Chapter 47: The Finest Hour Part 7 Of 10-The Universe

(Start Song Here)

Mickey bound Xylek in chains of light, but it was all in vain, for Xylek broke the chains like if they were nothing more than scraps of paper.  Then they suddenly found themselves floating, being controlled by a powerful aura that Xylek was emanating.  Then he simply laughed as he saw the predicament the Keyblade Wielders were in.  “Now, you will all witness true power!” he proclaimed, as he spread his arms and legs wide, causing a swirling black hole to appear out of nowhere, sucking everything that was within its radius.  The Keyblade Wielders tried to resist, but the black hole was too powerful, and it pulled them in, and now they found themselves in a seemingly endless vortex of darkness, and they felt as if though they were going through it at high speeds.  Xylek appeared in front of them and smirked.  “This will be your final resting place!” he said, as he started so shoot pulsing red beams of twilight from his hands, using the black hole to his advantage.  Everything that sped past them was going in lightspeed, and it felt as if the Keyblade Wielders were trapped in an endless whirlpool of darkness.

They were still being held back by Xylek’s aura, but they were able to summon enough willpower to move on their own, as they blocked the beams of twilight that Xylek was firing at them.  The speed with which the black hole was sucking them was making them wobble to and fro, unable to get some solid footing.  Vanitas then saw pieces of debris appearing from the darkest reaches of the black hole, and then he had an idea.  “Guys, follow my lead!” he said, as he fired a Triple Firaga spell, causing the debris to break in pieces.  Immediately catching on the idea, Dawn closed her eyes and made sure the pieces of debris would remain in place.  “Ah, footholds!” Sora said, understanding what was happening.  “Exactly!” Vanitas shouted.  “But not just footholds!” he said, as he then broke a huge chunk of debris and Dawn placed it as a wall.  Vanitas then jumped on the foothold and took cover behind the wall.

“With this, we have cover!” Vanitas explained, and then the others quickly caught up on Vanitas’ idea, and after a bit of struggling and dodging Xylek’s attacks, they all managed to get footholds, and now they were at least getting some even ground.  Xylek simply scoffed at them and then he proceeded to disappear and reappear constantly, attacking them at random.  The Keyblade Wielders held their positions and blocked Xylek’s attacks as best they could, but they weren’t able to block all his attacks.  Eventually, some of the Keyblade Wielders got wounded, and now Xylek had to capitalize.  “You will know true sorrow!” he said, as he leapt back, letting the force of the black hole pull him, and then he summoned a giant, crimson red hand of darkness that extended its blood red nails to the point of looking like razor sharp swords.  “Die, you fools!” Xylek shouted, going in a frenzy, relentlessly continuing his assault.

“Everyone, look out!” Mickey shouted, as they counterattacked against the blood red blades.  But then Mickey noticed that the blades weren’t attacking them.  Rather, they were breaking the footholds.  “Fellas, Xylek’s trying to put us off balance again!” he shouted, but before the others could act, their cover and footholds had already been broken by the blood red blades.  They were now being dragged about the swirling vortex of darkness as if they were rag dolls, and Xylek was the puppetmaster, masterfully toying with his helpless puppets.  “Your efforts are futile!  All that you know will be no more!” he said confidently.  But the Keyblade Wielders would not give up, even though their bodies were being strained to their limits, they could not let themselves give up.  Too much was at stake now for them to give up.  “You’ll never win!” Sora shouted, as he shot out a Ragnarok beam, aiming it as best as he could towards Xylek.  The beam eventually hit, causing Xylek to stagger, and for a brief moment, the swirling vortex stopped, and now the Keyblade Wielders figured that this was the best time to capitalize.

Vanitas quickly took the initiative and then he propelled himself forward, his Keyblade brimming with dark power.  “Now, let’s try this out for size.” he said to himself, as he started lunging towards Xylek and striking him from all sides while dragging a stream of darkness behind him, using the darkness to slice up against Xylek, eventually causing Vanitas to attack in a zig zag pattern until he leapt high enough above Xylek that he shot a Firaga beam straight towards him.  The shot hit, and Xylek staggered greatly.  “Just like Ventus’ Last Word, except mine is more improved.” he boasted to himself, feeling confident in his power.  Xylek looked upwards to Vanitas in anger, and just as he was about to strike him, Dawn quickly charged towards him, slicing him with her Keyblade, causing a gash to rip through Xylek’s hood, causing light to emanate from the hood, which burned Xylek’s body.  “Ahhh, no, this light, get it off!” he shouted, as he quickly took off his hood, and now only his inner clothing remained.  It was a whole body black suit made of leather.  He angrily tried attacking Dawn, but Riku shot out a Dark Firaga sphere, causing Xylek to fall back and brush off the little flame that remained on his suit.

“I will admit that you have all done well in resisting me so far.”  Xylek said.  “But that will not save you!” he proclaimed, as he spread his arms wide, causing an immense shockwave to emanate from his hands.  He then headed towards Sora, Donald and Goofy, and he attacked them blazingly fast, and then he headed over to the others, dispatching them, making sure to wipe them out one by one.  But the Keyblade Wielders were resilient and they refused to die.  They would not give in, no matter the relentless attack, no matter how much the odds were against them.  Xylek was baffled by the seemingly invincible motivation that compelled the Keyblade Wielders to keep on fighting.  He said no more, as they continued to engage him in battle.  Dawn, Kairi and Xion combined their spellcasting to form an elemental orb that housed Firaga, Blizzaga and Thundaga, and then they fired it off at Xylek.  The elemental orb had a considerable amount of power stored inside, and it was deadly.

As the elemental orb went towards its target, Riku fired off a stream of darkness into the orb, and then Vanitas and Dexeres injected their powers as well, then Gilgamesh fueled the orb with the power of his swords, and Sora, Donald and Goofy cast the Trinity Seal on it, and then Mickey cast a circle of light around the orb, causing it to morph into a sphere of unstoppable energy, and it headed straight towards Xylek.  “With all our power and all our strength, we will defeat you!” Mickey shouted, as the orb reached its target, causing an enormous explosion to take place.  The Keyblade Wielders covered their eyes to shield them from the blinding light of the explosion, and after the light died down, Xylek was knelt down, bruised, battered, and exhausted.  His whole body suit had gashes around the chest and right arm area.  He panted and caught his breath.  He couldn’t believe that he was being defeated.  He couldn’t bring himself to admit that he was on the edge of failing, that all his plans were crumbling down before him.

In disbelief, Xylek slowly stood up, coughing and feeling the blood dripping from his mouth.  “How is it possible?  How is this even remotely possible…?” he asked, feeling confused.  “I have planned this all so accordingly.  I made sure that I would be able to dash all of your hopes, and yet how?  How is it that you are all able to resist me?  You should all be dead by now!  How is it that you continue with your struggle even after all your hopes have been lost!?” he asked demandingly, feeling angered and desperate.  Riku stood in front of the Keyblade Wielders and gave a tired but determined smile.  “It’s because we don’t have it in our hearts to give up.  Even though we’re afraid of dying, even though we’re afraid of failing, we never give up.  As long as we live, there will always be hope!” he said defiantly, and Sora put his hand on Riku’s shoulder and nodded in agreement.  “That’s right!  No matter what darkness comes to threaten the worlds, as long as we live and breathe, we won’t let you get away with your plans!” he said, glaring at Xylek.  Mickey nodded in agreement and then stood in between Sora and Riku.  “I told you Xylek, you can’t win because you are too weak.” he said calmly.

Xylek simply laughed, and then he shook his head.  “No, I am not weak!  You are the ones that are weak!  You keep trying to resist me, and every minute you continue to struggle, your strength fades away!  There is no hope for you, there will be no dawn for you, there will be no victory.  Only death!” he said, as he unleashed a fiery, powerful aura that surrounded his body, as if he was being engulfed by flames.  The Keyblade Wielders held their ground, ready for whatever was coming.  Soon they saw that Xylek’s body was dissolving, as if he was fading away.  But then, after a few seconds, his body dissolved completely into his aura, creating an enormous beast of golden flame that had the appearance of a dragon.  It roared and opened its mouth wide, pure golden fire seeping from its teeth.  “Brace yourselves!” Dawn warned, as she saw the dragon about to unleash its wings.  “Attack!” Kairi shouted, as she lunged forward, leaping towards the dragon and then landing on its snout, and then she started to slash at the dragon numerous times, but the dragon, enraged, unleashed its wings, causing an incredibly strong gust of wind to blow her and the other Keyblade Wielders to a considerable distance.

Kairi fell by Sora’s side, and after a few short seconds, the Keyblade Wielders stood up and then they realized that they were a considerable amount of feet away from the dragon.  “Guys, this isn’t looking good!” Dexeres said.  Donald squawked in anguish and he started to tremble.  “It’s preparing to breathe fire on us!  I can sense the dragon’s power!  It’s beyond anything we could ever imagine!” he said.  Riku looked towards the dragon, noticing that it was indeed preparing to breathe fire towards them.  “Guys, we have to stick together.  We may not be able to survive this attack, but we need to at least block this one out and then counterattack as fast as we can before another attack can hit us.  Xylek is completely out of his mind, and he’s dead set on killing us.  We can’t let this maniac run loose!” he proclaimed, and the others agreed.  Dawn looked towards the dragon and she could feel the cold touch of fear reaching into her heart.

But even though she felt scared, Riku was there to comfort her.  “I know this is hard Dawn.  I know that right now we don’t face the best odds of winning this battle, but we need to keep pushing forward.  As long as we live and breathe, we’ll keep on fighting.  Because if we don’t protect the worlds, then who will?” he said, looking into Dawn’s eyes.  She did her best not to cry, and she held Riku close to her, looking into his eyes and then smiling.  “If this is to be our final moment together, I just want to let you know that I am so happy to have met you.  I was able to hug you, kiss you, feel your warmth.  I was able to experience so many things, and make so many friends.  I was able to experience what life was like outside the walls of my home.  Thank you for making this all possible Riku my love.” she said sweetly, now unable to hold back her tears, as she hid her head on Riku’s chest, crying and hugging him.

Riku hugged back and kissed her forehead, and he then kissed her on the lips,  holding her hands tightly in his, and he smiled.  “You changed my life forever.  You came into my heart and you made me see a whole new view of life.  You are my light in the darkness.  I love you Dawn.” he said softly.  Dawn smiled and nodded.  “I love you too.” she replied, kissing him on the lips and embracing him.  As they pulled away, they began to stand firm, as the Keyblade Wielders stood side by side, hand in hand, ready for what would come next.  “Here it comes!” Sora shouted, as the dragon unleashed a sea of golden flames that headed straight towards them.  This was it.  This was the end, they thought.  The battle would end here, that was what they were thinking.  As the golden flames seared through them, they did their best to resist the pain, but the flames started to burn on their skin, causing some of them to fall down to the floor, screaming in pain, unable to make it stop.  The flames continued on, and after the dragon closed its mouth, the Keyblade Wielders were all weakened and helpless.  They were like lifeless dolls, and even though they were greatly weakened, they still wouldn’t give up.  Dawn slowly stood up, her skin burnt and her body broken.  “As long as I live and breathe…the worlds will not fall.” she said weakly, struggling to stand.

The Keyblade Wielders are but a step away from facing ultimate disaster, as Xylek seems to be completely invincible. Is there no hope for our heroes?  Are they destined to fall?  Is there nothing they can do to stop Xylek?  Is there a tiny shred of hope still left?  Stay tuned for Chapter 48: “The Finest Hour Part 8 Of 10-The Dragon’s Wrath.”

Chapter 48: The Finest Hour Part 8 Of 10-The Dragon’s Wrath

(Start Song Here)

Dawn was weak.  She was struggling to stay on her feet.  How she could be standing at all after the dragon’s fierce and fatal attack was nothing short of a miracle.  She stood there, defiantly, gripping her Keyblade tightly, and glancing over her shoulder to her fallen friends.  She could still feel their heartbeats.  They were still alive.  “Thank goodness.” she thought.  But she knew that it wouldn’t be longer until the dragon decimated them, so she had to act fast.  Since she was the only one standing, she had to make her move count.  The dragon was panting, exhausted from the fiery flames that it had summoned, and this was the moment for Dawn to capitalize.  She cast Curaga on herself to heal her superficial wounds, and she tried to cast Raise on her friends to restore their energy, but her power alone wasn’t enough.  And since the mysterious child that had emanated from Kingdom Hearts had taken her powers of the goddess, she was left with her own strength now.  “With my dying breath, until I fall, I won’t let you hurt my friends, or the one I love!” she shouted, as she began running.

Xylek’s voice, which coursed through the dragon, was laughing.  “Your efforts are in vain.  All that you have left now is despair.  Drown in the endless abyss of darkness, and drown in the light of my destruction!” he said in a deep, monstrous voice.  And with that, the dragon flapped its wings, sending enormous gusts of wind towards Dawn, preventing her from taking another step.  She was struggling to move, because the gusts of wind kept her in place.  She couldn’t do anything.  But then she poured her willpower into her Keyblade, and she unleashed a powerful slash of light, torn from the very fabric of the universe, and she sent it directly towards the dragon’s left wing, causing it to dematerialize.  The dragon roared in pain and flapped its other wing, causing another strong gust of wind to keep Dawn at bay.

But Dawn wasn’t going to succumb to the same move twice.  She quickly moved out of the way, and then she ran as fast as she could towards the dragon, launching arcs of light that were aimed at the dragon’s feet.  The dragon, with its massive size, wasn’t able to dodge any of the attacks, and so Dawn had been able to inflict damage.  But even with the damage inflicted, it still wasn’t going to be enough to take it down.  Dawn knew this, and so she ran ever closer to the dragon, hoping to be at least a few inches off from its tail so that she could be able to climb it.  After a few seconds, she leapt up high and stabbed her Keyblade into the dragon’s tail, making the dragon roar in pain and flail its tail around, causing Dawn to hold on tight for the ride. “You won’t stop me!” she proclaimed as she held on tightly to her Keyblade.

The dragon continued to flail its tail in pain, trying to shake off Dawn, but she wouldn’t let go. When she found her chance, she let the dragon’s tail give her an extra boost as she skyrocketed as high as possible, with Keyblade in hand, and then she swooped down, almost at the speed of light, cutting off the dragon’s tail, and then climbing up its back and cutting off its other wing, afterwards running up its back towards its head.  She was about to strike at the dragon’s head, but a powerful aura prevented her from doing so.  “This must be Xylek’s protective magic.” she said to herself.  Xylek was now in his last legs, so to speak, and he couldn’t stay in his dragon form any longer.  “Bingo” Dawn thought to herself, as she continuously attacked the barrier, giving it her all to break through it so she could strike the dragon’s head and end this.  “You will not stop me, you will not foil my plans you wretched girl!” Xylek shouted, the dragon roaring with fury.  Dawn was about to deliver a fatal strike, but the dragon hit her with the back of its head and made her fall down to its feet.

---

Meanwhile, in the lower levels of the fortress, Kosaku and the other members of the Order Of The X-Blade were exhausted.  They had been fighting the endless Heartless army, and even though they were still alive, they were inches away from breaking down out of exhaustion.  Kosaku stood firm and unflinching, his armor scarred and bruised from the claws of the Heartless, his face drenched in sweat, his chest and right leg dripping out blood from wounds he had received earlier in the battle at the hands of the Heartless, and a slowly increasing fatigue.  Even though he was about to fall, he kept himself up.  His sheer willpower kept him standing, and it allowed him to ignore his wounds and his ever increasing tiredness.  “I have to do this…for Dawn and for the Keyblade Wielders.  We must buy them time!” he said to himself, and then he glanced over his shoulder at his friends, who were being overwhelmed by the Heartless.  “Stand fast my comrades, don’t give in!  Until our very last breath, we fight!” he shouted out triumphantly, and the others, tired as they were, nodded in unison, and continued to hold the line.

“There’s too many of them!  It won’t take them much longer to breach through the gate towards the upper floors!” Edeya shouted out, transforming her Keyblade into a bow and arrow, shooting countless arrows at an incredible speed, and with deadly precision, taking out all Heartless that were close to the gate.  Milani transformed her Keyblade into a Claymore, and she took out throngs of Heartles with one sweep.  A drop of sweat was forming from her brow.  She was panting and blocking attacks from the Heartless, using her Claymore to defend her back, and using her free hand to cast Mine Field.  As she did so, mines of light surrounded her allies, and all Heartless that headed towards the mines were defeated upon touching them.  Sierra was in the front, taking out Heartless after Heartless with her Keyblade, and then she transformed it into twin katanas, and she slashed away at the endless hordes.

“Hold the line!  Don’t let them through!” Damian shouted, as he transformed his Keyblade into a double edged spear, and just as he was taking out a dozen Neoshadows, an Invisible shot out spheres of darkness and hit him in the back.  “Ahh!” he shouted in pain, as he fell to his knees, the Heartless now surrounding him.  “No!!!” Trevor shouted, as he quickly ran to Damian’s aid, transforming his Keyblade into a giant shuriken, throwing it towards the Heartless surrounding Damian and taking them out.  He quickly knelt beside his friend.  “It’s all right Damian, I’m here!  Curaga!” he said, and he cured his wounds.  Even with Curaga cast, Damian was still fatally injured, but even though he was in great pain, he stood up, ready as ever to face the seemingly endless army of Heartless.  “Thank you my friend.” he said to Trevor, and they both stood back to back.

“I never imagined that things would end this way.  I was thinking of growing old, raising a family and all that.  Never did I expect my life to end here.” Damian said, giving out a sigh.  Trevor smirked and glanced over his shoulder at Damian.  “Hey, don’t give up just yet.  Besides, it wouldn’t be fair if you left all these Heartless to me!” he said, giving out a laugh.  “You know what?  Your right.  Let’s do this!  But that Invisible is mine!” he said, and with that, they both charged into the Heartless hordes.  Kosaku saw just how much his friends were giving to the battle.  They were giving it their all, they were laying their lives on the line for the salvation of the worlds.  “This is the moment we have prepared for.  This is the moment we have been training for.  Perhaps our story ends here, but this cannot be the end for the Keyblade Wielders.  Their story has yet to be finished.  They are still young and they have much to learn.  They must live, so that they can grow and gain experience, and grow wiser and stronger.  We will fight for their sake, until the very last man standing.  Dawn, I lend you my strength!” he said to himself, as he fired off a sphere of light that headed towards his beloved daughter. “Live.” he said again.

---

Back at the battle, Dawn was dodging the dragon’s attempts at stomping her, and she tried to capitalize by moving out of the way to flank the dragon by the side, but the dragon would not let her.  She was now pinned, and all she could do was dodge for her life.  She tried shooting light shards at the dragon’s eyes, but she wasn’t able to aim well enough because of the dragon’s constant attempts to squash her, so she missed.  “I can’t defeat it…there’s no hope of victory!” she said to herself, and as she said that, the dragon’s left foot loomed on top of her, and just as it was about to squash Dawn, she put her Keyblade above her head and held it with both hands, using her own strength to fend off the dragon’s foot.  She felt like her bones were about to break, but she couldn’t let anything happen to her friends.  She had to keep holding out until they were able to stand, but she didn’t know how much longer she could be able to fend off the dragon.  Her hands were feeling stiff and heavy, and her Keyblade was letting out sparks of light.  “Why do you keep clinging on to false hopes?  You are destined to fall, you cannot win this battle!”  Xylek said, enraged.

Dawn, smiling, weakly looked up.  “I will never give up!  I will never give in to the darkness!  You will never get the best of me!  I won’t let you bring destruction to the worlds!  I will fight you until the bitter end!”  she said defiantly, making her point clear.  Xylek, seeing as how she was going to be crushed any second, simply laughed.  “I admire your perseverance and your undeniable willpower.  Your heart truly is a mighty weapon.  But that alone has proven that it cannot save you.  But at least you will die a heroine.  That alone is something worth your pitiful struggle.” he said while chuckling.  Dawn felt the weight of the dragon’s foot crushing down on her, and she was indeed seconds away from being crushed.  But suddenly, she saw a portal open up above them, and a sphere of light made its way through.  She could instantly recognize the sphere of light’s point of origin.  “Father?” she asked to herself.

She could feel the strength, power and love in the sphere of light.  The hopes of her father were put into that sphere, and she quickly absorbed it, much to Xylek’s dismay, because the moment she received its powers, her wounds instantly healed, and her power was increased tenfold!  She slashed the dragon’s foot and leapt back, raising her Keyblade high in the air and casting Raise on her friends, instantly restoring their strength to them.  They were all now on their feet, and Xylek was now helpless.  “No!  This is impossible!” he shouted, the dragon roaring in fury.  Dawn glanced over her shoulder at her friends and then she rallied them over.  “Come to me everyone, lend me your strength!”  she pleaded, and so the Keyblade Wielders did so without question.  They fused their powers with hers, and instantly, her body became enveloped in a powerful aura of light, and then she dashed forward towards the dragon.

“By the light of my friends, the light of my bloodline and the light of my true love, I unleash the power of our hearts, into the most powerful light of all!” she shouted, as she started to weave and dart around the dragon, performing her newly acquired skill, Light Splicer.  As she disappeared and reappeared with finesse and grace, she single handedly attacked the dragon, and now it was helpless to do anything.  Mickey looked at the impressive display of power and he was amazed by it.  “Gosh, Dawn sure has a lot of potential, doesn’t she?” he said, looking towards Riku.  “She sure does.” Riku said, smiling and seeing the dragon meet its demise.  But the dragon wasn’t about to die just yet.  “I will not let this end on your terms!  Perish!” Xylek shouted, as the dragon charged its energy, its eyes flaring with an undeniable amount of power.  “Huh?  What?” Dawn said as she kept attacking, keeping her guard up at all times.  Riku immediately noticed what was going on.  “Dawn, get out of there, he’s going to unleash fire on you!” he shouted, but Dawn couldn’t hear.  Riku tried reaching Dawn, but it was too late, as the fire engulfed her completely.  “No!!!”  Riku shouted, his face in shock.

“This can’t be!”  he said, bursting into tears.  But the others noticed something that Riku did not, and Sora placed his hand on Riku’s shoulder.  “Look, up there!” Sora pointed out.  As Riku looked up to where Sora was pointing, he noticed that the fire that had engulfed Dawn was surrounding her, like if it were strings of water flowing all around her.  He opened his eyes wide in awe, for he saw Dawn, her hands clasped in prayer, with angel wings coming out of her back!  Her eyes had turned silverish white, and her hair was now a dark green color.  Xylek looked on, petrified and frozen in place.  “No, this cannot be!  You cannot possibly possess so much power!” he said, trying to make sense of what was happening.  Dawn opened her hand, and all the fire that had threatened to engulf her was now being sucked into her hand.  After she finished, she made her Keyblade levitate in midair, as she turned the flames into chains of light, and then she wrapped the dragon up with her chains, tightening them and then holding them with strong hands.  “Now, you face defeat.” Dawn said, and with that, she pulled hard on the chains, causing the dragon to explode in a blinding flash of light and fire.

The Keyblade Wielders looked on in amazement, and as the dragon faded out of existence, Xylek fell down, severely weakened, his body practically on the verge of collapse.  “No…I used the power of the dragon!  That was more than enough to defeat you!  What must I do to kill you all!?” he shouted, clenching his fists and struggling to stand.  Dawn, who had reverted back to normal, glared at Xylek.  “When will you understand that we will always be in your way?  That no matter what you do, we’ll always be here to stop you?  Apparently, you’ll never come to understand that.” she said, standing alongside her friends.  Xylek stayed silent for a few seconds, and he simply smirked and laughed.  “This isn’t over yet.  Not by a long shot!” he said, and instantly, a powerful wave of twilight emanated and expanded from him.  Now they were transported into what seemed to be a barren wasteland.

“I wonder how far I can test your resolve and mettle.” he smirked, and as the ominous twilight engulfed him, the Keyblade Wielders stood firm, ready for whatever he was going to dish out next.  But what happened in the next few seconds came as a shock to them.  When the twilight dispersed, Xyle had taken the appearance of Roxas, with Terra’s armor and Aqua’s Keyblade!  “No!” Xion gasped as she saw Roxas’ face grinning.  She knew that this was Xylek’s doing, it was all a mind game to drive her insane.  She knew it was a mind game, but Xylek looked just like Roxas.  The others were equally as shocked.  “What did you do to them!?” Mickey shouted angrily.  “I simply absorbed all their powers and essence from their bodies, and I took them for my own use.  And I have to say, their powers are all quite unique.” he said as he smirked, even his voice sounding like Roxas.  Xion felt uneasy, and she felt like breaking down into tears, for she couldn’t believe what she was seeing.  Xylek simply smirked.  “You will now know true despair!” he said as he laughed maniacally.  The Keyblade Wielders were now speechless.  Xylek had taken the essence of Roxas, Terra and Aqua!

Chapter 49: The Finest Hour Part 9 Of 10-Xylek’s Trump Card

(Start Song Here)

Xylek had finally gotten his advantage.  He had transported himself and the Keyblade Wielders to a barren wasteland, devoid of life.  He had them speechless and uncertain of what to do.  He contained the essences of Roxas, Terra and Aqua, and if the Keyblade Wielders tried to attack, they would be harming their friends and they would be destroying their hearts, but he didn’t say anything to them just to see if they would attack or not.  He had finally gotten the opportunity to strike back at them, and he was enjoying the sorrow and shock in their faces.  “Now, all of you will die!” he said in Roxas’ voice, causing them to feel ever more paralyzed.  He then leapt up and swooped down at them and struck the ground, sending immense shockwaves that knocked them all down.  He then did a back flip and started to fire off homing Blizagga darts, aiming with deadly precision.  The Keyblade Wielders blocked and doddged as best as they could, but they couldn’t bring themselves to attack.  Xion in particular was traumatized.  She saw Xylek with Roxas’ face, and it made her unable to attack.

Mickey, feeling just as uncertain and saddened as the rest of his friends, tried his best to overcome this turn of events.  “Fellas, Xylek’s just doing this to mess with our minds!  It has to be an illusion!  We have to snap out of it!” he said, as he shot out a sphere of light towards Xylek, who let the attack hit him on purpose.  As the attack hit, a piece of Terra’s armor fell off, and as it fell, it faded away.  “Good work, imbeciles.  Now you’ve taken away a part of Terra’s essence.” Xylek said while smirking.  “No, that’s not true!” Mickey exclaimed, as he clashed blades with Xylek, the both of them moving across the barren wasteland, constantly keeping their guard up.  Mickey didn’t want to believe.  He couldn’t believe.  He had no intention of believing what Xylek was saying.

But, as he attacked Xylek one more time, and another piece of Terra’s armor faded away, he was able to confirm what Xylek was saying.  “Oh no, fellas, he’s telling the truth!” Mickey shouted in distress, and he leapt back a considerable distance from Xylek.  “I…I hurt Terra.  I took away part of his essence…Terra…I’m sorry.” Mickey said, feeling guilty for his actions.  Riku put his hand on Mickey’s shoulder.  “There’s no way that you could have known that what Xylek was saying was true.  He kept the fact hidden so that we’d hurt him on purpose.  But now that we know, we have to approach this carefully.  There has to be a way we can defeat him without bringing harm to our friends.  There just has to be.” he said, as he glanced over the barren wasteland towards Xylek, who was more than pleased with himself.

Wasting no time, Xylek came down upon the Keyblade Wielders mercilessly, continuosly launching dark daggers and waves of twilit energy, rendering them helpless.  The Keyblade Wielders were now dodging for their lives, for Xylek’s attacks only continued to increase in power and speed.  “We have to find a way to inflict harm on Xylek.  If we just keep dodging like this, we won’t get anywhere!  We have to think of something!” Vanitas shouted, as he tried summoning Unversed to his aid, but each time he tried summoning the Unversed, Xylek made them all vanish in the blink of an eye with a snap of his fingers.  Dexeres also tried summoning Nobodies, but Xylek effortlessly mauled through them in mere seconds.  “All our attempts at summoning reinforcements are useless!  We have to think of something else!”  Dexeres shouted, and then he exclaimed in pain as a dark dagger hit him just below his chest.  The others glanced over to him in concern, but Dexeres simply pulled the dagger out like if it was nothing.

---

Meanwhile, at Radiant Garden, Kyle was still unconscious.  Apparently, he had fallen into a coma, and he hadn’t opened his eyes since his capture by Jexana’s hands.  The local moogles had found him just outside the city, and concerned, they brought him into the safety of the city. They had asked the citizens if they recognized him, and they all nodded.  “That’s Ventus and Trish’s boy!  What happened to them?” they would ask.  They had pointed the moogles in the direction of the house where Ventus, Trish and Kyle lived, and so the moogles took it upon themselves to take care of Kyle.  There were four moogles in total, and they would alternate turns in two’s so that they could be able to attend to their own families.  Even with all the diligent care in the world, Kyle would not wake up.  The moogles were saddened and concerned.  “I wonder where his parents are kupo?” one of the moogles asked.  The other one shrugged sadly and then fixed his gaze on Kyle.  “It seems as though he’s having a nightmare kupo.  It pains me to see him like this kupo!” the other one said, watching Kyle struggling in his unconsciousness.

Kyle was indeed having a nightmare.  An inescapable nightmare that was tearing him apart.  In his nightmare, he was running from a faceless foe, and all he could see around him was darkness, a terrifying darkness closing in on him.  In the horizon, he saw two silhouettes walking towards him.  At first, he couldn’t recognize who they were, but after running closer to them, he recognized who they were.  “Mom, Dad!” Kyle shouted, but the moment he called out to them, they faded away instantly.  At that, Kyle was shocked.  “What is this?  Why can’t I wake up!?  Mom…Dad…will I ever see you again?” he said, his voice echoing in his own mind.  He didn’t even have time to think, as he felt his body being torn asunder, and when he looked back, he saw the faceless foe again, but this time, fire was emanating from its body, lighting up the darkness that surrounded Kyle.  “What is this…?” he asked to himself, confused and desperate.

He struggled to free himself of the flaming, faceless foe, but he felt his body get heavier the more he struggled.  “How did it all come to this?  Just when I finally had a family, and a home, and friends…all this had to happen.  Why?” he asked himself.  That is all he could ask repeatedly, as he felt his body getting heavier, as if he was being bound by the heaviest chains imaginable.  “I can’t believe this has happened.” he said to himself.  But he still clung on to a small bit of hope, a small ray of light, a hope that he could be able to wake up from this nightmare.  All he wanted to do was wake up and hug Ventus and Trish, to hold them close and never let them go.  That’s all he wanted to do right now.  He wanted to feel the comfort that only his loving parents could give him.  But all he could do now was keep fighting against the faceless foe, locked in his own mind.

But there is one thought that kept coming to him.  “Fight.” he uttered.  That simple word.  A four letter word that to him, meant everything.  “Fight….fight for my parents…fight for my friends…fight for the worlds…fight and never give up.” he muttered to himself, continuously repeating the words, and then shouting them out as his battle cry.  “You may have my mind, you may have my body and spirit, but you won’t have my heart!  I will fight until the very end!” Kyle said to the faceless foe, and he summoned all the breath he could from the bottom of his lungs, and he gave out a defiant battle cry.  He was able to loosen the chains that were binding him, and he started to strike back at the faceless foe, pushing the darkness away.  “I won’t give in to the darkness.  I have to be strong.  With my Dark Light, I’ll finish you off!” he said, and then he summoned all his energy, transforming into his Feral Form.  His claws grew, and his eyes turned a fiery yellow, and his power increased, making the faceless foe look weaker in comparison.  Feral Kyle was seeping Dark Light from his entire body, and he was ready to keep on fighting.  “I’ll fight to the very end!” he shouted defiantly.

---

Back at the barren wasteland, the Keyblade Wielders were being beaten down, one by one.  Kairi attempted to cast a protective barrier for herself and her friends, but Xylek came down upon her and held her by the throat.  “Nothing can protect you now.” he said while smirking, and he sent an electric shock through her whole body, causing her to faint, and then he flung her away, and she fell down near a boulder.  Sora, enraged, tried to throw his Keyblade at Xylek, but Riku stopped him.  “No, you can’t!  If you strike Xylek, you’ll be striking our friends!” he said, trying to calm Sora down.  Xylek then took it upon himself to place his hand on the ground, causing stone spikes to rise up, impaling them both and making them fall to the ground.  Mickey, who was horrified at the sight of his friends being massacred, headed towards Xylek, casting Blind to buy himself some time so that he could be able to go heal Sora, Riku and Kairi, but Xylek wasn’t affected in the slightest by the spell, and then he teleported right in front of Mickey, punching him in the face and then slamming him to the ground.  He was enjoying himself quite much.

Donald and Goofy tried to cast Stop in the hopes that they could be able to freeze Xylek in place, but it was an effort done in vain, as Xylek simply summoned a whirlpool of water under their feet, suffocating them with the raging waters that the whirlpool contained until they fainted.  Dexeres, Vanitas, Dawn and Gilgamesh all charged forward to defend their friends, but Xylek stabbed Aqua’s Keyblade into the ground, then infusing it with the power of Earth, summoning a giant claymore. He then took hold of the claymore and flailed away at them, beating upon them mercilessly and with brutal force.  He cast them all aside, and they lay on the ground, broken and beaten.  Xion was the only one who remained standing, and she wasn’t about to give up easily.  Xylek smirked and he laughed.  “Now then, I shall leave you witness to this, the death of your precious friends.  Watch in horror as I kill them all!” he said, charging up a fatal attack.

Just as he was about to unleash the final blow, Xion got in the way just in time, and she blocked the attack, trying her best to hold it back.  She planted her feet firmly in the ground, and she could feel the power and destruction that Xylek’s attack was capable of.  “Why do you keep struggling?  You are on your last legs.  Just give up now and I’ll give you a quick and painless death.”  he said in Roxas’ voice, causing Xion to greatly weaken.  “No!  I can’t hurt Xylek, or I’ll be hurting Roxas, and not just him, but Terra and Aqua too!  This isn’t fair!” she said, feeling her knees giving way.  She was now bursting in tears, and she could feel her clothes ripping slightly from the sheer force of Xylek’s brutal attack.  She even felt like her bones were about to break, for she felt her arms weakening ever more, her feet grinding against the ground.  “My friends…” she said, glancing over her shoulder at them, as they were all unconscious.  “Will we all die here?” she thought to herself.

“Let your friends rest in peace.  If you continue to struggle against me, all they’ll do is suffer.  You know that I cannot be stopped.  Stop your pointless fighting, and I shall give you all an honorable death.  A hero’s death.” Xylek said, clearly enjoying Xion’s pain.  Xion remained silent, and then she planted her feet ever more firmly into the ground, and she stood firm and unwavering.  “I won’t let you kill my friends!”  Xion yelled, her tears now turning into rage, her voice elevating defiantly.  “Very well.  Then you shall have a painful and agonizing death.  Either way, I do not care.” Xylek replied, as he applied more force to Xion.  But then, all of a sudden, he stopped.  “What?  What is this!?” Xylek exclaimed furiously.  Xion was just as surprised, for Xylek had stopped right in his tracks.  Soon after, a golden aura started to surround his body, and then Aqua’s Keyblade dropped to the ground, and he stood straight, being held firm by an invisible force.  “What in blazes is this!?” he kept exclaiming, and then, all of a sudden, Roxas’ spirit came out of Xylek’s body.  “Xion, now, this is your chance!  You have to strike him, here and now!” he said.  Xion was speechless, and all she wanted to do was kiss Roxas.

But when she reached out for him, her hand passed through his phantom body.  Roxas looked at her sadly, for all he wanted to do was hold her in his arms, but he knew that he could never do this again.  “Xion…I wish we could have been able to live together.” he said softly.  Xion gasped.  “W-what do you mean?  D-don’t tell me that your really-“ she started to say, but Roxas cut her off. “Dead.  Yes…the only reason why we are still alive is because Xylek holds our hearts.  But I can’t live this way, and neither can Terra or Aqua.  We won’t let Xylek use us to destroy everything we love and care about.  So that’s why…you have to strike now.” he said, his face unwavering, even though he was on the verge of breaking down in sorrow.  Xion stuttered and trembled, falling on her knees.  “N-no, I can’t!” she replied softly.  At that, Terra and Aqua’s spirits came out of Xylek’s body as well, and they stood by Roxas and looked at Xion.  “We can’t let you all die because of us.” Terra said.  “That’s right.  You have to strike now, because if not, Xylek will have his way.  We’re trying to hold him back as much as we can, but our strength won’t last much longer.  You have to strike now.” Aqua said in a gentle, caring tone.

“But the three of you will die…” Xion said, bursting into tears.  “We know…and it’s a price we’re willing to pay for the salvation of the universe.  There’s no other way Xion…I’m sorry.” Roxas said, looking into her misty eyes.  Xion looked back towards her friends, who were all unconscious, and then she looked at Xylek, who was enraged and trying to bring Roxas, Terra and Aqua into his control again.  Sadly, Xion stood up and held her Keyblade firmly in her hand and she nodded silently.  Roxas, Terra and Aqua nodded in unison, and they surrounded Xylek, spreading their arms and emanating a radiant light that divided itself into three beams that formed the Trinity triangle.  “Now Xion!” Roxas shouted, and so Xion charged up her power and unleashed a devastating beam of light that joined with the Trinity triangle, and the light became ever more brighter, and Terra’s armor started to fade away from Xylek’s body.

At that, Terra’s spirit started to fade away as well, and he smiled and waved farewell.  “Defend the worlds, and save the universe.” he said, and then faded away into a stream of light.  Aqua’s Keyblade now started to disappear, and Aqua’s spirit started to fade away.  “Never lose sight of what’s important in your life.  Keep the light of hope burning strong in your heart.” she said, as she nodded and faded away into a stream of light joining with Terra’s.  And then, Roxas’ face started to fade away, reverting Xylek’s face back to his own.  Xion looked at Roxas, who smiled and nodded.  “I love you Roxas.” Xion said, covering her mouth with her hand as she cried.  He then walked towards her and touched her face, and for a moment, Xion could feel his touch, so warm and loving.  “I love you too Xion.  Always have, always will.” he said, and he held her close and gave her a last passionate kiss, and she kissed him back with all her might.

They hugged each other and kept kissing each other, for as much as they could, and Xion could feel Roxas’ loving warmth.  As they pulled away from the kiss, Roxas smiled and nodded.  “It’s all up to you guys now.” he said, as he faded away into a stream of light that joined Terra and Aqua, as they ascended to the heavens.  Xion smiled and nodded, as tears flowed down her cheeks.  Xylek was consumed by the Trinity of Light, and now he reverted back to his previous self, and he lay on the ground, his body bruised and scarred.  The light from the Trinity spread towards all of the Keyblade Wielders, restoring them to their full strength, and as they regained consciousness, they saw Xylek on the ground and then Mickey ran towards Xion.  “What happened!?”  Xion smiled as one last tear rolled down her cheek.  “Roxas, Terra and Aqua…they sacrificed their lives for us to live on, to save the universe.” she said.  The others looked on in sadness and they felt speechless.  “It’s all finally over n-“ Xion was about to say, but suddenly, they all heard Xylek’s maniacal laughter, and now they were all transported into what seemed to be an ancient shrine.  Seconds after, Xylek stood up and cloaked himself in armor, and he grinned.  “This isn’t over yet.  Not while I still live.” he said.

Chapter 50: The Finest Hour Part 10 Of 10-Chaotic Twilight

(Start Song Here)

It was something unbelievable.  The Keyblade Wielders didn’t know what else to do.  They had tried everything they could to bring Xylek down, but it seemed that the more they brought him close to death, the more powerful he became.  Even Roxas, Terra and Aqua’s sacrifice wasn’t enough to stop him for good, as he was clearly still alive.  As Xylek’s body became enveloped in a silver, dragon-like armor, he laughed maniacally, feeling satisfied at the shocked faces of the Keyblade Wielders.  “Gaze into the manifestation of death and evil itself.  It is I, Xylek, the conqueror of the whole universe!” he proclaimed, as enormous, crystalline wings sprouted from his back.  Terrifying, jaw dropping dragon’s wings.  Instantly, the ground started to tremble, and the Keyblade Wielders suddenly found themselves trying to stay on their feet.  “Guys, we have to end this!  If he keeps increasing his power, he’ll be unstoppable!” Sora shouted.  The others nodded in unison, and with that, they charged forward, all heading towards Xylek.  “Fools, have you learned nothing!?” Xylek asked, swiping them off instantly.

Getting back to their feet, the Keyblade Wielders charged head on again, giving no regard to their own lives.  If they had to give up their own lives for Xylek’s demise, then they would do so without question.  As they prepared to attack, Xylek summoned lightning from the clouds, as they started to swirl in the sky, as if it was a giant black hole. Lightning came from the skies, and Xylek channeled it through his body and unleashed it at the Keyblade Wielders.  Some of them were flung back by the force of the attack, while the others were able to block it. Then, Xylek absorbed all the clouds that loomed above him, and used them to form a powerful, furiously strong tornado, and he brought it down upon them.  They all stuck their Keyblades to the ground, so as to not be pulled into the tornado, but they were barely able to hold on.

As the tornado died down, Kairi, Dawn and Xion tried to combine their magic to cast Ultima, but Xylek stopped them short by slamming the ground with his Keyblade, causing cracks to form in the earth and opening a fissure.  The three women gasped and started to fall through the fissure.  Sora caught side of them falling, and he headed towards them as fast as he could, and he was able to grab Kairi’s hand, and Kairi held Dawn’s, and Dawn held Xion’s.  They were all dangling from the endless abyss that awaited them below.  “Hold on, don’t let go!”  Sora shouted, as he struggled to hold on to Kairi.  Riku also came to help, grabbing Dawn and Xion’s hands.  “On the count of three, we pull them up!” Riku said to Sora.  They both nodded in unison, and so they started to count.  “One…two..thr-“

But just as they were about to pull them out, Xylek came upon them with a wall of fire that was closing in on them.  Dawn’s hand slipped from Riku’s, but he was able to catch her again, and he held Xion’s hand firmly.  Sora kept holding on to Kairi.  “Riku!” Sora exclaimed, signaling at the wall of fire that now surrounded them completely.  “No, we can’t die here!” Riku said, and just when they thought that all hope was lost, Mickey and the others broke through the wall of fire and rescued them.  “Come on fellas, no time to lose!”  Mickey uttered, as Xylek started to charge his energy.  Something big was coming, and it wasn’t going to be good.  “There is no escape, nowhere to hide!” Xylek shouted, as he raised his hand up, causing stone pillars to jet out of the ground constantly.  The Keyblade Wielders dodged and broke through the pillars, trying to counterattack, but there was no opening to attack from.  Dexeres turned around and used a wide radius attack to wipe out the pillars coming towards him and his friends, and then he launched a wave of twilight towards Xylek, who counterattacked with a wave of twilight.

Xylek and Dexeres planted their feet firmly into their ground, their twilit waves of equal strength.  As they were locked in place, the Keyblade Wielders took this opportunity to attack a now vulnerable Xylek.  Sora flung his Keyblade, performing his Strike Raid attack, and then Riku followed up with Dark Splicer, with Donald casting Meteor and Goofy performing his Goofy Smash attack.  “Come on guys, your up next!” Riku shouted to the others, and so Kairi performed Ars Arcanum, slashing Xylek’s armor all over, while Dawn and Xion both united their powers to launch a powerful beam of light that pierced through Xylek, and then Dexeres and Vanitas combined their attacks, both leaping up high into the air, and then swooping down for a double Zantetsuken attack.  Mickey then shot out four spheres of light and placed them above Xylek’s head, glancing over to Gilgamesh.  “Now!” Mickey shouted, and then Gilgamesh came and summoned his extra arms and weapons.  “Gilgamesh Morphing Time!” he shouted gleefully, as he attacked Xylek with his Mightiest Sword attack, detonating the light spheres Mickey had placed, causing a huge explosion, from which a blinding light emanated.

After the light died down, the Keyblade Wielders stood firm, cautiously alert, for anything could happen now.  Even after all their attacks, there Xylek stood, his armor shattered everywhere.  “You fools.  That will not be enough to stop me!” he shouted, as he sent forth a giant wave of water, slamming it down against the Keyblade Wielders.  “Everyone, brace yourselves!” Riku shouted, as the giant wave of water crashed down on them, dragging them across the shrine and crashing into the wall.  They all fell at the base of the shrine, and then they all looked up and saw Xylek summoning giant blades of darkness, flinging them to the sky and shattering them, causing dark shards to rain on the Keyblade Wielders.  They tried to block and dodge as best as they could, but eventually they were impaled by the dark shards.  Dawn started to run up the wall, leaping from it and charging headfirst towards Xylek.

They clashed blades, and as they did, thunder crackled in the sky, echoing the furious clang of the Keyblades striking one another.  For every time they clashed, the shrine would keep collapsing, and the strong winds would blow only stronger.  “You will be stopped!  You are not a God!” Dawn proclaimed, striking Xylek as fast as she could.  At that, Xylek simply laughed and shook his head.  “On the contrary, I do think I am a God.  A God of destruction that will weave chaos and unleash it upon the whole universe!” he replied, applying force and speed to his attacks, amplifying the power of twilight and sending Dawn pummeling down to the ground.  As he headed towards Dawn to finish her off, Riku got in the way and counterattacked, managing to strike Xylek just below his rib cage.  Xylek grunted in pain, and Riku capitalized on this momentary weakness and he slashed him as many times as he could, knowing that this could be one of the only openings he’d be able to find.

But Xylek soon grabbed Riku by the throat and then slammed him against the wall, then turning his attention towards the other Keyblade Wielders.  “You are all truly pathetic.  You will never defeat me!  Bask in the chaos of the power of twilight!  Witness the wrath of my powers!” he said to them.  Sora shook his head and clenched his fists.  “We won’t stop until we’ve defeated you for good!  Your going down!  Guys, now!” he shouted, as Donald and Goofy, who were right above Xylek, jumped on top of him and restrained his arms and legs, and then Kairi cast Bind on him, assuring that he would not be able to escape his bonds.  Xion delivered a barrage of devastating strikes, and then Mickey attacked furiously fast, showing no mercy. Dexeres, Vanitas and Gilgamesh combined their powers and formed a giant version of Excalibur, flailing away at Xylek without hesitation.  Then, Riku and Dawn both combined their powers to perform the Death Slicer, an attack in which the both of them alternated strikes and moved gracefully and with great precision at the same time, making pieces of Xylek’s armor fall to the ground.

---

Meanwhile, throughout all the worlds, chaos was unraveling.  In the Dwarf Woodlands, the trees were being ripped from the ground by violent tornados, and the animals of the forest were being decimated.  Thunder crackled and the winds became stronger, destroying villages and farms.  All the worlds were being destroyed bit by bit, being consumed by darkness and by the fury of the elements.  Disney Castle was being dismantled, as continuous earthquakes made the castle collapse, sending the citizens into a panic.  Disney Town was already in flames and with most of its buildings devastated.  The citizens were running for safety, wanting desperately to live.  Queen Minnie led on a group of refugees who had lost their homes, and she led them all towards higher ground, hoping to escape the destruction of their home.  Chip and Dale accompanied the queen, and the rest of their friends and fellow townspeople looked on as their home was being destroyed.  “Gosh…I hope the King’s okay…” Chip said sadly, as the wind blew strongly on the devastated town.  Queen Minnie nodded and looked over to everyone else sadly.  “I’m sure he’s safe.  Our friends are safe, I’m sure of it!” she replied.

The worlds were all bearing witness to the destruction that was unraveling before them.  In the Keyblade Graveyard, Ethan, who was perched on the highest mountain in that barren wasteland, saw dark and ominous clouds forming in the sky.  The cold wind blew past him, and he held on to his Keyblade, which was stabbed in the ground.  He sat there, feeling calm and unwavered by everything that was happening.  “So this is how it all ends…” he said to himself.  He knew that the odds of the Keyblade Wielders succeeding were very low, but he still had that one hope that they could bring Xylek down.  “Good luck guys…you’ll need it.” he said, looking up to the sky, as if his words would be carried by the wind.  Soon after, it started to rain violently.  Ethan smiled and stood up, pulling out his Keyblade from the ground and walking away.  “The end of our world…”

In Salmon Falls, Kenai and Koda looked upwards towards the mountains alongside the other bears, as the lights in the sky touching the mountains faded away slowly, giving way to the earth, which started to decay.  The rivers started to dry up, and the trees started withering away.  They didn’t understand what was going on, and they were helpless.  In the far reaches of space, Jim Hawkins and the rest of the crew watched a black hole form from an incredibly far distance, pulling in everything that got in its way.  An entire planet was being sucked in, and all they could do was watch.  Every world was now teetering on the edge of despair.  The worlds were coming to a cruel end.  Everything as they knew it was changing for the worse.  And there was nothing they could do to stop it.  They had nowhere to run.  All they could do was wait for their demise.

And in The Lanes Between, Maleficent, Pete, Eraqus and Guardian Xehanort were all watching these events unfold.  Pete was never one to care for anything, but even he had to admit that he was worried for the destruction of the worlds. Guardian Xehanort and Eraqus remained lifelessly quiet, and Maleficent’s face showed no cinch of sadness, no hint of worry.  She simply kept quiet and watched.  Pete was feeling a bit uneasy, and then he glanced over to Maleficent and he scratched his head.  “Uh, say, Maleficent, isn’t there anything we can do?  Even if we have to help the bozos, at least we can try to stop all this from happening!” he said, hoping to get Maleficent to agree with him.  But Maleficent simply turned around and started to walk away, with no answer.  Pete then spread his arms wide and exclaimed.  “Maleficent, you can’t let this happen! With all the worlds destroyed, you won’t have anything to conquer!” he shouted.  At that, Maleficent stopped.  Guardian Xehanort and Eraqus glanced over at her, and she simply turned around and went towards Pete.  “Be that as it may, this is not our battle.  We cannot interfere.  Let those imbeciles succeed or fail at their own risk.” she said, as she turned around and walked away again, with Pete, Guardian Xehanort and Eraqus following closely.

---

Back at the shrine, the battle was intensifying.  Xylek had beaten and bruised the Keyblade Wielders to the point of exhaustion, and now they were truly standing on their last legs.  They had fought back endlessly, but each time they continued to resist, Xylek kept coming down upon them.  They were all tired now, and not even healing spells could be able to heal their wounds fast enough.  Mickey looked at all his friends, and they saw their expressions.  They were afraid.  Afraid of failing…afraid of dying.  “Are we really destined to fail?  Is this how we’re going to die?” Mickey thought to himself sadly.  He didn’t want to believe that all the sacrifices that had been made were in vain, but right now, that was looking to be the truth.  They fought back with all their might and with heart and willpower, but even that wasn’t enough to stop the unstoppable Xylek.  “Perish now!” Xylek shouted, as he enveloped himself in his dragon wings, transforming into a giant, heavily armored silver dragon.  He stomped the ground with his feet and caused violent earthquakes to take place, further weakening the Keyblade Wielders.  Xylek then headed towards Dawn and bound her in chains of flames.

Everyone tried to come to her aid, but Xylek wiped them all off with his tail.  He then turned his attention back at Dawn.  “Now, I shall kill you, and all of your dear friends will break.  Their minds and hearts will be utterly crushed, and the worlds shall be mine!” he said as he snarled at her.  Dawn tried to speak, but she felt so tired and defeated.  She was bleeding from her forehead, and her vision started to blur.  Her body went numb, and all she could see was Xylek’s mouth opening, revealing the fire inside ready to engulf her.  And just as she closed her eyes, ready to receive the final blow, she didn’t feel it.  At first, she thought that perhaps she had already died, but when she opened her eyes, she saw that Riku had gotten in the way, his body engulfed in flames, and then he fell down at Xylek’s feet.  Dawn opened her eyes wide and felt horror and shock.  “Riku…Riku!!!!” she shouted, bursting into tears, feeling her heart shattering into a million pieces.

Xylek simply laughed and felt rather pleased with himself.  “Ah, it looks like your lover took the blow for you.  Hmph, no matter, his effort was in vain, for I can still kill you.” he said, preparing his next attack.  At that, Dawn’s eyes filled with unspeakable rage, her tears rolling down in anger and frustration, and the chains of flames breaking.  “Riku!!!!!” she shouted in sorrow, her ear deafening scream echoing through the shrine.  “Screaming will do you no g-“ he started to say, when all of a sudden, he felt an incredibly powerful beam of light pierce through his chest, causing him to stagger.  “W-what is this!?” he asked, confused.  As he and the Keyblade Wielders looked up, they saw a shining door of light, and from it, the light of Kingdom Hearts shone, radiant and majestic.  From the door, the child that had appeared before appeared once more, causing Xylek to freeze in place from fear.  “Not you again!” he shouted.

The child stood beside Dawn, who was still suffering from the shock of Riku’s sacrifice, and he put his hand on her shoulder.  “He will survive.  His wounds are fatal, but he will live.” he said to her reassuringly.  At that, Dawn nodded and she cried, holding Riku’s burnt body close to her.  The flames had burned his right arm and most of his legs, but part of his upper body and his face remained untouched by the flames.  Riku was unconscious, but not dying.  The child then turned towards Xylek, who started to to attack him relentlessly.  “Die, you insolent brat!” Xylek roared as he breathed fiery flames towards the child.  The child, in turn, was impervious to all harm, simply continuing to walk towards Xylek calmly.  Xylek was now losing his temper, and so he decided to attack the Keyblade Wielders, but the child created a protective barrier, so that they wouldn’t be harmed.  “You have brought severe destruction to all worlds, and you have overflowed the balance of all things.  For that, you must be punished.” the child said in a somber tone, his grim expression reflecting Xylek’s fears.  “No!  I will not yield to you, you stupid brat!  Kingdom Hearts is mine, and mine alone!” he proclaimed, whipping his tail at the child.  But all attacks were useless, as the child either stopped the attacks or absorbed them completely.

The child then glanced over his shoulder at the Keyblade Wielders, and then he raised his arm up high and then opened his hand, his palm seeping off an incredible energy.  “Protectors of the universe, unite your powers with mine, and together, we will defeat this troublesome pest.” he declared, urging them to feed him power.  And with that, one by one, the Keyblade Wielders stood up, each of them raising their Keyblades and pouring out all their power into the child.  Donald amplified the flow of energy by pouring out all his magic skills from his staff into the flow of energy, and Goofy put his shiled beside Donald’s staff to give even more power, and Gilgamesh channeled the power of all of his weapons into that of the Keyblade Wielders, causing an incredible mass of twilight to form in the child’s hand, creating a sword of light and darkness, the Twilight Maxima.  “Kingdom Hearts, lend me your infinite power and strength, bestow this blade with your might, and crush the disruptor of the balance.  Give me power!” the child said, and an overwhelmingly powerful light seeped through Kingdom Hearts straight towards the Twilight Maxima.

Xylek was unable to counterattack, he wasn’t able to do anything at all, and the child floated above him, looking down on him and shaking his head in disappointment.  “You are a wretch.” the child said, and then, with his right hand, he raised Xylek high into the air and held him in place, and the Keyblade Wielders were bearing witness to the events unfolding.  The child charged all of his energy into the Twilight Maxima, the blade growing ever more powerful and stronger, reaching unbelievably incredible amounts of mind bending power.  “Now, receive the twilight of judgment…” the child said, as he delivered a powerful, fatal strike straight towards Xylek, enveloping him in twilit energy.  “Nooooo!!!!” Xylek roared, disintegrating from the powerful force of twilight that the child had attacked him with.  “This cannot be…I refuse to…die...I will never…die….” Xylek said, as his voice faded away.

(End Song Here)

As the powerful twilit energy vanished, so too did Xylek, causing the whole shrine to come to a standstill.  Now everything was deadly silent.  The Keyblade Wielders weren’t ready to celebrate their victory, for they thought Xylek would emerge again at any moment, but then the child came down, the Twilight Maxima fading into nothingness as he walked towards them.  “The destruction of the worlds has been stopped, but that does not mean that the damage done has been repaired.  All worlds have been scarred deeply by Xylek’s foolish ambitions.” the child said, shaking his head in disappointment. The Keyblade Wielders looked at each other unceasingly, but then Sora stepped forward.  “At least Xylek has finally been stopped, we’ve stopped his plan from succeeding, right?” he asked.  The child shook his head in disagreement.  “No…this is far from over.” he said.

With those words, the Keyblade Wielders gasped.  “You mean that everything we did here was for nothing!?” Vanitas replied angrily, clenching his fists.  The child raised his hand and asked for their attention.  “You are wrong.  The light of Kingdom Hearts guided me here so that I could assist you in defeating Xylek, for now, your path has been set.  Your true task has been shed to light.  Now you must prepare for the war that is dawning over the worlds.  A war that if not stopped, will cause chaos and disorder, sending the worlds plummeting into despair.” the child said, making his words clear.  The Keyblade Wielders stood there, letting the words sink in.  Dawn, who put Riku gently aside Sora and the others, stood in front of the child and stared at him.  “We will be ready.  We are ready for the war that is coming upon us.  We will do all in our power to save the worlds from the edge of the abyss.  You can count on that.” she said with determination.  At that, the child smiled and nodded appreciatively.  “Then my task here is done.  Fare thee well Keyblade Wielders, I wish you the best of luck for the coming storm.  Never lose faith, for the light of Kingdom Hearts will always be with you.” the child said reassuringly.

And so, the child slowly faded away, being absorbed into the door to Kingdom Hearts, and as the child completely faded into the radiant light, the doors started to close, and then disappeared in thin air.  Dawn turned around to face her friends, who were all tired and beaten from the tremendous battle they had endured.  It wasn’t easy.  The sacrifices made were of great scale, and Dawn knew that words alone would not make amends.  But she knew that she had to at least give words of courage to her friends.  “Guys…I know that things haven’t turned out the way we thought they would.  But at least we prevented Xylek from going on a rampage on the worlds…and even though we are on the brink of war…we can’t give up.  We need to see this through to the end.  And until then, we will not return to our homes.  We must stand our ground and push on, to finish what we started.  Only then can we go back.  But now, we must fight to protect all that we love and cherish.” Dawn said, putting her hand on her chest.  The Keyblade Wielders nodded and smiled, and so they carried Riku, and continued to walk forward, pushing on to the vast wilderness.  For now they were the only hope the worlds had left.

As they walked further and further away from the shrine, on the very top of the shrine’s tower, Emmxett and Jexana stood watching.  They had been witness to everything.  Ventus stood beside Jexana, lifeless and silent as the grave.  “It seems that by destroying Xylek, all our other allies have perished as well.  We are all that remains now.” Emmxett said.  Jexana simply smiled and turned around and walked away.  “Master Xylek’s plan has come to fruition.  Now we must see it through to the very end.” she said.  Emmxett nodded and turned around, following Jexana.  She opened a portal of darkness, and Emmxett was the first to go through it.  Jexana then looked at Ventus and smirked.  “Come with me, beloved.  We have business to attend to.” she said, and with that, she and Ventus went through the portal and as soon as they did, they vanished into it, and the portal of darkness closed behind them.

THE END

Well everyone, I know what your thinking.  This isn’t the happy ending you expected, am I right?  Well, let me explain.  The thing is, ever since I started the first Keyblade War story, I knew from the outset that I wanted to make a trilogy, and as you’ve probably noticed, I’ve made these stories with a dark, more mature tone, but also retaining some of the comedic and heartwarming touches that make Kingdom Hearts special.  Anyways, as I was preparing to write the final chapter, I knew that I had to leave a big event hanging in the air to leave you all hanging in your seats.  And I hope I was able to do just that.  For all of you that read this story, from the bottom of my heart, I thank you all for your support, patience and comments!  Thank you very much for reading this story, and I’ll be sure to write the final chapter of the Keyblade War saga!  But that is a tale for another time, for my next story will be a fanfiction about Roxas and Xion, which I’ll go into detail when I begin writing it.  Again, I thank you all so much for reading this story, for I had a great time writing it!  It was my great pleasure to treat you all to this story!  Let me know what you thought of this final chapter, and thanks again! :D

OH MY GOSH!!!! What did I just read?! It was so epic and sad at the same time!

P.S. Is there going to be an epilogue like you did with the first chapter?

Epilogue: The Calm Before The Storm

(Start Song Here)

Fearless Heroes, Wandering The Wilderness

It has been weeks since the Keyblade Wielders last battle, and even though they succeeded in destroying Xylek thanksk to the child of Kingdom Hearts, their victory was bittersweet.  Sacrifices had to be made, pains and hardships had to be endured, and now the Keyblade Wielders marched on, deciding to keep marching forward.  They will not return back to their home until they put a stop to the impending war that awaits.  They had made camp near an almost dried up river, and Dawn stood wide awake, by Riku’s side.  He had slowly recovered from his wounds, and even though he couldn’t move yet, he could at least speak.  “Everything okay?”  Riku said gently, trying not to startle Dawn.  She looked over to him and kissed his lips and smiled.  “Yes, everything is fine.  I’m just…worried.”  Riku smiled and touched her face.  “It’ll all be okay.” he said, and with that, he fell asleep in Dawn’s arms.  “I wonder…will everything be okay?” she asked, shifting her eyes towards the horizon of the vast wilderness, the other Keyblade Wielders lost in sleep.

The Rise To Action

The Order Of The X-Blade had successfully held off the Heartless army that had threatened to consume our heroes, and even though they had won the battle, it took a heavy toll on them.  Greatly weakened, Kosaku knew that he and his fellow comrades would not be able to do anything else in their current state.  And with that, they headed back towards their fortress, and so everyone got their well deserved rest.  Kosaku sat on his counsel seat, deep in though.  Milani, who had come inside, bowed down to him.  “Kosaku, I have a message.” she said.  Noticing the slight urgency in her voice, he stood up and then helped her up, looking into her eyes.  “What is it?” he asked.  She simply handed over the envelope and then excused herself out of the counsel room.  Kosaku then proceeded to opening the envelope and carefully eyeing the letter.  “So…that is how it is…” he said, as he slowly walked out of the counsel room.

Reminiscence Of Better Days

Weeks had passed, and Kyle still would not wake up.  The moogles always took turns taking care of him, and they always checked up on him every day.  He had stopped having nightmares now, for he had pushed away the faceless foe, at least for now.  In this moment of silence, he was thinking of Ventus and Trish.  He was thinking of how worried and caring they were whenever he would get sick.  He even remembered a time when he had gotten a frightening cold, and he had stayed sick in bed for two weeks.  Ventus and Trish stood by his side the whole time, giving him medicine, making him laugh, being there to offer comfort.  He missed them.  He missed their kisses and hugs. But he knew that he’d be able to wake up again, and when he would, he would be able to go finde Ventus and Trish, and they could be a family again.  But, now, all that surrounded him was deadly black silence.  He felt the faceless foe approach again.  “Bring it on.” he said, ready for whatever would happen next.

Countless Armies, Mobilizing

Now, the days grew ever more grim and dark.  The worlds had been saved by Xylek’s wrath and their destruction had halted, but there was no stopping the inevitable.  Now, the worlds would be a battlefield, one enormous battlefield to be host to a terrifying war.  Armies of Keyblade Warriors from distant and various universes were gathering, each ready to lay their lives on the line for their own reasons.  At Disney Castle, Queen Minnie stood at the Hall of the Cornerstone, and she sighed in distress and looked upwards towards the ceiling.  “Oh Mickey, I hope you all know what your doing…I feel a terrible darkness drawing near.” she said aloud, her voice echoing through the castle halls.  All the soldiers were ready to protect the queen, but she simply walked towards them and smiled sadly.  “It’s alright, brave soldiers.  Go to your familes.  They need you.  I can take care of myself.  Now go, for you don’t know when your moments with your family will be your last.” she said.  The soldiers bowed down and thanked her, and then they took their leave.  Queen Minnie was indeed ready, for whatever would come, she’d stand her ground.  That’s just the kind of queen she is.

The Possessed Heart And The Cruel Seductress

Far away, in what seemed to be a fortified airship fortress, Jexana stood outside on deck, gazing at the stars, with Ventus by her side.  “Ah yes.  It feels so good to have everything you’ve worked so hard for come true.  Isn’t that right Ventus my love?” she said seductively.  Ventus nodded slowly.  “Yes, Jexana.” he said, in a grim, lifeless voice.  She then glanced over to Trish, who was still unconscious.  “Hmph, it’s too bad you aren’t awake now.  I would love to see how jealous you get when I kiss your former husband.” she said, kissing Ventus in the lips, quite pleased with herself.  Suddenly, Emmxett came on deck, and waited for Jexana to finish up.  “My apologies for interrupting you Jexana.  I’ve received word from our scouts.” he said.  Jexana glanced over her shoulder at Emmxett and then turned around.  “And?” she asked.  Emmxett smirked.  “The war is in our control.” he said confidently.  At that, Jexana smirked widely and then touched Ventus’ face and kissed him again.  “Excellent.  Now then, let us proceed with the plan…we will strike there first.  That way the worlds will know true fear.” she said, as they walked into the airship fortress, with a gigantic, seemingly endless fleet of airships following behind them, heading towards Disney Castle…
