Hey there everybody, how's it going? You know, I love playing video games. It's one of my favorite hobbies, as video games provide an interesting form of storytelling and entertainment that is beyond words. And here I am, about to provide my own personal review of Naughty Dog's latest masterpiece: The Last Of Us. I know this game came out a few months back, but for those who haven't played it, here's a review to convince you to get the game.
Now then, The Last Of Us revolves around a man named Joel, who witnesses the outbreak of a fungal virus that spreads out towards the populace and turns them into zombie like creatures called infected. I won't tell you any more than that since the beginning itself is packed with so many feels, it would be inappropriate of me to spoil them here. X3 But long story short, Joel must escort a young girl named Ellie to a resistance group called The Fireflies, for she supposedly holds the cure for mankind. The story is emotionally gripping and filled with many thought provoking themes such as how far would you go to survive, how mankind could fall to such an epidemic, and the bonds of loyalty and friendship. Naughty Dog really knows how to pull at the heartstrings, and this game makes you laugh, cry, and shake your head in disbelief. So trust me when I say you'll be in for one hell of a ride with the story.
Okay, so when it comes to the gameplay, it's also pretty well designed, because the controls are very flexible, and you have the choice of engaging your enemy with stealth or in open combat. But you have to keep in mind that you have limited resources, and you need to gather materials to make weapons and loot dead bodies for ammo and search every room for anything you can find. The enemy types vary from opposing humans to the deadly Infected, and they are categorized in three groups: Clickers, Runners and Bloaters. All three of these types of Infected are nasty, and you need to come up with strategies to pinpoint exactly how you'll take them out, or at times, you can even choose to avoid combat altogether and save your own skin. The gunplay is also very responsive, and you have a variety of weapons to choose from. The gameplay certainly blends in well with the story, for there are times you barely notice when the gameplay transitions into cutscenes. Oh, and also, for the completionists out there, there's a treasure trove of collectibles you'll find scattered in the game world. It's pretty awesome.
In conclusion, this is a worthwhile game to play. It'll probably take about six hours or so to complete the campaign, depending if you just speed through the game or you take your time to collect everything. I haven't played the multiplayer yet, but I've heard it's pretty good. Oh, and on February 14th there'll be a DLC for this game called Left Behind, and it'll be a prequel story featuring Ellie, so for those who haven't played the game yet, you can wait until the DLC comes out so you can play the prequel and then the main game, or you can just go ahead and play the main game. In the end, it's all up to you, but I will say this: Don't miss out on this masterpiece of a game!
