of the most faithful adaptations I've ever seen, and a great movie.

And some of the things people are complaining about are unwarranted. I don't want to spoil things, but Valentine trying to get Clary to drink from the Cup is foreshadowing to City of Glass, and yet... people didn't realize that, and complained about "the change".

Anyway, if you're going to support TMI, I'm right behind you. It's one of my favorite series (personally, I like it better than THG, even), and think it deserves another chance. The main problem was marketing and bad timing, I think. So hopefully that changes next time (like, even though I'm one of the rare fans of Twilight, they shouldn't have advertised it like it), and fans are less nitpicky.

If they stop at City of Ashes, I might just die. (And they actually cancelled that one, until fans miraculously convinced them to give it another go). I mean, at least finish the first trilogy, is all I ask. I've been waiting for this adaptation for four years, and I'm going to be sad if it ends like this. I'm really surprised how this has all gone down, tbh, since it has a big fanbase, and was even popular before things like THG and Divergent. -le sigh-

Clearly, the fact that there is still a market for new Star Wars material indicates that the franchise has yet to tell all possible stories, and that the subject matter can still be explored.

Also, I doubt that the success of a film series that has been popular since the seventies is seriously inhibiting the success of more modern films. If the story of these books was good enough to warrant production on the level of Star Wars, then I'm sure it would be picking up steam. Look at things like Hunger Games, or even Harry Potter for that matter.

It's because Star Wars isn't SUPPOSED to be over. It's supposed to be the "trilogy of all trilogies", and as stated before, the fact that it's still making money spurs them to make even more. Even if you're sick of them, other people obviously aren't.

Why is it though? I mean supposedly fans have this official trilogy of sorts through novels that they consider the official Star Wars episode 7 etc. And what makes me more surprised is that people (most) HATED the prequels, and the Holiday Special and all other media except the originals. "the fact it's still making money" - THATS THE PROBLEM with movies, and quite frankly life in general, too much focus on the "money, money money", ruining franchises like Star Wars by cashing in and making them suck. I mean, despite the sequels' success, most people i know are tired of the Pirates and Shrek movies among others because (in their mind) they got worse and worse, which clearly happened with Star Wars. To quote the KHRP, people are just liking it because its based on the fact that it was popular WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT, and then they just like it because it is labeled Star Wars, so its like "Hey, its Star Wars, it must be good, and let's make more because we like it in general and even if its crap, then we'll still like it"

Have you ever considered that they are just milking it because they've clearly ran out of ideas and are focusing on the money and not the quality, just assuming that people will like it because its Star Wars? Half of the time with things like City of Boens it because no one knows what it is and because people don't like reading. when they say they like the "phenomenon" its because of the hype surrounding it. They do NOT want to read the book, they just wanna wait for the movie

I don't think that's the case at all! I think the reason it's still so successful is because it's aimed a new generation. My dad is mildly excited for the new Star Wars movie, but my brother is ecstatic. He reads the comics and watches the cartoon Clone Wars thing. A lot of kids aren't going to bother watching movies that are really old. Harry Potter books and movies started coming out when I was far too little to enjoy or understand either. Once I was older, I started watching the movies as they came out--I never revisited the old ones. And it got me kind of excited to see all the new ones. To me, nothing could have been over done because it was all new.

People aren't going to pay $10 to see something, plus movie theater food is always crazily over priced, so more like like $20 to waste 2 hours on a movie they don't like. Kids enjoy these things, even if older people are getting tired of them. I saw Madagascar 3 because my friend's brother wanted to go and I was going to keep her company. I'd already seen the last two, but I still enjoyed the movie. And while her brother hadn't seen ANY of the previous movies, he loved it! It might not appeal to you or some other older people, but the younger market is still gobbling it up. They enjoy it and bring it money, and really that's kind of the point of movies. You enjoy it and the creator makes money. So even if you're sick and tired of it, that doesn't mean everyone else is.

edit: btw please don't double post!! I'm sure it was an accident but yeah :)

Sadly, the majority of fans behave this way. Even if it's the smallest changes. I remember reading a news article that fans of 'The Hunger Games' flipped out because Katniss' and Prim's cat, Buttercup, didn't look the way 'they imagined'.

The end result was having a completely different cat in the second film. xD
