If you love Pokemon, you most certainly have heard the music of Kageyama Shota, who worked on titles such as Pokemon X/Y, Pokémon Black/White, and even Luminous Arc.

Shota has left Game Freak, he revealed in a post on New Year’s Day over Twitter. He notes that he’s “graduating” from the company after having spent the past six-and-a-half years there and is branching out to do his own thing with his new company, Spica Musica.

Shota appears to have parted on amicable terms with Game Freak, and won’t close the door on collaborating with them again in the future. That said, while he’s still more than happy to do game music, he’s also hoping to branch out and explore creating music in other avenues as well.

I vote for the guy who did Devil May Cry's soundtrack to replace him

I'm gonna miss him so much as he's made such a great  soundtrack for the series

Black and White 1&2 soundtrack is tied with Gen 2 games as my favorite Pokemon soundtrack ever and I hope that he can come back to compose the future games or at least get a good replacement for him.......like Yoko Shimomora(just listen to Mario&Luigi Dream Team Soundtrack and you'll see what I mean)

No please ;~;

He was the one who made this beautiful soundtrack ;~;

Yeah I agree. He's made really good Pokemon music. It's a little heart-breaking to see him leave. But he wants to explore more into the music industry and try new things with his talent.

And if he doesn't compose for the next games, then...I dunno...something. Do something.

Maybe the guy who does tunes for the kirby games would replace him!!!!

As sad as this news makes me, I'm glad that he's getting to do his own thing like he's wanted to. His music will be missed in the upcoming Pokemon games... It's nice to hear that he might collaborate a few times, though.

JUST WHEN THE MUSIC GETS BETTER HE LEAVES

What sucks is that he was responsible for a lot of the actually good songs in XY since Go Ichinose wasn't involved at all. lol

Well tp be fair he didn't totally leave

He  became a freelancer musician (Like how Nobou Uematsu composed FFXIV even though he left Square Enix)

They can hire him again if Matsuda felt that the next game needs his musical talent

To be fair Axel, this music track was DEFINITELY RIPPED OFF FROM MOTHER 3'S LOVE THEME. I know Gamefreak was the one who made EB and has the rights to use it, but the composer didnt come up with this track by himself. It was taken from M3.

But besides that, i did like alot of the tracks he DID compose, and its sad to hear he's leaving.

Well, I'm pretty sure he at least redid it with the B/W sounds. I know it's the Love Theme, though. xD
